Was Martin Shaw more convincing as The Chief?
He actually is a rather nice gentleman, lives in Norfolk and gives up some quality time to charitable causes...

More convincing than what/whom?
Mmmmmmmm Martin Shaw - yummy.
Sean Connery mmmmmmmmmmm yummy
more convincing than as Judge John Deed.... do keep up!!
Nicolas Cage as Captain Corelli.... everything about that film was WRONG, but he was the wrongest thing about it!

I hear ya
As much as I like Kevin Costner, he's made a few films that haven't convinced me at all and this was the classic example. Alan Rickman though, is so OTT he's brilliant! It's almost panto :giggle:

One of my friends crews on JDD sometimes, he thinks he's a tosser
(the chuck wagon isn't allowed to serve anything with meat in at breaktime, cos mr shaw is a veggie rolleyes )

What a pile of pants that film was. I could fill the site with all the s**t things in it but...
How did they walk from Dover (white cliffs clearly visible) to Nottingham in one day, seemingly via Ireland (giants causeway)????

Well, that confirms it then doesn't it! You just know you've arrived when the chuck wagon won't serve meat because you're a veggie! As for him being a tosser because of his beliefs.. something abut pot/kettle or it takes one to know one? dunno

I seem to remember that follows through to the storyline as well.... whenever someone goes to his lodgings for food they have to have a veggie meal.
Mind you.... I should watch what I say 'cos Mrs C wanted to marry him before she met me ;-)
Back to the original question... who in their right mind decided that this bloke should be a romantic lead in so many films:

dunno poke loon smackbottom

No, i think the point was he is a tosser not because he is a veggi, but because he forces everyone else to be one with him. If you have a belief fine, but if you force your belief on me, not fine.
