reading through the forums last night i noticed a bar thread locked with a mods edit on it saying
mods edit not another 'bar' post count bumping thread

now as some of you no i love the GFZ/BAR threads and feel a little insulted my this remark (and before you all jump on me saying take it up with the mod it dont say who the mod is!!!!! although i do have an idea.)
i personally think this is SOOOOO wrong, i use the GFZ/BAR everyweek as its a fun place i have met so many good friends in there, we have a good laught and giggle and its a good place for newbies to get to know people, if i see a thread from a newbie introdusing themselves i always post say hi and tell them to pop into the bar thread and say hi what the hell as it got to do with post counts dunno we are all adults on here and a remark like that belongs in the playground rolleyes this is a forum and as it says on the forum index the cafe is for general discussion AND CHIT-CHAT so why it was locked i just dont understand! The bar gives abit of fun in constrast to the more serious threads. both have there place on here, or so i thought!
so my question to you is GFZ/BAR = post bump OR good plase to have a giggle and light hearted fun!!!!!
i would welcome your views
I like it. Its good for a giggle and when I joined was somewhere I felt comfortable to post quite quickly.
well you can talk bollox to your hearts content in there. I would say having it just once a week as a thread is good though
Honestly...... I find it REALLY funny....
But far too "clicky" rolleyes

"clicky" explain please hun dont no what you mean.

as a once-a-week thread, i like it. Its fun, its bollox biggrin and you can just kinda switch off from the discussion threads and say hi to people without hijacking the more serious and topical threads we have going.....
However. confused
It is also seen as an easy thread for newbies (and not just newbies I might add) - not only to be introduced, but to talk bollox, post one-liners, push up their post count so they 'appear' to be contributors to the forum/ cafe/ community as a whole, when actually they can very easily hit 1000 and no one knows anything about them! rolleyes
does that make sense?
I do like the way noobs feel comfy and accepted in the 'bar' thread - it's an easy way 'in', folk dont have to worry about posting opinions etc and getting flamed etc when its a discussion of a more serios nature where everyone has a different view etc, that siad, it is starting to feel a tad cliquey- and the bar thread, like most others now has its 'regulars' with the same handful of people posting over and over - most of which could actually be done in pm! :D
I dunno , thats just my view - but it has always been the GFZ , opened once a week by the mods as somewhere just to chill out and have a laugh.
i understand your point dark, but with a pm its between two people and not the community, i like it when people just jump its fun its a laugh.
i dont get this post count thing, why people are obssesed with it what does it matter if you have 10, 1000 or even 10000. surley as long as people are having fun and having there say thats all that counts.
as for just once a week why close it at the end of the weekend, people dont just chill and talk bollocks on a weekend.
i generally talk bollocks most days lol
The reason post counts matter is that - well, I don't know if everyone does this, but I tend to take people more seriously, read threads they've started or replied to, etc if they have a bar beside their name. Of course, most of them are names I recognise - to genuinely get your post count that high, you've got to be someone that everyone sees around anyway! But it can be deceptive when someone has a high post count, you sort of think 'oh, well he must have been around for ages so I shouldn't take offense / offer advice / ask him what the fluck he's on about' - and actually it can turn out that they've just posted 1000 one-liners in the GFZ or the word association thread or something.
I know it's not THAT important, because really people earn their place here by the quality and not the quantity of what they post. And (getting to the point!) I always liked the GFZ - I haven't been around here much lately so haven't been to one for ages, but I'll pop in this afternoon if it's open!

This was my exact thought when I saw it locked last night CPLBBW. Post counts mean nothing to me. its nice to come home from work & have a giggle with everyone who wants to go in the bar for a drink. As for being clicky well- EVERYONE IS WELCOME IN THE BAR & IS ALWAYS MADE TO FEEL WELCOME. Its your choice whether to take part or not there are other threads. Why stop us from enjoying ourselves though?
Personally I don't often go in the GFZ thread - I posted my bollox elsewhere lol
But I have been in there occassionally when I've had a crap day and just want to have a laugh with friends and not have to think too much.
I don't "get" what the post count really has to do with it. dunno
In my mind we have different types of threads in the forum to suit people's personalities and moods. You get to see a different side of people in there - similarly to how you might if you went out with work collegues for the night.
Having said that the GFZ formally opens on a Friday so was it locked because someone opened it a day earlier? :dunno:
Why just have it open on a weekend? Do people not want a chat with their mates during the week? I know I do. wave buddies see you in the bar tonight then. lol
Take your point, but I think Kitkat put it up at the weekend for a reason.
Like all good things - if it's there constanly it becomes tedious when it's here all the time.
When it opens at 6pm on a Friday those that like it have something to look forward to. lol
I don't know who locked the thread you are talking about, I can only say what I feel reading this thread now.
When people put posts up for munches, often it will say you have to be an active member of the site and have a date joining cut off point. I personally don't consider an active member of the site to be one that has posted 172 posts in one thread dunno
To me, it can almost inhibit people from spreading their wings and posting in other threads because it is easy. It is a limited way of getting to know others because not that many post in those threads compared with the postings across all the forums.
I don't understand why it isn't taken into the chatroom rather than the forum because it seems like a conversation going between a few people?
I don't often use the GFZ but I see that as a weekend letting off a bit of steam and having a laugh. If that was open all the time, similar to the bar, then it would not work as a place to let go at the end of a long week which some posters look forward to :dunno:

That seems about right to me!!
....and I don't know who locked it either, but I was quite pleased they did!! wink
well personally i post loads in the GFZ but i also post in all the other threads and the comment of some one who posts 172 in one thread is not considered an active member is bull!!!!!!!! like i say i post loads in the GFZ but i also post in all the other threads too AND use the chatrooms AND the ads, so because i post loads in one thread im not an active member that makes NO sense to me at all dunno
some people like the the GFZ thread some dont if ye dont then dont post in it simple! but why lock it, there was not another bar thread at the time i just dont understand. where does it say thar GFZ or any bar thread like it can only be opened weekends!?!?!?
rolleyes

There was a BFZ (It should come up on a search) but we ended up with the GFZ full of women and the BFZ full of men trying to get some peace!! confused :? :? :? wink
ok let you of as i cant complain
we can read what you write about the girlies its fine

I like the GFZ cause I can talk complete and utter bollox (I know, nothing new there then) but got to agree, weekends are enough. I know that some of the forum members have opened a couple of rooms in the Chat room so if we really want to have a mid week bar, the chat room might be the place to go. At least that way, it isnt cluttering the forums and people dont have to read if they dont want.

Well well rolleyes
Ok, well to be honest, I can see both points of view here, to those to whom the post count actually matters, yes I see your point, a little, but as has been said already, surely quality is more important than quality?
For me, the bar thread has several important functions,
1) it allows newbs to slide into the waters slowly, they know if they post bollox they are not going to get flamed, and it’s a way of having a chat in a relaxed atmosphere.
2) it’s a great place to kick off your shoes, let your hair down, and yes, if you let yourself, you can almost feel the ambiance and relaxed atmosphere, an almost real place to chill out.
3) sometimes I come onto the forums, read through the threads and find that there is nothing either of interest, or that I feel I can / want to contribute to, but still wouldn’t mind having a natter with anyone who wants to have a laugh, great way to relax without contributing something to another thread just for the sake of it.
As for weekends only, yes I can see the reasoning, though I may not agree, I accept it.
Cliquey? I don’t see it myself, but do understand the thinking behind the remark, why? because until recently I used to think the same thing, used to read the GFZ and post the odd comment that usually got ignored so thought, ah, a clique, and moved on, it wasn’t until I made a bit of an effort to join in that I really started to enjoy the thread.
Well as always, decisions will be made by those with the power, so we will just have to wait and see, as for post count for us personally? Nah, been here far too long to worry about that both as Caron & Pete and previously as Katie & John.
I hope that good sense will prevail and that perhaps some rethinking is done by certain people who maybe misinterpreted what the GFZ / Bar / Chillout Zone is really about, we talk a lot about community on this site, and every community has its place to meet and just have fun.
that’s it, over to you.
Pete that's a well balanced argument you've put across there
One comment I will add to this thread is something I haven't seen for a while, but does crop up every now and then.
You'll get someone who doesn't use the forum much start a thread moaning about:
"This is a sex site ffs. Why are you all just sat around here talking shite?"
the common consensus to these comments is usually:
a) yes we're swingers but that doesn't mean that's the only thing we talk about
b) If we talked about nothing else the forum would be stale and boring after a week
The feelings we all get when someone posts yet another thread about cock size or shaved balls rolleyes
If we sat here all day everyday posting "mines a pint please" I'm sure even the regulars of the GFZ would run out of things to say to each other
well i could go on but im not, each to there own and all that. so im just gona piss off and post as many posts in the GFZ as is humanly possiably this weekend flipa im gona talk constant bollocks, drink the place dry and if people dont like it dont read it simple!!!!!
kiss bolt
Have to say that the GFZ played a huge part in our earlier posting and allowed us to interact with many people we now think of as friends. For that light hearted, easy going, fun, banter then it is a worthwhile, long running feature of this site.......but as HLB and the Sarge has said....

Yep, agree with HLB damn good post Pete and not a lot I would argue with.
My thoughts on these type of threads and the GFZ are well known, can't abide em, but I can see that folk get a bit of fun out of them, hence I don't even bother having a peek through the crack in the door.

sorry i'm late, thought it was my night off
my shift should've started at seven, sorry.
who's made all this mucking fess in here ?

saturday 7th jan three days after i'd joined and only my second day of posting i think.
i saw the bar open and thought it would be a great way to get to know a few people if i took a job as barman for the evening so i just barged in and got involved. i've had a great time and made some goood friends in there.
yes the majority of my posts are in the bar or gfz threads but that's because they are fun places to be and has nothing at all to do with post counts. i generally don't spend long periods of time sat in front of the computer so to post in threads like these where it is possible to post and then come back 30-60 minutes later and pick up on it again is a great advantage over a chatroom.
i can't possibly see them as being clicky, i got on well enough with everybody on my first night in there and have since then always tried to welcome and involve anyone who joins in the thread.
right, thanks for reading...........i'm off to the gfz for a pint
