TBH the only time I can't get warm is when I'm ill.
I did find though that as soon as I left the heating on 24/7 but dropped it a couple of degrees my heating bills came down drastically. Apparently it costs more for the boiler to be working its butt off twice a day to warm up a cold house than it is to let it 'tick over' all day with a small top-up. It also seems that the structure of the building then starts to absorb the heat too and acts like a radiator. Worked for me. Currently the gas company owes my £400+ because my monthly payments are now too high.
It's great now that the house is warm all day regardless of the time.

what do you have the temp set at then? coz currently it's costing me a small fortune to heat my house.
whips
21°C usually.
I have the upstairs' radiator thermostats set to 3 or 4 and downstairs I just let the main thermostat do the work.
It cut my bills by at least 20%.
does this work for all types of heating ie gas/electric and oil ? ( sorry thicko moment) i have oil central heating and prices aren't coming down as quickly as I would like!

I'm afraid I don't know for sure as I have a gas combi boiler, but physics being physics I suppose the theory is the same. TBH I can't see it costing more so try it for a couple of quarters and see what happens.
Sit in front of the fire, with as many clothes on as possible.
I've just about defrosted after walking daughter to school this morning, rolleyes

I'm on oil too and nearly out of oil  so I'll wait til I can afford to fill 'er up before I try the all-day thing. It's a delicate balancing act. Hope it works tho cos I'm fecking freezing
aww i feel for ya, costs over £600 to fill my oil tank! debating the all day thing now as being a complete newbie to central heating the tank indicator says i'm on level 5 out of 10 ( i think) so might be worth a try, hmmmm see what Mr K says tonight
thanks peanut!

cheers peanut. i have mine on lower than that for a couple of hours a day and it's still costing me small fortune a week with a newish combi boiler that has been serviced!

Combi boilers are pretty efficient these days, so I reckon you'd start saving after a couple of weeks worth of getting the house up to a steady temperature.
The reason my thermostat is set so high is because downstairs is like a building site and I have no carpets and in the front room some of the skirting boards are missing so there's a permanent cold air supply from under the house. Once I've got the work finished I'll probably drop it down to about 19 degrees.
it's all crap for their 5 billion pound a year profit margin. i can really see why they have to keep putting up the prices, my heart really does bleed for them. and no, really, i have nothing better to spend my money on! evil

It's not really helped when the Government sold off our North Sea oil and gas reserves so now we have to import most of our fuel so are beholden to the importers and their price demands sad
