Jumper or Slider?

Are you a jumper or a slider?
Do you find something new, a hobby for example, and jump in with both feet. Buying everything you need in an orgy of indulgence (finance permitting), joining clubs and organisations all on the spur of the moment?
Or
Do you slide into a new venture, reading and digesting as much information as you can before committing. Perusing advice and review sites for any scraps of information you can find before dipping a toe into the unknown.
The reason I ask, most of my current interests are sedentary pursuits. Hobbies and interests that require almost no physical input from me at all. However, recently I have developed an interest in Kayaking, Sea Kayaking to be precise. Suddenly, I find myself reading reviews of boats, paddles, clothing and assorted kit with alarming regularity. I have a Favourites folder of sites and a list of possible boats and kit. I am defiantly sliding, but I’ve never even set foot in a Kayak.
So, better to jump, and find out soon if you like something, or slide, and see if the interest wanes?

PS. I chose a hobby as an example, but it could be anything. Buying a car, getting into that requires a significant investment of money or time.

And that includes having huge crushes on people surprisedops:
Feet first fast as I can first time every time with pretty much everything I do in life confused
Well pretty much everything I do take time and am naturally wary of things that can hurt me or those around me in any way. But pretty much everything else is rush in as fast as I can, not sure what that says about me as a person mind :?

The first one to refer the above comment to my style of sex gets a slapped arse
lol
I'm more of a meanderer. I don't really have any hobbies - I have things that I enjoy doing but I wouldn't call them hobbies as such.

Oh somebody has to.
What's bouldering?

jump, and try as many random things as possible without thinking!
the list of weird hobbies includes:
contortionism
burlesque
highland dancing
scuba diving
golf?!
hockey
team gym
pole dancing
stilt walking
trapeze
spanish lessons
flute
piano
ballet
judo
basketball
athletics
boring you all now!
and that's only the half of it!
and yes, I have my own stilts..................
woo-hoo! kayaking is excellent!!!
best boat currently (single) in my humble opinion would be one from the Pyranah range - multi purpose (i.e. can practice in rivers but hardy enough to take on open sea); but like I said, that's just my own opinion. biggrin
Definately a jumper here; usually buy all the gear and have a whale of a time til the novelty wears off and the actual cost starts to get through the pink fuzzy feeling.....!
Still, fun to jump in then look back and laugh. Hope you have loads of fun!

I get bored with sliding - although that has it's attractions.
A successful jump is such a big payback - if you get me meaning! confused
I suppose a half-way house could be a 'taster'.
thank you for the explanation.
Actually sounds like fun.

When it comes to new ventures, I err on the side of caution and take my time depending on what it is. I'm not a risk taker it has to be said

Aahh a slider-jumper - me too.
I've got to say that when it comes to hobbies and purchases I'm a jumper. Researching inanimate things is boring in my book.
When it comes to people, though, I need to get to know 'em really well. If I like 'em a lot, then when I find out what they think, it usually hits me hard - either way.
Sorry - bit of a hi-jack ****end hi-jack****
More of a jiggler, myself... its a bit like dabbling only more fun
Well I guess I'm a jumper!
Due to my 'condition' I tend to have narrow and intense hobbies/interests. In other words when I discover a hobby I am likely to become obsessed with it, learning evrything I can.

Oh definitely a jumper here, if someone mentions doing or trying something different, often it's greeted with a full throttle
Woohooooo!!!! Lets go Geronimoooo
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Trouble is, it's only when I get somewhere that I realise what I've let myself in for :scared: Everything seems so much fun when being organised and it's months away ...... and I'm pissed :undecided:
Stuff like this doesn't normally turn into a hobby as such tho - usually just so relieved I came through it alive, I don't even think about putting myself through it again ........ until down the pub reliving it and all of a sudden, down goes that third drink and it becomes the best thing ever!!!! confused
As for hobbies - yep, once again the full throttle
Woohooooo!!!! Lets go Geronimoooo
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
But then do tend to do the "sliding" thing once it comes to investing in the hobby. I want the best that my little bit of money can buy, so tend to do a lot of research and get something middle of the road that's reasonably priced, as opposed to the high tech top of the range designer thing.......... dont' get me wrong - I would deffo go for high tech top of the range super dooper one if I could. But have to make do with picking out best, most useful features and compromising on the features a beginner wouldn't use in a hundred years (in which time, I would be long bored and onto the next hobby! dunno
Soooooooooooo, me next hobby, not a spur of the moment thing, something I've wanted to do for a few years now, but haven't got round to it.....
Bring on the hovercraft!!!!
:twisted::bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Not a jumper for sure or indeed a slider as it is described. More a drifter, take something up then drift in deeper and deeper.
It does depend what with but I would have to go with slider-jumper too boink
To be honest, although I’m slider for the most part, if I had a greater disposable income, I’d be a jumper, and come home with all kinds of useless crap. redface
Stormy
its a job to know wether its best to jump or slide at times after all curiosity killed the cat lol
