Its not like me to actually start a thread - am more a thread hijacker - but something has come to my attention recently... At the last few munches i have been to, there have been a certain number of people taking cameras and going round the munch taking photographs randomly at various stages during the evening...
Now, in my eyes, this raises a few points...........
- is there any control over what photos are taken?
- what happens if u are accidently caught in one of the photos even tho the photo is not being taken of u?
- should cameras be allowed in munches at all
- should there be just one offical munch photographer, approved by the organiser who can then ensure no photos are sent to places/sites unauthorised?
I personally dont mind having my photo taken, but i know many a single/cpl who would object quite vehimently to random photos being taken of them...the implications of these photos getting into unauthorised hands is in my opinion quite serious and potentially job/career/family life threatening.....for some people..
I would imagine there are rules within the Munch organisers bible about cameras...correct me if i am wrong..if not, then there should be.....
Am i alone in thinking this? or does anyone else have the same concerns as me...this may be a subject that has been covered in here before however, my recent experience of munches is that the use of cameras within a munch is becoming more frequent again...and i do have genuine concerns about it but dont want to be a party pooper cos having pics of fun times out socially is good.
btw..we are not talking camera phones here... but proper SLR cameras and digital cameras....

A lot of good points.
I have not been to a munch yet but I do not think I would be keen on pic turning up where my work mates could see them.
Hmmm... had my photo taken at my last social.
But if everyone there has been verified is there realy a problem?
Whatsmore you can always say no!
If I had any resevation the first person I would talk too will be the munch/social hosts.
"if asked, i'd more than likely say No anyway"
Darkfire you assume u would be asked!!! big wrong assumption!!!!
"you can always say no"
redpantherman..as Darkfire explained, it is easy to catch people on camera when they are not part of the photograph being taken..also if someone is taking general views of a munch...
Darkfire
Can of worms - hope not..hope that a reasonale debate will follow with the mods/siteowners confirming what should be the correct course of action when they have listened to peoples views...

no assumptions RWL, I did say that I am very concious of 'background faces' when people take pics , and I did say that I have been snapped without permission as random pics were being taken - but, in this particular case, I didnt take issue because i know who was taking them and i'm pretty damn confident they wont end up somewhere they shouldnt.
but, like i also said, it would be a whole different ball game if I didnt know the person taking pics. (in edit - or if I wasnt asked first)
You could take my pic so long as you have replacement lenses for your camera ! :scared:
You'll need a tripod and a fast film!

I, too, have a monopod, best used with a spotting scope rather than a camera...

I go bird watching, ok!!!
Oh, and sheddy, there's always room for you

i would suggest that its irelevent what is actuallygoing on at munch....
the mere fact that there are 50/75/100/150, or how ever many there are, "swingers" in one location is sufficient for the use of "innocent" photos to be misconstrued....
what has the truth got to do with things?

Its already evident - and not surprising - that there are two diverse views on this subject...those that dont mind..and those that object....
I would be interested in the views of
(a) the site admin staff (as any negative publicity reflects on them and their company)
(b) any other mods (cos they have prob come across this before due to their experince)
(c) previous munch organisers (as this issue will prob come up at their next munch)
and of course anyone else who has anything sensible and thought provoking !!!
