Just another quick note, there are a lot of ADs out there and they all have their benifits and problems. If anyone's taking a med that's causing them problems or you feel like it's not helping please, please tell your GP. Not all drugs are right for everyone, it's a matter of finding one that works well for you.
you have a pm lou

i suffer from depression on and off. i tried tablets once but didnt think they helped enough to warrent continuing the course. i keep picking myself up and getting a job, things are good for a month or so then i lose the will to carry it on. i think if you accept the reality of being depressed its easier to hang in for good times in the future.
well this thread has made me realise just how good my life is.
thanks, and i hope everyone finds their way back to a happy place kiss
depression is an awfull illness
tablets can help but mostly its a self healing process sometimes it takes weeks sometimes years
depends how bad you have it
mind over matter mmmmmmm when the mind is tired life dont matter ............
best thing is get the doctors and get help ..........and .dont suffer in silence
big hugs to everyone feeling down
:therethere:
Having been to the dark side and almost over the edge. I found the best way to deal with depression is to go with it. Don't force yourself to try to be happy. Just be depressed. I listen to depressing music. Read depressing books and watched depressing films. I even dressed in black. At the end of it I found you could only be depressed so far and in each individual is a strong centered being and you find that and you start to rebuild.
Peace and love

i think you'll find is someone is depressed as apposed to just feeling a bit down going out is the last thing they want to do, many shut themselves away for weeks even months cause they cannot face the world
Anyone who says that they can pull themselves out of depression has probably not been clinically depressed. I've been very "down" and I've also seen depression at first hand. They are very different things. The people who describe the bottomless black hole with no way out understand its true nature.
Drugs do work. As has been said earlier the type and dosage of drug seems to be trial and error by the doctors once depression is diagnosed, but once you find the right one your mood will begin to lift. It can be a long process and needs understanding and support from those around you.

i totally agree with you i have been very low in the past, feeling like life isn't worth living and if i topped myself no1 would care anyway, looking back it was a very daft attitude to have but at the time u just don't care, i was put on a few different types of medication till i found one that worked but i felt great again once i did the mistake i made was once i felt ok again i stopped taking the medication which i would not recomed cause within about 5 days i was worse then ever and ended up on the medication for even longer, lots of people think u are just feeling sorry for yourself and i suppose it does look that way but believe me all u want is to be left alone not have people running about after u feeling sorry for u, i am okish now tho some days i do find myself crying for no reason really but i think i will always have that but as a whole life is good at the moment biggrin
I dont know if this helps but imagine a photo of you with arrows going in to you that is a depressive person now imagine a photo of you with arrows going out that is a happy person , i know its not as simple as that , but try to make people laugh , give away the energy and love you have as person share it with others and you will be amazed how the reflected kindness of others will come back to you and make you feel better

No it is not as simple as that and trying to smile yourself is difficult, never mind trying to smile at others.
However, trying to get positive thoughts for the future is a little easier to generate.
You can tell it's PMT time again
This morning I was on the "Non-whinging happy thread" saying how great life was, this aftermnoon I have just had to leave Sainsbury's because I burst into tears in there (they don't like that - it kind of unnerved them) and now I'm back on the Depression thread. :upset:
A thread for every occasion and emotion it seems
Ah well, things could be worse

Maybe they thought you were crying at the prices... That they don't like.
Or maybe you were crying at the prices. The price of petrol makes me cry everytime I see the damn fuel gauge get close to zero.

I agree - it also needs to be mentioned that the drugs allow someone's mood to lift but do not in themselves cure the causes. What they do is allow someone to function normally enough to be able to go out and change their lifestyle or get the appropriate personal help to find out whatever is causing the depression, whether by, for example, counselling or other advice, or finding a new interest of some sort.
Mike.

This isn't a bad site
The condition of depression is a change of chemical balance in the brain. What triggers it is still open to dispute.
My personal opinion is that its a mixture of environmental influences (stress, life problems etc) and an individuals biological make-up. Some people just seem prone to depression and once it starts it's a never-ending vicious circle.
Antidepressents usually affect the chemical balance in the brain and help the sufferer handle the day-to-day things in a better way or stabalise their moods. It's not really a cure, it's more like a sticking plaster until the sufferer can determine what's triggered them or has dealt with the problems in their lives.
Just my take anyway. I'm sure someone else has more information etc.
I do honestly believe that it is a physical problem, whether it's the environment or the chemical inbalance that causes the problem is probably different from sufferer to sufferer.

Bang on Easy, or should I call you James Bond as you are his look alike, some poor souls are inclined to depression, which they are born with, but at the end of the day it is still down to the individual.
