I have been using SH for a year now and am in a quandary as to what to do.
I sometimes feel I am a stage of my life to leave and have a break from SH, but then I have made a lot of friends that I have a laugh with here.
Do others get to a stage whereby you have got out of SH what you came here for in the first place, but then when it feels time to say goodbye it is harder to leave than what you thought it would be?
I really don’t know what to do!
I thought cancelling my subscription might be the best way as temptation to come on here would be gone.
But then to cancel would feel I have deserted what I enjoy about SH the fun times and banter in the chat rooms.
O dear please help!

Only a year? You should stay, you havent suffered enough yet
It is up to you want you want to do hun, but I wouldn't cancel, as if you do decide to come back, you will have to pay all over again! Best just to take the odd break from it, and pop back in when you need an SH fix....
I haven't actually had a proper meet yet, though have been to my first social, but really enjoy the banter on here, and have spent many an hour having a giggle..

As has been said minxy..don't give up your membership.
The only gripe I have really is that we spend too much time on here. If I left minxy what would the other forumlites do?
But if you left we could still chat on MSN hun. :lol:
I first came here 4 years + ago and in that time I have joined twice as I forgot my first profile name which was under a different email address. The second time luckily I have managed to keep and I have spent as long as a year away from here while I was concentrating on other things.
I'm very pleased that I didn't cancel the account as I love it now more than ever and as I was an old member don't have to pay to see pics
I would say, strip the profile down a bit, but keep it dormant as apposed to cancelled. If in 6 months time you still don't see yourself coming back then review the situation.

Minx ... today is my first day back after many many months away, I had to walk away for my sanity and I did manage it, all the people I chatted with regularly I have on MSN or Facebook.
I was very close to cancelling my account but decided not to and now I am really glad that I didn't.
Delete the favourite/bookmark and just be disciplined ;) You may well want to come back purely for a social visit.

Minx, at the moment I/we are thinking along the same lines as you. However I think that there's no reason to just cancel really. You enjoy the banter and the forum and there are loads who really enjoy you being here, I for one. What you could do is ask your friendly neighbourhood OP to ban you for a short time. That way you can't access chat or contribute in adding to forum giving yourself time for reflection and to maybe get yourself together with other parts of your life.

Welcome back!
As a paid memember I would still have to pay if I don't cancel I believe. I just need to be disciplined like you and just don't come on so often. I have other things I need to be doing and focusing on, I feel if I only used sh a couple of times a month it wouldnt be worth the money.

By cancelling I think I would lose my user ID. I don't want to do that. I might talk to an op..might be the way forward.
There might be a way they would only let me on certain days lol

Having given this some thought, as a paid member, if I felt the way you do, I'd leave. I'd give myself a cut off date. If I was still missing the site in say, three months, I'd join again. You'll have saved a few quid you can use to treat yourself.
The only disadvantage is the loss of your user name, but there are others.

Like Venus68 further up the thread, I first joined about 4 years ago. I stayed 2 and a bit years then after a row with BT got rid of my land line and sadly, with it my internet access.
I recently went back to BT and one of the first things I did when I got the internet up and running was to come back to SH. I couldn't use my old username and password so I joined afresh.
Its a real community. The posts are at once amusing, outrageous, serious, informative, hilarious. I could go on and on. All humanity is here. Wonderful!

I think carry on being a member but just do your other things, I have spells where I go off for a while then return but am lucky as I'm one of 'old' members from pre takeover.
In fact there's Calista on this thread, one of the true original SH greats returned unto the fold!
