hi people,
just recently we have been downloading loads of music......but there's a few songs that i have to play when i turn my laptop on and its the carpenters-yesterday once more.
i dont know why but when i listen to it it puts me in a real good mood.
m i seriouly sad?????
can someone please tell me why w listen to sad songs whn we r already really sad???

As for why we listen to sad songs when we are sad, my theory is that we are looking to connect with the feelings that are making us sad and the lyrics of the songs help us identify with our sadness and in some way give us comfort. I personally love the Oasis song Stop Crying Your Heart Out. I often listen to it when I am feeling down.

I agree I think some of the 60's and 80's music is much better than some of the manufactured crap produced today.
Must admit I know all the songs you have mentioned and they are not bad at all. I have to admit to being a bit of a Lionel Ritchie fan as well - Dancing on the ceiling and all that.

But 3 great tracks to wallow in by STAINED are Epiphany, It's Been Awhile & Outside but they always lift you in the end

22 and the only artist I've heard of in the above list is Diana Ross. 
I only listen to music to lift me up and energise me, if I listen to it when I'm feeling down it tends to drag me further. Personally I like stuff like Leftfield, Chemical Brothers etc.
And the manufactured crap pop that's out nowaday's is bloody dismal. Then again so is some of the R'n'B/Hiphop stuff.

Eminimen is alright, but some of this new R'n'B stuff is ridiculous. A prime example is the old song they turned into a no.1 single. Umm... can't remember it's name, or who sang it, but it goes like
"It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it..."
Just taking an old song, ripping it off and selling it to a bunch of tweenies with more money from mummy and daddy than sense.

I can be glad in saying I never heard of it. I got the Chemical Brothers album going right now, although I do like to make my own music as it guarantees it'll be something I like.
