I have tried to leave these shores 3 times now and always been halted by family reasons and not myside. All bar 1 of mine life abroad and love it, and to be honest my kids are the only thing keeping me here and thats waering thin. Why do I want to go, weather ok but mainly I'm tired of living in a nanny state seen it getting worse ver the last 10 years, yes is suppose that is political but find it very hard to find anything English that makes me want to stay. confused

Children's safety that is no better abroad than here. Maddie? Ben? They're just the ones that spring to mind, who went on holiday and disappeared
Work opportunities plenty here too.
Time travel wow, can they do that abroad?
Culture we have that in bucket loads here.
Lifestyle we have that too.
Activities loads of them here!
Friendly people and those too!

Oh for goodness' sake. Don't be such a bloody victim - I stated answers to your points. confused
Without the Frecklebirds and Flowers of this world life would be pretty dull and boring - debate is about giving answers which you may or may not like so getting offended is about taking something personal - nothing personal in here - none of you can smell me so I rest my case lol

Well you did suggest some very questionable reasons. All the sort of reasons why I would want to stay here - not leave.

We've just done it... escaped Angleterre for the peace and quiet of France...
and you can get Earl Grey tea here... and not from the English shops either; the French love it.
Are we coming back to UK? Doubtful! We are Europeans after all! Next stop might be Slovakia. Why on earth would we want to come back to "scumbag" Britain?
Murder, , assault, dreadful governance and awful coffee are de rigour in Bliars Britain, now under the stewardship of a non elected commissar.
England isn't for the English any more so we aren't worried about leaving it for pastures new.

Well 3 cheers for you. I hope you will be very happy...am envious. lol
I would have loved to have emigrated when I was younger...my older Sis did and loves it. Its brought her and her family many opportuniies that they probably wouldnt have had if they stayed here.
They are many reasons people wiz off an live somewhere else. Doesn't always have to be political. Have an adventure of living in a different country, getting to know and understand a culture and way of life in another country, different opportunites available, sometimes better weather and lifestyle or for own health reasons.
If they were still transporting peeps for nicking a loaf of bread, I'd be up the local shop now lol
reasons to move abroad:
1) weather, lack of sunlight
2) living near the sea, or by a sandy beach
3) house costs
4) transport costs
5) people can be more down to earth, accessible and friendly
6) a new job less stressfull
7) better cost of life
8) fresh and nicer food
9) less crime
10) better schools
11) different cultures
12) new experiences
We are emigrating to Cyprus later this year. Indeed we are off out to Paphos in two days time to pick the keys up.
We already enjoy a good life style but believe we will have an even better one abroad. 340 days sunshine, less stress, great food, culture etc. We have a hill top villa overlooking 40 miles of the coast with completely unrestricted views. They even drive on the left hand side of the road. The people are friendly, the crime rate low, people show respect for their elders, yob culture is only evident when the Brits invade Ayia Napa!! Fortunately that is the other end of the island. Mind you even that has calmed down alot. Quite a fun place now.
We can't wait to go!
only those that emigrate can really answer truely but me thinks t for the better weather maybe thinking more relaxed style of living
we considered it last year dek got offered a job in australia better money, furnished house that came with the job, certain benefits better schools
but in the end we stuck to what we knew best without leaving family behind

That is most peoples reasons...family. I can understand that one especially if Australia is the destination. It's not just around the corner.
But to move abroad with the weather, the much more relaxed way of life and people that seem more friendly. Down South people just don't really want to get involved with other people they just go on their merry ways. I have neighbours only a few doors away that I have never spoken too in 6 years. I know my fault as well but....that is life nowadays which is a shame. Up North they are said to be more friendly, that is what I have been told by somebody I know who comes from Sunderland. I just really want to escape the "rat race " of the UK. lol
We shipped out for several reasons, some political, some social, some climate influenced....
France isn't perfect by a long way so lets make that clear, but... we can now get to see our GP within 24 hours, hospital referals are much quicker, we pay less tax, the roads are a lot less busy (esp. away from the major cities) we dont have any road tax (toll roads are your own choice), booze cheaper, fuel cheaper, housing generally cheaper... and the weather is better!!
Crime is generally lower and (our own personal feeling)the education is better...Daughter arrived with us speaking English and about 5 words of French.. she now speaks Engish (obviously!) French, Spanish and Chinese (smart arse!)
We have lived elsewhere (before anyone asks)spending time in both California and Canada but we ended up in Brittany although Canada still has a big appeal...
From outside looking in and having already lived in the USA, for us, the Uk seems to be more American than English nowadays (sorry peeps, our personal opinion!)
Whatever the States picks up on, tends to arrive in the UK some months later, whether its kids wearing hoods and talking using some wierd hand gestures or a load of people telling you that stuff is bad for you, you can't do that anymore and you will need a licence to do this from now on....etc etc
We made our choice and voted with our feet...but fear not... the Uk still has one true, real and dynamic skill....
It produces Marmite!! worship Worth the ferry fare by itself!

France isn't perfect by a long way Agreed- we found our mate's barns had been broken into when we arrived at the weekend, and they're in the midst of nowhere, with knobs on! so lets make that clear, but... we can now get to see our GP within 24 hours, hospital referals are much quicker, we pay less tax, the roads are a lot less busy Aint they just! We've been back & forth a lot in the last year- and only encountered one traffic jam in many, many hours of travelling. They're in better condition, too! (esp. away from the major cities) we dont have any road tax (toll roads are your own choice), booze cheaper,Wouldn't know innocent....but the cheese is lush! fuel cheaper, haven't found that to be the case recently- especially with the crappy exchange rate at the mo, but we know it tends to vary greatly in France housing generally cheaper Much,in the area we frequent!.... and the weather is better!! Still getting mud out of my ears, so no comment lol

There were some break-ins in central Brittany a while ago, nearly all of them on Brit holiday homes... credit to the local coppers though they did catch the buggers....
....At the ferry-port boarding a ship back to England. Some English persons of dubious parentage had come to France in a van and were helping themselves using holiday adverts to find out where to nick stuff....!!!
