The iconic word was used by the OP to describe the whole collection I imagine! The website itsself does not use such wording.
THey are all pictures that changed the world.

And the site is open to all of us !!
I clicked on this thread expecting to see stuff that I hadn`t seen ....not a bunch of photo`s that I was already familiar with that are "iconic" of the 2oth century ....."iconic" because they display the shit that happened !!
I`d have named the thread "shit photos of shit stuff that you already know about"
Then we could have made the choice of not looking !!!
Wise words Flower thank you, now don't let the door hit your arse on the way out...
Why would I be leaving ?
Are you closing this thread to people that hold a different view ??
Try it .
Nope Flower I was just thinking that as you obviously find the hole thread uninteresting and distasteful, you would have nothing further to constructively contribute and would therefore be leaving the thread to the people who do.
Sorry .... I haven`t scoured the thread to check ...so I`m prepared to be quoted !!
Did I say I found it uninteresting ??
Sorry ..... my mistake ...i apologise for saying that ... I find it very interesting that people celebrate photographs of other peoples pain and suffering on a swinging site .
Sorry my mistake I put words in your mouth...you said "shit happens"
But photography is not just art, is it? It is social commentary, reportage and has the power to educate.
That is worth celebrating, surely?
Some of these images are purely visual entertainment. Others are some of the best known and most powerful pieces of visual reportage ever. They should be celebrated. Equally.
Photographic journalism is a valid and worthwhile profession and always will be - without photographers, the plight of people in war and disaster zones etc wouldn't be brought to the attention of the rest of the world. Of course today the moving image and the availability of digital media is at the forefront, but when some of those pictures were taken, still photography was at the real cutting edge.
That flower is what, in my opinion, makes these photos so very worth looking at - however hard some of them may be to stomach.
Locking this thread as it's gone wayyyyyyyyyy off the intended path.
