I think obsession, as someone has already said is unrequited. Usually.
Also, I think it is generally unwarranted. Obssessing over someone when you don't really know that much about them. Constantly thinking about them. Making phone calls, following them, 'happening' to be in the same place at the same time as them, making believe that there is more involvement than there really is between you.
It can be quite scary, especially if you don't realise that that is what is happening to start with, and are a bit too friendly.
