I'm back with an even more opinionated view on this topic than I had this morning wink (stop laughing, Kat!)
Information on swinging, if you are a newbie (and even if you're not such a newbie), is useful. The most useful information on the subject most probably comes from people who've been there and done it - plenty such people can be found on this forum, among other places, and why Swinging Heaven includes an advice section. More and more people are logging on to SH asking for advice and the like - usually there is someone around here who can answer those queries, and hopefully those answers are productive.
Swinging is not quite the seedy topic that it used to be (although the press still like to play up the seedy side, of course), and as more and more genuine academics are seeking to research alternative sexualities and lifestyles (such as swinging) in objective ways. Such researchers are often funded or employed by universities or other institutions to conduct their research. Research findings are normally published in academic journals that are rarely read by a general readership. If you did a web search for academic references on swinging you would find some, though not a great deal, of research on the topic. Some academic research findings are written up for a more general readership in the form of books. There are several books in print that discuss swinging or aspects of this type of lifestyle. These books are based on research that has been conducted under the scrutinisation of ethics committees who are responsible for the welfare of the people who take part in the research, really to make sure that no-one is being exploited or harmed.
Of course, any Tom, Dick or Harriot could come along and decide to do some research and write a book. Almost certainly they would fail in their endeavour, as they do not have the backing of an institution or the experience to deal with publishing their work (publishing ANYTHING, let alone a book is very hard work!).
As some of you know, I work in this area. I URGE anyone new to this NOT to take part in ANY form of research without first checking the qualifications of the researcher and their institution, and the ethical matters involved in the research. If you agree to speak to someone who is not a genuine researcher, you will have no control over what happens to the material you give them, and you will most probably simply be the unwitting object of someone's fantasies. Either that, or you will find yourself plastered all over next week's News of the World redface .
I may have an ego, but I know what I'm talking about on this. If Geronimo proves to me that he/she is a genuine researcher I will publicly apologise for being a doubting Thomas. Genuine research is fine, useful, and pays my bills. Attempting to gain in any way by pretending to be a researcher is NOT fine, and is not useful. I don't honestly think that anyone on this forum will fall for the cheap tricks that some people try to pull, but you never know.
OK, that's it, you can all wake up now
and if Blue knows anything about the book world then he/she will know
I'll will say it for you Blue:
P.S. I am female.
Anyway now I'll get off the soap box. I'm going to leave this forum as it's proven useless for research purposes (there are other avenues)
That is why we call it "The Cafe" and not "The National Centre for Swinging Research".
Right, time to lock up.
