I felt I needed to post this after reading the thread “Have we gone soft in here?”
I am a new forum user
I have posted comments and mine don’t always get responses, but I take a smug approach and feel I have won that debate!
I have posted threads where comments have been made “done that before” so what! There are newbies here that haven’t and we would like to raise the thread again, not look back last year and try to find the old thread.
Instead of commenting done that wouldn’t it be nice to paste and copy your orginal response so the newbies could respond?
Isn’t that how you interact with us rather than cutting us short?
As for the oldies all good things come to an end unless you take on new ideas and interact with new people it would become boring, and might be time to put your slippers on and your feet up, instead of moaning.
If you get upset about responses people make on here, you might be better off joining a knitting club instead.
I have had some harsh comments made to me and I have thought about their points and comments and have come back with a counter argument isn’t that what adults do in a debate?
I would like to think I am not set in my opinion and are open to change if I can see there is positive point made.
I like a good ding dong battle and peoples different opinions it make me think, and all the time you are thinking we are learning are we not?
We are never too old to learn are we?
What are your opinions to the forums?
What issues do you like to discuss?
My opinion is I am becoming hooked I have never used a forum before but have always been interested in different people opinion, even though at times I like to play devils advocate just to see a reaction. And all those that have disagreed me thanks there is no debate unless people disagree.

I'm responding as some of that looks to be aimed at my response to your embarrasing moments thread.

I didn't have to respond to your thread at all. However, I did so politely and for your benefit. Why? Because as a newbie, chances are you were unaware that yes, sometimes it's good to renew old threads, but in the main etiquette dictates that resurrecting the old thread (s, in this case) is usually the way to go. So I tipped you the wink beforeother people came along and pointed it out to you in a slightly more harsh manner.
What's the harm in starting a new thread on an oft covered topic? Nothing- if it occurs occasionally. However, if it continues unchecked it leads to a cafe full of "Shaven or unshaven" "Are there any genuine people here?" threads......
It was advice given for the right reasons. Take it, don't take it. Print it off & use it to wipe your arse on if you like. Whatever floats your boat.

With regard to the 'oldies' moaning - I think most 'oldies' do react politely to newbie threads unless someone takes it upon themself to become abrasive or insulting.
And yes, if you get upset by the responses people make, join a knitting club - and that goes for the newbies who don't like 'oldies' comments too.

Love it!
Aside from any comments about digging up old threads and such, I think people forget that that this is, in fact, a swinging site. Sometimes (OK then, often) people want to come here for a bit of light relief, not a deep and meaningful debate. If they wanted that, they could join a debating society.

As I've said previously, I actually find nothing wrong in posting on topics that have been done before, as long as the previous thread isn't on the same page or the page before.
I won't go into the reasons here (I did that on the previous thread lol ) but I can see your point Minx.
I also actually enjoy the heated debates that occasionally occur, and I personally find the ones which aren't about sex more interesting than those that are - it's the main reason why I keep coming into the forums.
However - I can see that the response to your embarrassing moments thread has stung you into your "knitting" reply, but, I feel you could have replied in a calmer, less insulting way.
There are a lot of very friendly, helpful folk on here, newbies AND us oldies wink and we though may sometimes disagree with each other, we try to do so in a respectful way.
Anyway, yes I do enjoy debating, lets get on with it -what's the next subject?
I like a debate as much as the next person, in fact I like to be metally stimulated as much as possible...
I haven't answered many of your questions because I am very very weary of newbies who ask a ton of questions first, it screams "journalist" at me......rightly or wrongly, but it does make me feel very very defensive....

I don't think you're alone Fabio.

I love a debate duel
But there is an old proverb that goes something better than, 'When a fool and a wise man argue it's hard to tell the difference'. By which I think I mean that not every debate is worth entering into here; there can be some very entrenched and prejudiced positions.

I came into the forums and had a good look around before I starting posting threads. I try and mix them up a little but have found the more topicial issues raise more responses. Something for people to think more about!

It wasn't meant to come across that way, I said it in a tonuge in cheek kinda way! I should add more emoticons to show what I am feeling!

I usually find that when someone starts a new thread that has been done before (no complaint) that alot wont reply because they have done so in previous threads, search isnt everyones friend (it hates me) and so i find it helpful those people who do put the links up to make it easier for others
That is why i put the links up not to hishearten from your thread

After my comments in the Road Tax thread I think I'd better keep :gagged:
Of course people like to debate but I have to say and this is in no way meant as offensive, the OP seems to get peoples backs up. Im not sure if this is meant in an antagonistic kind of way or, if the OP's posting style hasnt matured yet. One thing is for sure, some of the OP's comments are insulting and offensive to some people. You have to realise some of the comments made by 'oldies' are meant as guides for you not as 'put downs' as you seem to think. As in all things in life, older, more experienced people guide the younger or less experienced, its just the same here. Meant to be helpful not demeaning, take it in the spirit its given.
Continue to enjoy the forums.
I love a debate, I love 'meaty' threads that get me thinking and I love my brain to be challenged.
What I hate is moaners and yes that includes newbies who come in and moan moan moan.
Minx, you've started a few new threads over the past week or so and from what I can see they've been greatly received. You will get people agreeing with you or disagreeing. I think any author (new or old)of a thread which has challening views should expect some come back, you can't expect everyone to agree with you all the time.
So, in short if this thread is about the responses to the thread you started on woman working then really.
Old saying, if you can't stand the heat.......

and I also think it's important to remind the 'newbies' when they're moaning about us sticking together it's not about that, we happen to have spent a few years getting to know each other and there's quite a few of us that are friends and turn to each other for advice and support, it's as simple as that.

The op refers to people I see as "newbies" as "oldies". Does that make me "Middle ageied?"
I think there are newbies who just happen to have integrated well. I can honestly say I respond to every post on it's own merit, and will continue to do so- irrespective of the perceived age of the poster!

No thats reseved for me. A REAL oldie
I dont think its about age, its about maturity and I have to say there are posters here 20-30 years younger than me who are far more mature than I'll ever be. I think its more to do with attitude and how the written word is received.
