have u ever been to the summer music thingy at de mont in leicester ?
always looks good
Live for preference.
Decent stereo is an acceptable alternative.
Cant abide tinny headphones or worst of all PC speakers.
I like my headphones and portablemusic... that and a book go with me everywhere.
However I do enjoy live music and forget how many gig I went to in the eighties and early nineties.
I was lucky as a child also, as Led Zep used to use our garage to practice, Jon Bonhams drums needed somewhere to stay. The shed on the allotment was also used my Gilmore as a workshop to sew up the inflatable pig for a record sleeve. As he was doing this I was lucky enough to hear his writing attempts for the accompanying album. He was using a stylophone for the writing and a Buttoneer for the sewing.

small to medium size venues for me as a preferance.
The Hammersmith Odeon is about the top end as far as size is concerned. (although Motorhead there has to be the equivelant of a religious experience... not salvation mind you... not quite sure what to call it)
The old Marguee... fantastic
Just up the road, the Astoria, wonderfull.
Kentish Town (now Forum) ... just right.

There was a chap playing the bag-pipes on the Wandsworth Bridge roundabout the other day.
Not something i've considered a venue before, but it has potential I guess.

Guess I'm kinda odd cos I don't like music, never been to a concert, wouldn't put a C.D. on. I do listen to music, can't avoid it, it's all around me, but wouldn't do it voluntarily.
I love love love live music.
