Too many people take it personally when there is debate in forums, and it then turns into an argument
Quote by jaymar
I love a debate, I love 'meaty' threads that get me thinking and I love my brain to be challenged.
Me too!
What I hate is moaners and yes that includes newbies who come in and moan moan moan.
 oooo I don't moan that much surely! biggrin
Minx, you've started a few new threads over the past week or so and from what I can see they've been greatly received. You will get people agreeing with you or disagreeing. I think any author (new or old)of a thread which has challening views should expect some come back, you can't expect everyone to agree with you all the time.
I have been pleased with the way the threads have run! And all the comments made, if eveyone agreed with me I would  what would be the point?
So, in short if this thread is about the responses to the thread you started on woman working then really.
Old saying, if you can't stand the heat.......
wink

 I like to turn the heat up! Just dont like getting my fingers burnt! surpriseduch: :D

Are you talking about me, I think this is a personal dig at me! Now if its an argument you want, you have come to the right person! Come on, bring it on lol
Ok, maybe not, but you do make a very good point. People often post their feelings on the subject being discussed and it is very easy to take it personally. Being able to get a point across without offending anyone, is an art form and it is so easy for posters (new and old) to say something on here which can be completely taken out of perspective.
Debate is good but doing it well is not as easy as some people think. Written word is so easily misunderstood when compared to face to face conversation where body language and tone of voice help to put things into perspective wink

I like a debate as much as the next person, in fact I like to be metally stimulated as much as possible...
I haven't answered many of your questions because I am very very weary of newbies who ask a ton of questions first, it screams "journalist" at me......rightly or wrongly, but it does make me feel very very defensive....

:giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
I can understand totally where you are coming from, but ask anyone in the kent room who minx is they all know me in there. I am often on cam! But talking in cyber can make us all feel a little cynical!
I am also here as most are to meet and have hump 69position But that is my private side!
Coming in the forums causing discussion is a bit on the side! :giggle:
I`m often in the Kent room and I`ve never heard of ya !!
lol

Me neither! Who is this minx bird?

Yes agree with everyonem, debate is good........... your entitled to my opinions :evil2:
I love a debate - but I HATE a pointless argument.
For instance, we can have anecdotes and opinions on the upbringing of kids. But if I say "I believe smacking is ok" and someone else says "I believe no-one should be smacked". Each will not change the opinion of the other. So there is no point pursuing the conversation. The only point in an argument is to make the other person agree with you.
If I can make them change their mind then their opinion wasn't meaningful, and if I can't why waste my typing. Either way, the argument is a waste of effort.
As Martin Luther King once said
"U may be a moron,as thick as a scabby horse sandwich, with opinions formed from your extensive reading of matchboxes, but I will defend unto to death your right to express opinions that I will probably choose to ignore"
If it wasnt him it was Reg Barnaby proprietor of the Brickmakers Legs in Catford.
Coincidence really, King was assasinated for his views Reg choked on a pickled egg, it just goes to show.
