It is said that if you have one true friend, you are a rich person.
If you have two friends even more so, and so on.
I used to have five friends I could call on at any time.
Sadly they have all moved away and over time we have lost touch.
I now feel somewhat poorer, and of course feel a great loss as well.
So how rich are you in terms of friends that care about you?
I feel the richest person in the world because my best friend in the world is also my can tell each other anything and we share things that just friends can't wink
Oh bollox. Another reason we are piss poor. sad

I still have my two best female friends from school ... we rarely see each other but one phone call and we'd be there for each other no matter what.
I still have my best male friend from school and have known him since I was 4 ... he and hubby get on like a riot and again if we needed each other we'd be there ... in fact he has been such a great help to me in the last 3 years in terms of confidence boosting etc.
Hubby is my best friend now .... in him I trust and gain such strength, his love is enveloping and so very protective ... I can tell him absolutely anything and know that he will understand or try very hard to .... a real soul mate ...
everyone else I class as acquaintances .... but a handful of people that I'm not particularly close to but have got to know over the years or indeed throught this forum I do care deeply about, but they may come and go .. my life is richer for knowing them and I hope theirs is for knowing me.
I personally feel very rich ..........
i've got one friend whos been my best mate for 13 years (we used to fight over my dressing up clothes when we were 6, bless!!) and although we dont live in each other's pockets anymore, we still love each other to bits! I've got 3 other close friends as well, but none of them are as close as my other one!
Please sir, can I have some more?
I could probably be a bit richer if i wasnt so bloody difficult! I fear its a trait i will never be rid of
I am very rich, no mates but buckets of cash ha ha
Woohoo....and there I was thinking I'm hole in the pants dirt poor. Move over Bill Gates. I've got 3 fantastic friends who are my soft place to fall.
And I got this from one yesterday...
Of all the friends we meet in life, there are just a precious few that we can say are real true friends as I can say of you.
:rose:
All the above posts are true, but have you met, or do you very occasionally meet, someone who you cannot call a friend but who you instantly know would be helpful and supportive and a true friend even without testing them? Empathy quotient automatically set to maximum.
I have known a couple of people like that in my life, and had proof of its truth once.
In the whole of my life I have aquired many aquaintances and many social partners...but real friends ..hmmm maybe only 3 one I haven't seen for 20 years one for 10 years and my best friend of all flew to Canada permanantly last monday.
I am so sad that these people are no longer part of my life ...oh yes I know communication is so much easier nowadays and I can stay in touch with my canadian mate but the realities of modern life and an inconvenient time difference and the exigencies of his new world will frustrate our attempts to do so .
But what I do know is I will fight hard and long to maintain contact you see the other friends I have no idea where they are nor how to contact them ...and I miss them !
Yeah true friends are as rare as rocking horse shit ...cherish them and let them know you care .
Libra you lucky sod can I borrow one of yours wink
As Nice said, it is very hard to trace any of my dear friends.
I tried in the past, and even got through to one or two.
Time has passed and they moved on again.
My contact details changed a few times, so I have resigned myself to the fact we are alas never to meet again.
Libra you lucky sod can I borrow one of yours wink

Of course you can. But....
Alas, mine too are also not all geographically close to me. One in SA, one in the Middle East and one down the road. But distance has not damped down our friendship. We still chat on the phone, text, msn and do cam2cam. I love it when we cam, bottle of wine, same music playing and late night chats. My computer is most definately my umbilical cord to the outside world.

Could not agree more. SO many married people do not feel the same - sad. (M half here - cant believe how luck I am (we are?) - 10 years together; 5 married; and still very very happy. And still learning new tricks (I wonder where from SH...!?). Too many people can't talk, stay unhappy, have affairs......)
So - I'm as rich as I could dream of

well here goes . . . .
it's a sad truism, that all too often you only really appreciate the good people in your life once they are gone. it's all too easy to think they'll always be there. it's a difficult lesson to learn, but a valuable one. sometimes i forget in the rush for the next good thing in my life, to remember the good things i already have, and let them slide away. and i'm poorer for it. too many friends and family are gone from me permanently, and i hope i have learned from it, and at least i'm richer for that.
other riches are true friends i've met, who i finally can be myself with, and they take me as i am without pretence. they are truly hard to find. biggrin
neil

yes i deleted it! cos i'm too bouncy to be sad, and it was a bit sad!

i mentioned on another thread about how my best mate of 19 years no longer speaks to me. In fact, the last time we spoke was when I told her abouit my swinging. Strange coincidence.
I've never been one to hang out with a crowd or have loads of mates. I've always had just two or three very close friends - and that's still the same today.
I feel rich beyond my wildest dreams! I love my friends xxx

they're not friends musketeer, they're angels!! smile
Just one true friend that I have had for 30 years. He never asks or judges anything I do or say. He accepts me for who I am.
Without him this world will be a lonely place.
