I'm going to be awkward (no surprise there! lol ) and nominate two original versions that I prefer to the better known covers.
They are Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?' which were subsequently recorded by Sinead O'Connor and Alicia Keys respectively.
I much prefer the versions by Prince who wrote both tracks, although I do think Alicia Keys made a decent job of 'How Come..'
