We couldnt agree more by the way bout his acccent .
Silky had the audio book , and gave it away immediately becuase it spoiled the images of him .
Youve had us both giggling here by actually NOT knowing what a counterpane is LOLOL.
Here are instructions for being a pigeon:
1. Walk around aimlessly for a while, pecking at cigarette butts and other inappropriate items.
2. Take fright at someone walking along the platform and fly off to a girder.
3. Have a shit.
4. Repeat.
*giggle*
Remember the woman on horseback, who he smiled at? She gave him a `beneath me` look, so he shot her?!
In his head people, in his head! rolleyes

reading is (excluding sex) my biggest hobby and for this reason i am the owner of hundreds and hundrds of books.
it is therefor not my fault when books get forgotton about! rolleyes lol ok.. i admit it.. i have a set of 7 hardback bill bryson books that were bought for me as a gift(4 used.. but 3 brandnew as he couldnt find used copies confused ).. and i had forgot that i had them and left them somewhere on myconstantly increasing "still to read" pile.
i now feel like i have comited a sin, so as soon as i have read the book i am half way through.. and one more that follows directly on.. i shall start reading my brysons.
the ones i have are:
notes from a big country, down under, the lost continent, niether here nor there, short history of nearly everything, walk in the woods, notes from a small island.
does anyone have any tips of a particular order i should read them in? i was under the impression they were all stand alone books.. but any advice will be taken.
a humbled WBB

Try 'A Walk in the Woods'...both us and Venus recommend it strongly! LOL
Our fav quote from the book...and to make Venus laugh...
"I turned to my own bunk and examined it with a kind of appalled fascination. If the mattress stains were anything to go by, a previous user had not so much suffered from incontinence as rejoiced in it. He had obviously included the pillow in his celebrations."

Not sure about the etiquette of hi-jacking yet but if you enjoy the brilliant Bill Bryson, can I make the recommendation of Garrison Keillor, particularly Leaving Home and The Book of Guys.
I'm not his agent, just a fan.
Sorry, please continue, I'll go back to the corner now

GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN!!
Keillor is boring. He has no idea about taking a breath. I think you'll find you are mentally ill. Please let me know, as so am I and I can possibly help you.
Striding boldly from the corner
What do you mean boring? Leaving Home was one of the funniest books I've ever read, what was wrong with it? I admit that Lake Wobegon Days was a bit tedious but apart from that, I've enjoyed most of them. Perhaps I'm old before my time, I'll get my slipers.

ok peeps.. i am sold! biggrin
i finished the book i was reading this morning, so rather than move onto next one in my pile i decided to have a skim through the bryson books.
i chose the small island one.. mainly as it is the smallest (only about 300 pages) and so knew that if he was not entirely my cup of tea - wouldnt be sutch a hard task.
well.... i spent the last 3 and a half hours reading it.. and now only have about 30 pages left! was brilliant!
i am sold on him.... the part that made me laugh the most was when he was in dorset i think.. and he had been locked out of his hotel at nine pm. he had a really bad go at the proprieter.. totally spat his dummy out and stormed off........... only to have to return as he had forgoton his room number! it cracked me up.
i have laughed loads this afternoon.. can hardly wait to read the rest!
at least it solves my problem of what reading material to take for the trip to surrey this weekend.......hope tonguey dont mind me reading aloud to him! confused
We have a convert! I remember the tantrum.......and the apology!
lol
