Well ive just tried all the sites n OMg nowhere near what bra size I buy(thats when I wear em!!) i was measured in Kendals a few years back, was wearing a 38B n measured a 42F FFS no way!! but when it got down to trying loads of bras on a 36DD was the best fit, all the sizes on the links here had me at 40D,or there abouts,so well confused as a 36 DD still fits me well confused xxj
I'd tried loads of these bra measuring guides and ended up with a drawer full of bras that didn't fit me! When I used the guides they were telling me I was a 46c or d .... now I know I'm big but I was gutted at the 46 bit. And at that size I had to buy them mail order (hence the drawer full of bras that didn't fit).
I went to Sadie the Bra Lady in Sunderland a few months back and they're fantastic - they can tell just by looking at you what size you are ... turns out I was a 40f ... still pretty big but with the right fitting bra I felt 20 years younger! And they're really sexy bras (Do I sound like an advert?)
It's a shame I've got to take it off really, I quite like them under my chin rather than round my knees.

If the resulting band size is an odd number like 33", you can usually go to the next even band size (34"), but you may also want to try the next lower band size (32").
I was a 33 band size but doesn't say to add 5, with it being an odd number biggrin (unlike the BBC site).
Theres no way I can get into a 32 sized bra but Im very happy it telling me Im a 34. So I measure 33 band size and 40 boob size (40 minus 34 = 6) which makes me a 34E......How I'd wish i was that size though lol
if the difference is:
less than 1 inch = AA cup
1 inch = A cup
2 inches = B cup
3 inches = C cup
4 inches = D cup
5 inches = DD cup

Miss C
I'm similar to you a dress size 10. I measure 32/33" around my back and 37" across the boobs therefore that makes me a 32 or 34D/E which I am most definitely not. I am a sadly dimished B cup these days  . I've always understood that the measurement around the underbust is your actual bra size then the cup measurement is the increase in inches as above.

Still reckon my method of measurement is best :rascal:

I think the only thing you can do is try a few different sizes on and see which one fits best. The band is supposed to be straight, ie parallel to the floor, not lifted at the back, the straps should have no more than an inch give in the and the bit in the cleavage should fit against your rib cage. A lot depends on the manufacturer, you can try 10 different bras on, all the same size, theoretically and only one will fit properly. I think they use the same amount of leaway as they do in dress sizes which differ enormously from shop to shop.

 this is the only way I have ever found a bra to fit!
Take a look at this.....

a downloadable "bra book"
Once upon a time I was a 34 a...... what happened and why when I lose weight do I look like jessica Rabbit!
Ok, at the mo I wear a 34/36 D
If I go by that measurement, and measure around my chest I come up with 34- perfect- but why the hell do you have to add on 4 inches to that measurement?
38?!?!?!?!
It makes my bra size a 38 E!!!!!!! There is no way!
I'm going to find another site!.......

I use different sizes depending on the cup shape.
For a full cover (for under T-shirts) I go for a larger cup size. For a half-cup with a bit of a plunge I go for one cup size less and for a balcony bra that is going with no top on (in a club for instance) I can get away with another cup size down (at a pinch).
The best point I heard about buying bras was to get one that is on the tightest hooks when you get it - it will always go slacker - never tighter - with wear and washing. (EDIT : I was laid in bed last noght and realised I had got this the wrong way round - go for the bra that fastens on the outer hooks but is tight on the middle/smallest - yes I lay in bed thinking about SH biggrin)
What I hate is the fact that shops that also offer basques etc - the basques stop at C even when the bras go to E.
Asda have a few larger options - they don't last as long but they are cheap enough to replace anyway and quite pretty.
Just looked at your pics. There is no way you are a 40! You are very slim - 32 or 34 at most. There was a lady from Rigby and Peller on telly the other day and she could tell a lady's bra size by just looking at her.
Mrs Cream i would go into a shop and get measured and try bras on. No way are u a 40 across ur back. U are miles smaller than me.
I was measured a few weeks ago at Sadies as a 40FF. Last mon night i went to the Metro Centre to buy a new bra to find the shop doesnt do FFs so i had to get remeasured again taking me up to a 40G.
I spend another hour with the assistant trying to find a bra that fitted correctly. Push up, padded, tshirt, u name i tried it. They were to big on the cups, too small, too tight, too loose and they were all the same size.
I dont think u can ever get a true size untill u try bras on and find 1 that suits u and feels comfortable. Dont go buy a chart.
Try before u buy!
think it depends where you shop to be honest, i have bras from a 36C to a 36E that all fit and i'm usually measured at the shop before i buy a bra so one shop gives you ones size and another gives you another but i always seem to be a 36 and im a size 12 so i also cant see how someone whos a size 10 can be a 40 back size blink if the person measuring you knew anything at all about bras sizes surly they'd just know that was wrong, and also i have been on depo for 2 years and my boobs aint grown lol
