If your honest, why worry. smile

That reminds me of the good ol' "If you're innocent, you've nothing to hide" bullshit diatribe that's often trotted out by jobsworth arses more filled with their own self importance than anything else.
There have been some very interesting posts on this thread, and a diverse spread of oppinion as usual.
Dammie, I'm with you all the way on this one, no I have nothing to hide, do I mind being spied on by the powers that be? Dam right I do mad here’s an example:
I have it on good authority that several vehicle tracking systems are currently under trial thinly disguised as a means to trace stolen cars, help people who are lost etc. some using roadside or catseye readers, others using satellite technology.
Now we have all heard of Tracker and TomTom so we know fine well that the technology works, and at the moment, its voluntary so therefore not a problem. The whispers I have heard however is that there is a school of thought, cross party, that all cars should be fitted with an identity chip which transmits a constant signal to either the satellite or road side reader, so that the location of every car is known at any given time, the purpose, so that they can send you a nice ‘road toll’ bill through the post every month.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, it also permits them to calculate your average speed on any given journey, so with your monthly ‘road toll’ you will also get your monthly speeding fines :x
Ok so far outrageous, but just about liveable with (or not in my case) the final straw for me is that the b******* will be able to track every journey you make, where you go, when you go and any stops in between. Now call me old fashioned, but to me that is bordering on fascism, how flucking dare they?
Like I said, I have nothing to hide, but I’m flucked if I will let the B******* track my every move :dual:
UI wont even start on satellite and digital interactive media which is monitored by far more people than just the demographics compilers.
Anyone who thinks 1984 is coming, wake up and smell the gun oil, it’s already here.
<< alights from soapbox and heads for the pub lol
Who needs CCTV? If you live in a built up area just stick your post code in , select "birds eye" and zoom with the building icon
This all depends on how cynical/paranoid you are.
Governments like to control us and they have greater and greater methods to do it.
They can trace you purchases through credit card transactions, oystercards track your movements across LOndon, cctv spies on you etc.
Yes I'm paranoid and cynical. Frankly I would trust those Whitehall bastards as far as I could throw them.

We've just been reading up about the new kid's car seat laws. We think that they may be as much about selling a lot of extra equipment to parents and encouraging people to use public transport as they are about making cars safer for chldren.
Also, if '1984' is not this year, it will be in the next year or so.
headache?
tense, nervous headache?
you bet!
Thanks for the welcome to the madhouse Dambuster, and the comments?. thanks. Are we the only two real inmates in here, and are all the rest only virtual?.
Good, strong comments all around on this topic. Pete, dont know where you get the info but keep it up, very informative and well presented in a format that even I can understand. Straight to the point in laymans terms. (congrats to caron by the way).
The ''eyes'' are hear to stay folks, I think we all know that.
I think maybe we need to re-visit george orwells books......animal farm and 1984.
I have banged on about this already , but you know , i do think our so called democracy is being moved further and further from our reach. apparently politicians no best what is best for us
cctv cameras = less policemen on the beat
speed cameras= revenue= less traffic police
centralise A&E Units= less A&E professionals= further to travel= less beds= more people dying unnecessarily
wee jack McConnels smoking ban, wether you agree or disagree with banning it ( personally I think it s great) this was never mentioned in the pre election labour party manifesto, but nonetheless was imposed without consultation
next up Alcohol....major news items about how much alcohol abuse is costing the health service and industry .........yes you know whats coming next???????
