Its interesting that the greatest incidence of transmitted infections is of genital warts – the one which could have been prevented by the Gardasil vaccine, but not by the Cervarix vaccine which the NHS chose to give to teen girls. Although their remit was probably just to reduce cervical cancers, it’s a shame they were unable to look at the “bigger” picture.

I don't think you can get any bigger than cervical cancer?
But beside all that the vaccine the girls are getting is aimed at preventing BOTH cervical cancer and cervical warts. It's those warts that can lead to cancer not the visible ones, so really they were looking at the bigger picture.
Dear Mar – I wholly agree with you about Cervical Cancer – if we can stop 70% of it by a simple vaccination It’s a really good initiative. However if we are going to take that step, why not go the whole way and use the vaccine that protects against all 4 strains of human papilloma virus including the ones that cause genital warts, not just the two that the NHS vaccine works on.

It doesn't surprise me to be honest, everyone is quick to judge the young kids because they are normally targeted in STI stats but to be honest I think there are (and clearly there are) a lot of more mature people out there who think they're invincible.. the 'it won't happen to me' attitude.
The government ploughs so much into sexual health for young people (Every Child Matters etc) but maybe needs to return and readdress older people? Or maybe as adults we should know better? dunno
Doesn't make for good reading does?

I don't think its adults should know better, education for sexual health issues wasn't as good for 40+ people when they were younger as it is now for the 13 - 25 age group. You didn't really hear of STI's etc
Was about 5 yrs here in Bristol that our radio station was highlighting sexual health issues aimed at 40 + group as gonorrhea was at epidemic proportions.
As for femadon's and dental dams I asked for some in our local chemist as we had ran out at work and the guy said they don't stock them as he had never been asked for them before.
