Another busy day in the cricket world. Sky news 'copters buzzing around over the County ground here in Taunton trying to get images of the Pakistan team as they prepare for the one day series, and England drop KP lol

Maybe a touch of local bias, but it would be nice to see either James Hildreth or Peter Trego get a chance to play in the one dayers and T20s.

former essex member here great to see ravi back in the 1 day setup, although i reckon they have cocked up dropping kp, yes his confidence is shot to bits but international runs have got to be better than getting runs that crap div 2 county bowlers are going to throw up on an oval road???

K.P. is a prima donna who needs to get himself a county and learn to build an innings...raw talent is fine until the worlds' bowlers have had a good look and sussed you...he needs to learn to pick the ball to play, the one to leave, or the one to dead-bat..not every ball is there to be hit...he needs to learn the difference between having respect for your opponent and showing it....it's fine to let them think you're dismissing them..it's stupid to actually dismiss them...it gets you out cheaply

Just got home after watching a good day's cricket in Taunton, Somerset v Pakistan.
Somerset came close, but no cigar :sad: Trescothick did not play and a few younger players were given their chance and did well, bowling Pakistan out inside the 50 overs, but eventually going down by just 9 runs.
A good day out with plenty of banter from the crowd, security was a bit OTT though

A nail biting week for me, a Somerset County Cricket Club supporter. The club has a chance to win it's first ever County Championship and also play in the final of the CB40 at Lords on Saturday, having already finished as runners up in the T20 competition. Clearly the best side in the country this season, my fear is that we could end up empty handed at the end of it all :sad:
Hopefully Somerset can beat Durham at Chester Le Street in the next 2 days, then go on to Lords on a high and take that title too, thereby eclipsing the Botham/ Richards era team's achievements. Fingers and everything else are crossed right now lol

2 great cricket memories ... 1st, my Dad being mistaken for Richie Benaud in the 70's when the aussie touring team played Northants during a Thommo and Lillee autograph session ... 2nd, sitting on the mid wicket boundary rope with a mate during the Somerset v Northants gilette cup final , 1979 i think, and being one of those pescky kids who jumps and waves at the tv cameras when a mid wicket 4 was struck then seeing myself on tv highlights ..... happy days

With the Ashes now well under way I thought I'd re-open this thread for any comments or observations people may have on the cricket.
So far the funniest thing for me has been KP's 'tache lol

Fair enough he's growing it for charity "Movember" in support of prostate cancer, but is there really another motive? To get the Aussie bowlers to piss themselves with laughter as they come in to bowl :lol:

Big Cricket fan here, its why I am so tired today I cant live aussie and uk times, two days in and I am knackered lol

I still think we can win always the optimist. :lol:

Just got to hope that we can bat out time and get a draw in this first game or we could be looking at 5 v 0 whitewash again :sad:

Just got to hope that we can bat out time and get a draw in this first game or we could be looking at 5 v 0 whitewash again :sad:
Or get 509 for 1 :giggle:
Even after a lead of 200 I had faith that we could turn it around, I know we got a draw but totally enjoyed watching the come back.
I love to see mental stamina and cricket gives you that. wink

Yes it was excellent :lol: I listened to TMS on the radio, fell asleep at lunch safe in the knowledge that the game was safe.
To quote Michael Vaughan "The 5th day at the Gabba is fancy dress day, all the Aussies have come as plastic seats!"

But then again the Aussies had Big Merv and his rather fetching facial decoration. Now that was a 'tache!
PS been desperately trying to find an Aussie in work but they've all gone to ground since the rugby the other week. :lol:

England are in a great position to win the second test, I think the aussies came out on day one still in shock from the turn around of the first one.
It does seem however that both captains are out to win a record for the worst personal first innings for a captain in test cricket seems what one can do, the other can match. lol

What a fantastic 2nd day's play with Cook in the form of his life. Not sure what's going on in Strauss's mind though as his leave was a bit of a horror.
This has to be the innings that results in a win and onwards to retain the Ashes, really turning the mental screw on the aging Aussie side who it has to be said have a bowling attack worthy of a Sunday league thirds XI.

Shame about Broad as I think we will miss him with the new ball in the next test.
Kaznkev, I think Aussie cricket is on the precipice and about to go over it once the Ashes and the World Cup are finished. I can't see Ponting lasting beyond February and Katich's injury could be the end of him. Hussey is getting on too and just like they have had many attempts at rebuilding their bowling attack they will have to do the same with the top order.
I don't want to count the English chickens yet but see no reason why we can't carry on in this same rich vein and leave Oz with the urn in the proverbial bag leaving the crims to face the cricketing wilderness for several years.
