Nobody is forced to enter a debate, it is of a persons choosing if they do but.....why moan about a topic? We all have the freedom to enter a debate or not, but I would not enter one if it did not interest me.

I think therein lies the problem.....
if a topic exists, then there is nothing preventing people posting.... and nothing (save for the AUP)preventing them from putting what they want.... even if it is a moan about the topic.
I start very few threads these days... so this doesnt really affect me.... but to be honest as i see it, this is a variation on the post and be damned approach...or dare i say it, censorship.
again, i see it not so much as what is put... but the fact that someone dare say it.

it is not even of having a friendly forum as such (I am not one for the amount of fluff on the forums)
It is more a case of reasonable discussions not turning into the mud slinging, or belittling of people's opinions
I might not agree with peoples opinions on certain subjects, but if I don't then which is more likely to further a conversation... explaining why you don't agree or pulling apart a post line by line????
I know which is more likely to cause things to go south in a hurry......
not so much a case of "post and be dammed"... more a case of "think before you post" for every action, there is going to be a reaction, and I'd rather that people reacted in a positive way, even if to criticise than to go negative!
I think that made sense... it did in my head anyway...

I have to say that imho some opinions deserve if not cry out to be belittled and shredded.
For every valid opinion put forward, there will be those stated that are rooted in prejudice or ignorance for example.
For those types of 'opinions' to go unchallenged because to do so would cause the person challenging them to be labelled or thought of as a bully is ridiculous in the extreme.
I'm still trying to work out why pulling a post apart line by line is a bad thing? If there are numerous points raised in a post, surely it is sensible to answer each point individually? I agree pulling people up on spelling or grammar is ridiculous, but seriously how often does that happen on here?
It's a double edged sword, people should be able to post what they want (within the AUP) Conversley people should have the opportunity to challenge a post made in the way they see fit (within the AUP, which should be the first and final judge of what is suitable in the forum)
Those replies seen as being outside the AUP by those responsible for applying it should bring sanctions, those that are not should stand and be judged on their own merits.
When here the first time i got to the point i could post anything even very personal stuff and often diddue to the fact i knew i'd get a lot of help and support on things. But now i mostly have sat and watched even when i wasnt a paid member i still read the forums.
I certainly isn`t the place it once was for me, that goes for the forum and the chat. Some of that is because i don't play anymore but mostly i it is because it just don't seem to be the same fun place anymore.
There was allways dissagreements yes but the amount of abuse i have seen latly is shocking.
I miss the old place but when my membership expires i dont think i will miss it so much this time just some of the people in it.
