Munches and socials... to go or not to go?

Just thinking, as I browsed the Let's Meet Up section (checking out who is going to some of the events I am going to... all in the name of research - not perving, honest!! wink ) there are some people who attend SH Munches and Socials, and there are others for whom they don't seem to hold any appeal...
So, are you a muncher or a socialite? Would you rather only have private meets? Does the social side of the site interest you?
For me, I have made some great friends going to the munches and socials that I have been to. I enjoy them. I like putting faces to names. I like the chance to meet people in a relaxed situation. Basically, I just enjoy a good knees up!!
Just wondering about everyone else... lol
It all terrifies the hell out of me!
I'm not a meeter, but I am a muncher lol

one and the same... surely?
cool lp
in edit, and as water-tester: Im toying very lightly with the idea of a London-Social.
If anyone should see this and be interested, let me know of your thoughts via PM... dates/times/ares etc... and we'll see what we can do . I didnt want to start an LMU just yet
I have been to a few munches over the 3 n half yrs of being here........ and i love it!!!!
It's a great time to meet all those people you have been chatting and laffing with for ages. Yes, i will agree its a nerve wracking experience at first, but you soon get the hang of it. And i have to admit, there not the same now as the ones i attended 12-18 months ago.. but thats life.. more and more new people to meet each time you go.
My first one was in Essex... It was strange sitting in a pub with the only 2 people i knew was the ones i'd travelled with... and believe me, i nearly died when somebody came up and said "hi" calling me by my real name lol
But its all worth it in the end. biggrin

Awwww :therethere: Dark_side, I was petrified the first time too. All worth it though, great company.
 I would recommend going to one if you can!
Would you call me a tart if I said I like all forms of contact.
I've even had meets where it wasn't with sex in mind.
.
GO ! Find one where you know some of the people, but 100% go.
Munches always used to be advertised as a way of newbies chatting to oldies and getting to know people.
But, if you are too new to the site, you can't get on the list, and the music can often be sooooo loud, you can only communicate using semaphore. lol
The only things that stops dawnie and I from going to more munches than we do is the lack of childcare (babysitters doesn't sound right due their ages). and the overall cost of the events. Petrol, hotel bill, etc, it all mounts up.
Some advertise a fancy dress theme, but don't worry if you don't wish to join in. It's not compulsary.
And of course munches are a total non playing event so you wont be  at any nocturnal activities.
Ian
We've been to two local socials and had a blast both times.
The only thing that puts us off going to ones further afield is the cost of it ie hotel and petrol oh and childcare.

Yeah... I probably would call you one after your blatant attempt to cop a virtual feel in the bra measuring thread!!

Ian, that has to be one of the best selling posts for munches I have ever seen.
I fully agree with the comment about newbies, but there have also been some munches advertised previously which were specifically aimed at newer members and I have to say that the one I went to, was the best one I have ever been.
I love Munches, but at the moment I just dont have the time to go to as many as I would like to, or they always seem to be booked for times when I have other things arranged.
Personally, I would recomend that any member at least have a go, if it isnt your thing then you have only lost one night, but if you enjoy it, you can guarantee you will soon be wanting to attend more.
Good post Nola wink

Maybe... smile
I'm definitely a munchette....I always have a brill time, met some lovely people, had a good giggle and made some great friends along the way.
I was really nervous :scared: going to my first one few yrs ago and asked for a hand holder, who was great wave Totally recommend that if its your first as they introduce you to other attendees etc.
Anyone who hasn't been to one...go for it, what have you got to lose but meet some lovely SH members? smile :)

If you make a friend on here and they're going too, you can always go in with them. Makes it much easier.
Most of the best munch organisers will offer to arrange for a friendly hand-holder if yer nervous. Once you're in there it's a blast honestly.
My Angelica was saying only tonight what a pleasure it is being in the company of like minded people with whom you can talk about practically anything. She used to be a nervous type - just look at her now! wink
.
We go to a social every month and have a really good time, we are very sociable people and love meeting people for a drink and a drink we find it helps us to see how people really are with out a computer in front of them.
Oh and I forgot the best bit...... ya see some great boots and shoes!! lol
Myself and bbw_lover are going to our first next week... We're both a bit nervous but really looking forward to it.... It's going to be great putting faces to names!
OOOOOO can't wait now!!!!

And butterfly's to bums, bums to faces :lol2: :lol2:
You;ll have a great time Miss Kitty
I can take or leave them. They're not my be all and end all. I've been to a only a few socials. I've yet to attend my first Munch with Jay, hopefully we'll be attending the Wigan one.
I prefer more intimate socials, ie meeting up with friends that you know and trust and having a nice night together.

Me too courtesy of my autism and a really, really bad social anxiety disorder, but this year I've decided to grit my teeth and have signed up for two, with maybe a third too.
Absolutely crapping myself but I'm determined to manage it!

:bounce: Yay! Will be fabbo to see you both xxx
have to say..i really do love the socials we have from the midlands room. You firstl get to put faces to names...and then you can chat and see if they are the sort of people that are on your wave lengh..and if lucky you make some real damn good friends...and worst you have a bloody good laugh. I love the fact that is a non pressured situation.
Bring it on 30th aug..Cannock social

I hope you don't think the comments on the thread were trying to shame you. Honestly, I'm sure most were just trying to demonstrate that there is nothing to worry about.

A lot of munches (if not all of them) offer a handholder service..
This is where a member will offer to accompany a newer member at the munch and introduce them to a few people and generally look after their well being untill they feel more comfortable....
The hosts will sometimes do this but hosting a munch can be a very occupation so a handholder is a good bet for someone who is nervous
I've been to exactly one. I was quite nervous, and stayed talking to the same people all night (they were lovely people though). I'm on the list for the Wigan one though - looking forwards to it :-)
Dearest Members,
What is important is.....
if you place your name to attend either a Social
OR Munch then please do show up
.
If you cannot attend & you know this before, then please please contact the organizer.
This can be done via the Thread within the Froum OR
via PM.
What get's me mad evil :x
is when Members give no reason for non - attendance
even after the event.
These members need to think that their place could or can be given to another.
So please show respect.
From,
Wunderhorse.
