Bloody good idea agricola, they've got a special room in most of them, where they store lost property in individual boxes, I reckon it shouldn't be too difficult to lift the lid on each box and just listen out for a voice you recognise.

We know why Mr Smith travelled down in the lift from his 10th floor flat, went to work. On return in the evening he got back in the lift and went up to the 8th floor, got out and walked the last 2 flights to his flat.
