After the recent thread re Kilts and to combat current Scottish male stereotyping, lets have a celebration of Tartan on the Patron Saints day!
Girls feel free to join in.............
And if it all goes too pot, blame Jags, it was originally her idea!!!!!!!!!

Well as my contribution to Saint Andrews Day and being a Scot myself I'm gonna run up the street with nothing on and holding a Scotland Flag above my head.

You know - a man in a kilt would cheer me up no end.
Lang may your lums reek!!

An ode from Rob Burns (dec)
Is there, for honest poverty
That hings his head, an' a' that?
The coward slave, we pass him by
We dare be poor for a' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Our toils obscure , an' a' that;
The rank is but the the guinea stamp;
The Man's the gowd for a' that!
2. What tho' on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hodden grey, an' a' that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine,
A Man's a Man for a' that!
For a' that an' a' that,
Their tinsel show and a' that;
The honest man, though ne'er sae poor,
Is king o' men for a' that!
:P

Jags, I've seen you say this before, can I have a loose translation please? :shock:
I could cause lots of confusion here by changing my avatar to se7endriver's static pic :lol2:
Is there for honest Poverty
That hings his head, an' a' that;
The coward slave-we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a' that!
For a' that, an' a' that.
Our toils obscure an' a' that,
The rank is but the guinea's stamp,
The Man's the gowd for a' that.
What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, an' a that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;
A Man's a Man for a' that:
For a' that, and a' that,
Their tinsel show, an' a' that;
The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,
Is king o' men for a' that.
Ye see yon birkie, ca'd a lord,
Wha struts, an' stares, an' a' that;
Tho' hundreds worship at his word,
He's but a coof for a' that:
For a' that, an' a' that,
His ribband, star, an' a' that:
The man o' independent mind
He looks an' laughs at a' that.
A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's abon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities an' a' that;
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.
Then let us pray that come it may,
(As come it will for a' that,)
That Sense and Worth, o'er a' the earth,
Shall bear the gree, an' a' that.
For a' that, an' a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That Man to Man, the world o'er,
Shall brothers be for a' that.
I'm going to talk in pure scottish slange for the duration of me being here,lol.
Lets see how this goes eh.

Must be careful not to get wellies mixed up with wallies Angel - which are false teeth :shock:
I actually had no idea that oxters was only a Scots word. I thought everyone called them that. So do folk down south not have oxters? That can't be right?
Oh ARMPITS :doh:
Dunno where I got the wellies idea from :confused: dunno :lol2:
mmmmmmmmm kilts

Shouldn't that have been "the sassernach (sp?) word for them? "
Never had haggis, but what the hell I'll try anything twice (well I might have been doing it wrong the first time. lol )

Not so sure about the word being Ulster Scots - Anglo-saxon or Doric is more like it.
And I HATE haggis out of season!
