I agree Minx. When discussing issues you can tell that people's views are formulated reading only the popular tabloid newspapers. People are lazy and look to the short and quick answer to problems rather than to formulate their own thoughts after taking in all sides of the argument.
I admit to buying the Sun on occasions as the lazy and cheap option but take any "reporting" it has with a large pinch of salt. On numerous times it`s reporting has been proven to be totally in-accurate, the worst case being Hilsborough.
It's clear though that some people don't. Media is a powerful tool and mass popular media is the greatest tool of all. It's no surprise Tony Blair courted the Sun to win the last election ... it remains to be seen which party they will support at the next, but rest assured it will provide the party with a helping hand.

Thank you,
These are exactly the points I had in mind when starting this thread.
What concerns me is I believe in America the media brainwash the people. And I can see that happening here. Too many people rely on a paper to inform them of what is happening,
They don’t seem to understand that:
A that it is just a reporter and editors take on a situation.
B, the real facts can be edited out.
All media is just someone’s opinion, to keep an open mind is to gather a cross section of opinions and to come to a conclusion based on your own thoughts on what you have heard and read.

Sorry to disect your posts(s) Wunder but I found it easier to respond to the points that way smile

Steve,
Am more than fine with anyone either enjoying or not my views. Either in life or on this Forum.
Many thanks for your views, as at least you have explained them. It's not a question of me agreeing or another person trying to change anothers point of view.
It's about knowing where that person is coming from.
Hence the reason why I love the Froum & at times great threads like this. Shows the world that us Swingers are people & it's not ALL about Sex.
Well it should be....
Thanks, Steve.
From,
Wunderhorse.

So where do mine come from then?
I don't read any of the UK papers but have often been associated with reading the Daily Wail... dunno

Apologies GnV have never spoken to you. I was referring to people i've spoken to on a daily basis at work etc. Their views on politics, religion, race etc appear to match what is written in the tabloids.
It may be a case their views reflect what is written and not the other way round.

Seriously Suede-head, no offence was taken by me at your comment so no apology is required!
It just seemed a very good one to highlight a very valid general point.
There are many in the forum that do make wide-sweeping assumptions on people's political orientation - and often, in my view, based on their own reading rather than the poster's, if you see what I mean.

Suede I think that this thread was started with me in mind by Minxy.
I have been battered for weeks about my reading of the Sun and some quotes I have used from it. Minx may say this thread was not started with me in mind, in which case I will stand corrected.
Me and Minxy have goaded each other for ages over my reading material in private, for which obviously nobody was aware of. Of course by me reading the Sun I know that I will be ridiculed for which I dont mind, I thought it was all in good taste. After some of the heated debates of late I thought this was a very good lighthearted one.
I will stay out of this thread as obviously some have taken my comments out of context, for which I appologise as that was not my intention at all.

777 we have never agreed on anything but we have always been friends since I joined sh you and mrs have been my guardian angels along with a couple of other people here, and I always respect you both for that, you know I do. It is that side I believe that others don’t see of you.
I started this thread not with you in mind but can totally understand why you would think that, I always take the piss out of you and you of I.
But I truly believe in this country people are being brain washed by the media, this doesn’t just mean sun readers, it is anyone that only listens reads one form of media and takes what they say as gospel it is a scary thought if you really sit and think about it.
And I do think media is too powerful they have people in the grasp of their hands, to feed them what they want them to hear, this is not always the facts.
So no I don’t see this as a light hearted thread but I don’t mind in the slightest a bit of humour along the way too. The two can work side by side as long as my points raised can cause a good debate to, I wouldn’t like those to get lost along the way!
Hope this makes sense!

For once it does Minxy. lol
Thanks for the comments though. redface Dont want too many people seeing the softer side of me Minxy.
Personally I would not even wipe my arse with the tabloids. They do in my opinion, sway too many people becasue its always put in the simplest of terms and will always sit on one side of the fence and never give a balanced view and then let the reader make their own mind up.
I could be cruel and say they can't make their mind up because they are not intelligent enough.
Lets not forget though, they are a business, they are there to make money and profit. The giving of so called unbiased information is a by product, and they will print what ever they feel its readers want to see to increase circulation and profits.
Is it right to apportion all the blame to the tabloids? If we all know they are guilty of irresponsible and sometimes false reporting, why believe what they report? Surely we have to accept a portion of the blame for being apathetic and too lazy to seek out the truth.
With regards to the current financial crisis, I don’t think the tabloids have turned the situation into a raging inferno. Many people don’t realise just how serious the situation is and now near we are to financial meltdown. There has never been a situation remotely close to the current financial crisis in our lifetime (unless we have some very old swingers on the site biggrin ) and I think the media has a duty to report it, albeit responsibly.
At the end of the day, there are people who will believe anything they see in print and those with a more enquiring mind that will seek out a more balanced viewpoint.
I don't waste my money on papers any more!! I had to keep up to date with current affairs and what was happening locally because of my job - its so good not having to do it confused :?
I do occasionally see something on-line that perks my interest an have a quick read...not often tho!
There is an American TV series called The Wire. Over five series it has chronicled various aspects of life in Baltimore. It is a fictional 'cop show' written by an ex Baltimore police officer and an ex journalist, also from Baltimore.
Each series has taken one aspect of society, starting with gangs, then decaying industry (ports), local government, education and in the last series, the media, more specifically, the print media.
On the bonus features disk the is a mini-documentary about the role of the press in modern day Baltimore. This documentary is, like the series as a whole, fascinating, heartbreaking and really quite terrifying. It holds up to the microscope how Baltimore, and I think in turn, any major western city, is slowly disintegrating through drugs, poverty and ambivalence. I think, in short, it says "you reap what you sow".
I believe this can also be said of our press and other media. Newspapers aren't the bastions they once were. We now have a media we have asked for, thus deserve.
The original question (I know, I kinda lost sight of it there...) was "Are tabloids responsible?" There are two meanings of responsible: If you are talking about are they "to blame"? Then they only tell us 'news' which we want to read about, so in my opinion, they are not wholly responsible.
If by responsible you mean 'dilligent in a duty of care', then gosh no! They could write about the facts only, but that wont sell, will it?
And I'm spent....
So, in short: Watch The Wire, and we've got the media we deserve. redface
