Frogster, I didn't join in the SH clock thread or the Word Assoc. thread, but you do have a legitimate complaint - it is a mystery why they disappeared, someone must have done the deed and you'd think that they would explain why.
Just don't mention Hitler or the Nazis!
Mike.

Phew - almost!
Both threads were well used by a variety of people. If the powers that be don't want post counts to go up gratuitously then maybe all the hello, goodbye, i'm leaving, i'm back posts should be deleted too.
If it's not about post counts, then why were they deleted while they were still being actively used?
ps. I have no interest in post counts per se. I have never commented on the number of posts I have made, I have never congratulated anyone on their post count. I would be more than happy to see the post count removed altogether. However, Call me sad, but I was enjoying playing the Word Association game, as were quite a few other members.

Maybe we should have a heated discussion.....

Have to say it seems a little harsh that ignorant gits - clearly in breach of the AUP are allowed to post and post, winding everyone up. While two quiet little threads that were surely harming nobody get not just locked but physically removed.
Perhaps a note saying these threads have been locked because we consider that they are no longer in the spirit of the cafe would have been in order (if that was the case).

It would be nice to know why it has gone.

My fault! - but I am sure you will understand when I explain
I was stuck between Alex and Calista in a threesome, and in a desperated attempt to extracate myself, insisted that the threads be deleted.
However, I ended up in deeper shit than when I started, ending up with a 5 some with Misschief, Alex, Calista and Clare so I think we can all agree that as the instigator of said deletion, I have received my just deserts!
I am contrite and shall not do it again!

I am having deja-vu now - reminds me of the verification thread.
Questions being asked - no-one answering them.
Or is that just me?

I deleted the word association thread
My reasoning.
Boring in the extreme to have to read it to check no one had put anything stupid, drugs references etc. I deleted a couple along the way.
It wasn't particularly funny and didn't contribute anything in the future of the site so why does it need to be left for future searches.
If it wasn't being utilised just to up some people's post counts, why are they complaining about it? edit: That should perhaps read commenting on it.

dunno I guess your interpretation of the AUP is different than that of the site Admin/Mods .............

I have been on this site long enough to understand the problems that mods have.
Howeve, there were very few drugs references made in the thread, which judging by the number of pages must have been a very small percentage of the total. There were parts of the thread that were boring, but there were also some very clever puns.
I agree that the thread did not need to be left for future searches...but many threads leave as little for posterity but remain intact. The fact is though, that the thread was still very active and providing several people with enjoyment.
I complained/commented. I find your implication that I am therefore a post counter a little offensive. Search back through my posts and find one where I comment favourably on my, or anyone elses, post count. If I wanted to up my post count I could post in every hello, goodbye, well-done thread. If I had done that I would have probably posted an average of 5 times a day x 383 days.

Fair enough your perogative - but how come you delete a thread where someone may put "Spliff" or "Joint" in as word association but a thread talking about drug references in popular music is considered fine?
Double standards?

Jackboot dunno - I only have riggers boots and hiking boots?? (Well, maybe a pair or two of my old service boots in the attic)
To be honest, I can't see the problem here confused Talking personally, not as a mod, so what if a couple of threads have been deleted. Nobody died. Get over it, jeez :? . Start a new word association thread if you want...... oh, someone did that already, silly me rolleyes . I've no idea what the clock thread was about, I never read it, but if you want to talk about clocks, go ahead :eeek: Some people including myself find these types of thread tedious, so maybe they need to be cleaned up after a while - maybe they don't, they do no harm, but hey ho, that's life.
Maybe we should invite BathColin back on the site, at least he kept everyone occupied and stopped you all getting bored
Sorry if this offends anyone, I'm not talking to anyone personally when I say that if they really bothers you, maybe you should go and do something a bit more interesting for a few hours.
Just my thoughts on something very silly dunno

Yes but it all had to be read and it was boring

Many don't have the potential to run for ever with little or no thought from the posters, which this had. I refer you then to the above.

It referring to their post counts, which doesn't include you, so why are you offended?

It wasn't deleted because someone mentioned spliff or joint and nowhere do I say it was. I deleted the references to hard drugs from the thread as I saw fit.
It got extremely boring monitoring it.
In the thread you're referring to, it's not.
They are also very different types of threads.

Thank you Jas for explaining your decision. And I can appreciate that monitoring fast moving threads is time consuming and not exactly a barrel of laughs. I've certainly never criticised the site policy before, or the work the Mods do, and I don't intend to start now.
(Have tried to type that about 4 times so as not to sound insincere, which I am not, but cannot seem to find the right words confused )
My only comment would be that several new people mentioned in the last 2 days that they struggled to find a thread that they could join in with. On recently joining a new forum the first post I made was on a word association thread (one which I might add which was 1400 pages long  ). When you are new, making that first nerve racking post is a great feeling and then you suddenly feel like part of it all. I felt that anything that encourages the nervous newbie to jump in was worth while.
I thought is was just a fun game. Talk of post counts (which I had to admit I hadn't actually thought of) has made me look at in a slightly different light. Though I'm 100% certain that was not Frogster's intention on starting it.
CQ - Going back to be with the boring people
Perhaps jon_tj has inspired me to tell it like it is.
Or perhaps I am just pissed.
However. The world according to Kat.
When I joined this site, it was perfect for me, could have been set up for me, exactly what I needed at that time in my life. Now it has changed, and I think for the better. When I joined, it was all talk and not much action. Now, it is a better balance. People meet. It is a true resource for swingers.
Now, I don't need to be here, I am just her because I enjoy it. In a recent post I said that it was not perfect for me anymore. My reasons for saying this are not selfish. Mark set up this site because there was not a single site in this cyber world where swingers for free could meet to talk about what swinging really meant.
The place where we did this, was in the cafe. This was where we explored ourselves. I feel, the cafe has lost some of that. A look down the list of current strings will show a large number of strings that are posted simply for amusement. In my view, too many. I would ask that people think before they post. This is a swinging site, including the cafe forum. Lets not turn it into a general chat forum, with the occasional swinging reference.

Some good points Kat, but the Cafe has always been rather bizarre and off-topic - I remember things like Ping-Pong, the GFZ, favorite music, film, food threads etc from when I first joined.
I wonder if the problem is that with so many new people on the site the Cafe moves so quick that only the more trivial threads stay near the top. Maybe a split to a "swinging topics" forum and a "general chat" forum would help keep the diversity going?
