Cameras at Munches

Its not like me to actually start a thread - am more a thread hijacker - but something has come to my attention recently... At the last few munches i have been to, there have been a certain number of people taking cameras and going round the munch taking photographs randomly at various stages during the evening...
Now, in my eyes, this raises a few points...........
- is there any control over what photos are taken?
- what happens if u are accidently caught in one of the photos even tho the photo is not being taken of u?
- should cameras be allowed in munches at all
- should there be just one offical munch photographer, approved by the organiser who can then ensure no photos are sent to places/sites unauthorised?
I personally dont mind having my photo taken, but i know many a single/cpl who would object quite vehimently to random photos being taken of them...the implications of these photos getting into unauthorised hands is in my opinion quite serious and potentially job/career/family life threatening.....for some people..
I would imagine there are rules within the Munch organisers bible about cameras...correct me if i am wrong..if not, then there should be.....
Am i alone in thinking this? or does anyone else have the same concerns as me...this may be a subject that has been covered in here before however, my recent experience of munches is that the use of cameras within a munch is becoming more frequent again...and i do have genuine concerns about it but dont want to be a party pooper cos having pics of fun times out socially is good.
btw..we are not talking camera phones here... but proper SLR cameras and digital cameras....

A lot of good points.
I have not been to a munch yet but I do not think I would be keen on pic turning up where my work mates could see them.
Hmmm... had my photo taken at my last social.
But if everyone there has been verified is there realy a problem?
Whatsmore you can always say no!
If I had any resevation the first person I would talk too will be the munch/social hosts.
I've always been against pictures being taken at munches in principal.....
but
there's always exeptions to the rule.
I took my camera to NN's birthday social on saturday because I wanted to get some pics of the occasion for her (birthday) and Marcuso (cos he's a poser lol )
I didnt take other pics bar one with permission and that person has already recieved the pic from me. (but even in that one, there are people visible in the background - and its that which I am very concious of)
I was approached at another munch by someone and asked permission, which I gave, but i was also 'snapped' by at least two ther people who didnt ask permission - but i'm generally ok with it as they're well known & 'trusted' here and i know for a fact that in the past they blank people's faces off pics as a rule anyway so i didnt take issue with it...... but nor did I specifically 'pose' for them either.
With regard to everyone being 'vouched for' who's at a munch anyway - that's not strictly the case at every munch, and I'm afriad I would have issues if I saw someone 'unknown' to me taking pics, and if asked, i'd more than likely say No anyway.
But while I did take pics on Saturday, I would much favour the idea of having an 'official photographer' - one person who everyone knows is the one with a camera so to speak - and no other cameras allowed, if we have to have one at all.
Before we go down the 'official photographer' route
I know for a fact there will be those unofficial moments that just pop up from time to time redface
I would rather the 'No photos taken without express permision' line
Just make all & sundry aware of this & make it clear ANY violation will not be tolerated!
But on second thoughts an 'official photographer' with a munch/social photo gallery on SH might be an idea to consider lol
A golden nugget or two should take care of any extra expense.
I can feel a big'ol can o worms about to open...... lol
"if asked, i'd more than likely say No anyway"
Darkfire you assume u would be asked!!! big wrong assumption!!!!
"you can always say no"
redpantherman..as Darkfire explained, it is easy to catch people on camera when they are not part of the photograph being taken..also if someone is taking general views of a munch...
Darkfire
Can of worms - hope not..hope that a reasonale debate will follow with the mods/siteowners confirming what should be the correct course of action when they have listened to peoples views...
RWL
no assumptions RWL, I did say that I am very concious of 'background faces' when people take pics , and I did say that I have been snapped without permission as random pics were being taken - but, in this particular case, I didnt take issue because i know who was taking them and i'm pretty damn confident they wont end up somewhere they shouldnt.
but, like i also said, it would be a whole different ball game if I didnt know the person taking pics. (in edit - or if I wasnt asked first)

You could take my pic so long as you have replacement lenses for your camera ! :scared:

I can't see the difference between digital cams and mobile phones, Tony has a great 2meg cam on his phone and he can take pictures in pitch black because it has a good flash so if 1 type of camera is going to be banned then they all would have to be surly ?
i think the taking of pictures are ok as long as full permission is asked first from the subject and all other people are asked to step aside smile
I know were not to bothered about our pictures getting out but other people could loose lots by there personal life and pics getting out on the net so we should all respect that and take precautions to protect each other from this type of outcome.
Anyway, i would of thought a sensible swinger would already know this and respect the other peoples privacy by taking the relevant precautions to protect others wouldn't they ?

Just a couple of points, really.
If I am at a private party which has sexual acts taken place and people were in various states of undress, then I would be concerned if someone I didn't know was taking pics, because there is no control over where they end up. However, if I knew the person(s), then I wouldn't have a problem with them taking pics, as quite a few people would already know!
But Munches are just social events. there is nothing going on sexually. Everyone is dressed normally, with only a few being more adventuroous than others. If a pic is taken and you are in the background, so what? No different to anyone in a normal pub taking a pic and catching you in the background. How could anyone tell that the pic was or wasn't taken at a munch or a normal pub?
Intimate pics are a different kettle of fish - THEY are the sort of pics you should be concerned with ending up in the wrong hands, NOT the ones taken at a Munch. With an 'official' photographer, it takes away the spontenaity of a pic and become more 'staged'. It also adds to the cost involved, the administration of the photographer getting permission for the pics and their distribution.
Just my thoughts! lol

Surely we have to at least acknowledge people's concerns about privacy and discretion regarding their "lifestyle" ???
I think one of RWL's more valid points is about "malicious use" of pics.
I don't like doing this, but this is what I said over the road ...........
Quote by dambuster

yes we know that 99% of us follow and abide by the site/munch rules...its the 1% that dont that cause the concern......

Well, that's the problem.
And also why I think things should be left as they are, with "timely reminders" like yours posted every now and again.
You can't make rules and guidelines for the 1%
It's sort of why I don't think capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent against heinous crimes.
Those that would commit such, have little or no regard for the consequences.
It really is a very hard question to answer, and I doubt a full agreement would ever be reached to the satisfaction of all.
Personally, I hate to see things over "legislated" and would be against a total ban, but obviously can see and agree with people's concerns.
At the very bottom line, I think it's one of those risks somebody mentioned above, but needs everyone to show a great deal of common sense and remember the safety/discretion bywords of swinging.
Just mythoughts wink
Oh - and in edit ..........
I totally agree with the rest of your post Mal

Only if there is room for me aswell  I can bring my mono pod  and yes I have got one every one else buys a tripod oooooooohhhhh nnnnnooooo not sheddy he buys
a mono pod  it's a right pain standing it in a milk bottle at the end of the bed or in other photographic opertuninties sad
Have I missed something here?? As far as I know nothing too raunchy happens at a munch as such anyway.... surely not alot of difference to being in the background when in a normal bar or on holiday even!! I don't mind as such.....
Now if there was a huge gangbang going on and it was all hot and steamy with all getting naked etc.... I still wouldn't notice lol!!! lol
I assume whoever takes would have some discretion anyway!
Mike xx wink
I, too, have a monopod, best used with a spotting scope rather than a camera...
what?
I go bird watching, ok!!!
Oh, and sheddy, there's always room for you

i would suggest that its irelevent what is actuallygoing on at munch....
the mere fact that there are 50/75/100/150, or how ever many there are, "swingers" in one location is sufficient for the use of "innocent" photos to be misconstrued....
what has the truth got to do with things?
RWL
If i remember rightly... this subject came up around 6months ago.... And on one of the threads arranging a munch it was said that Camera's wasn't allowed...
If i can find the thread I will...... confused

I haven't got a clue where to start confused
It was on 1 of the Munch thread that i have been to... and ive only been to...
Essex.... arranged by chardonnay(i think)
Leicester.... Steph
Wigan.... NaughtyWiganCpl
Yorks... by pebbles and Demon
So it's on 1 of them!!!
Sorry.... I know that prolly doesn't help.... but im trying
I can see the concern about the issue myself in all honesty, whilst people at a munch are only there socially they are still there because of one common interest and whilst attendee's are verified before they attend circumstances change people flounce or leave the site or worse still may just decide they wish to out someone (for want of a better phrase) I know most people don't put a face pic on public view on there profile for obvious reasons. So for the same reasons they wouldn't want someone they may not know taking a picture of them or even catching them in the background of a picture they take of someone else after all it may only be a social enviroment but are we not all wearing badges with our user names on that can easily be linked to site's by a quick google search, one of the reasons I dropped my old user name as it showed up as 2 pages of my posts when googeld
Sheddy is much more comon so it doesn't link to this site so easily biggrin
Your right........ just searched and nothing!! Have you got a navman Sat Nav though Sheddy??
Just wondered lol!!

which would be the problem with MuncH galleries (I know we;ve had them before, and stopped too, because of the trouble the organiser/ photographer has to go to to obtain permission/ blank out faces/ identifiable marks like tattoos etc and because the copy and save button does exactly what it says on the tin)
i dont think its necessarily just about being photographed in 'compromising situations' - even an innocent face pic taken at a munch then put on 'display' is a compromising situation for anyone not particularly ready 'outed' by someone who they might know who stumbles on it.

I for one could be struck off and lose my career for "bringing the profession into disrepute" if I was found out to a member of a swinging site
I have to sign a declaration that I'm a "fit and proper person", which basically means I have to live up to someone elses moral standards, which don't include swinging or pornography or anything similar.

Its already evident - and not surprising - that there are two diverse views on this subject...those that dont mind..and those that object....
I would be interested in the views of
(a) the site admin staff (as any negative publicity reflects on them and their company)
(b) any other mods (cos they have prob come across this before due to their experince)
(c) previous munch organisers (as this issue will prob come up at their next munch)
and of course anyone else who has anything sensible and thought provoking !!!
