I'm really sad about this. It seems that the press are determined to ruin their lives ... with the totally crap argument that any story about William is a matter of public interest and therefore justified. I think they ought to be left alone ... and any reporting of any relationship should be considered not just bad taste, but an offence ... come on, Tony, get that through as a law before you go. That would be something worth having!

If no-one was interested in these stories then there wouldnt be a need to report them. Lots of people like to read about the goings on in the royal family and with celebritys. Even though I do agree with you to a certain extent. I do think that being a member of the royal family you automatically know that this will happen, but the reportings should be a bit more low key, so that they can just get on and enjoy their relationship without constant hounding from the press.

It's also quite possible, seeing as they have been together since university and were probably each other's first love that they just drifted apart.

Buggered if I know - tradition has it that the reigning monarch is married to someone of "noble" birth, and it has always been so. Camilla has royal connections going back a long way and the last bloke to marry a commoner, Edward had to eventually abdicate.
I cant help but think that William and Harry will put their foot down and change the way that royalty choose their wives/husbands...
I personally think that it was all of the different pressures on Kate Middleton that was the problem. The media attention, the constant pressure to get married which would have then turned in to pressure to produce an heir to the throne. She isnt used to the media attention and I expect that she has her own idea's on how she would like her life to go rather than be told how she must live it.
It's very sad... I just wish that the media would leave them alone a little bit more with regards to their private life... Yeah sure report about their official duties, visits etc but give them a little breathing space when it comes to their relationships...
Couldnt have put that better myself Shireen...
So I wont try
My view exactly..

Aye well, look what happens even when you get royalty through and through... take Charles and Diana.
Why not exactly!... I think maybe a few more 'commoners' would keep royalty on their feet, stop their pretencious stupidity.
Royalty... pfft for me, couldn't give a monkeys.
BUT.. I happen to like William and especially Harry very much.
Apparently William is just not ready for marriage and is sick of the paparazzi, nothing new there.
The fact of the matter is that we wont ever know why they broke up really will we?
Public/media intrusion and interest? or is it just that they drifted apart like somebody said earlier on, lets face it they are both young people, early 20's, the likely-hood that they were to stay together was very remote.
I think it was more a case of the general public wanting a fairy tale relationship and subsequent royal wedding 2.4 royal children and all that bollox.
The royals are people and people who are in relationships split up, have arguments, drift apart and are even dare i say it UNFAITHFUL
I think the Charles/Diana saga proved that public perception and the reality of what goes on within the royals lives are poles apart, and that regardless of their royal status they are just ordinary people in an extra ordinary position.
They split up, case closed!!
Do you know what I don't care, it's their business not mine. I am sick to death of the press in this country, it builds people up to unsustainable level then at just the right moment, which is usually at the point where they (the press) can make the most circulation/money. They hound them and knock the straight back down, with no thought for feelings of the people involved.

i totally agree with almost everything you say apart from.....as a member of the general public...i really couldn't careless how their relationship turned out....its the media that wanted to turn it into a fairytale relationship....if i never saw anything in the news about the royals...it would still be too soon!

God i so hate not being totally right mad lol
Why should we care, it's just another couple who have broken up.
Does it have any effect on me or anyone else - No, so why is it front page news?
People need to stop living vicariously and let others get on with their lives.
Same with all the gossip rags about 'celebrities'; don't give a shit what they do or don't do.
As long as it doesn't affect me or the world in general they can do what they want.
lets just live our lives the way we want and let others live theirs the way they want.

i love the fact that there is a big hooha about two people spliting up! jeez, there have been soldiers killed in iraq, planes crashed but lets dedicate the news to two young people who dont want to be in a relationship any more.
if i had to guess at why they split up i would say "i dont give a shite" lol, but if pushed i would possibly think it may be something to do with the fact that a couple of weeks ago he was photographed fondling and groping other women, so either he was cheating on her or they are swingers lol, in which case, lets ask them for our selves!
would be a good start if everyone stopped buying Hello and OK magazine...do we really need to see another rag with another trashy celebrity wedding we're they are getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds for the photo rights!

hear hear very well said. smile
I can't believe anyone really cares!! confused
I am far from being a royalist, but I think it's easy to forget they are just human. William is a young bloke who wasn't even allowed to mourn his mothers death in peace. He can't go clubbing and snogging loads of people (just like most people his age do every weekend, if they've any sense...) without a million photographers hovering arond him. I feel a bit sorry for him, actually, as he was born into that ridiculous position and has never had any say in the matter.
It isn't news that he's split up with his girlfriend, and they should be left alone. The royal family may be a waste of money but they are people and entitled, I think, to the same privacy and respect as everybody else.

The difference is slight. Her family are in the 'top' circles and are dripping with money. Also HRH Queen Mother was a 'commoner' from one of the most ancient aristocratic families in the country. Commoner doesn't mean common like we think of it - it means not in a royal family. In the same way as 'poor' doesn't mean the same as it it does to real-life people.
Common , commoner, or what ever, still well above my 'pay grade'.
Given a choice what would you get them as a wedding present ?
Now as a probable future King and Queen of England, UK, Commonwealth, etc. it would be good if they both have a broad understanding of what really goes on in the world, something sadly not always possible via the uaual new media, politicians, and 'hangers on' they will encounter.
Therefore this requires quite some thought, wouldn't you agree ?
However an idea came in a brief lucid moment. With over 1 million members, mainly UK based, we therefore probably comprise a significant percentage of their loyal subjects. Indeed with this number bigger than any UK based single industry or company.
Therefore the plan would be to offer them SH membership.
The thorny question has to be what type though. Whilst to the republicans amongst us the free membership package might have it's attraction, however this could appear cheap. However, would they really benefit from an Extras membership, surely they wouldn't need to post more than 10 photos in their gallery, there are loads available elsewhere.
Any thoughts or suggestions ?
PS Does any one have an email address for them for their Membership ?
lol HnS.
