Can I suggest everyone read a book called "America Alone" by Canadian-American auther Mark Steyn.
I know it sounds one-sided, but all you've ever heard uptil now it the other side.
As for religion, Dawkins rules!

I think it would be hilarious to see Dawkins face if when he dies and finds that there is some sort of afterlife.
Actually though dawkins is way behind recent developments in quantum physics.
There are many special things about most religions and faiths, particularly where the 'nicer' things are highlighted. We have our choirs up and down the country, doing some special stuff in the name of Christianity.
We don't lack in the higher aspects of appreciating faith stuff in the UK, but we have got out of the practice of doing the groundwork that makes the appreciaton all the more rewarding.
Bah humbug and all that, but if you can do it for one week at xmas, is it so demanding to try and spread some of that cheer across the year also? The goodwill exists, the potential is always there' it just needs the application. But we don't, and we ration ourselves on it.
So perhaps faiths are like other things one lives by. For some its sex, drugs etc. For some its keeping fit, for others its a faith providing the big high.
you can spread cheer ,goodwill, morallity across the land without any need of gods, fairies or any other religious stuff

People only do it then to make sure they get their Xmas prezzie...don't want to be left off the list. lol

But only if he's hitching and tries to the babe who picked him up.
One of my favorite atheist quotes ever sums it up for me
“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”
-Stephen Roberts
good point, but at least when people worshipped the sun, moon, thunder, booze, sex, etc,at least these were tangible things and so made more last couple of thousand years has got millions really believing in stuff they cant see,but accept that bronze age preachers actually had conversations with days we lock em up,or pick up the pieces ie david koresh,or even george bush
I prefer to not argue over religion, to let peeps get on with wateva they believe.
Howeva i do frown upon those who try n throw it down other peeps neck, this to me is such a noonoo.
With regards those moslem women who claim that men treat them with more respect when they wear a hijab... should'nt men be treating them with respect anyway, no matter what they are wearing ?!
All religeons tend to treat both women and sexuality with fear and disdain, if religeon had its way, this site and swinging in general would be banned.
Its worth checking out the National Secular Society website for regular news on what religeous fundamentalists are getting up to.

Cant fault your thoughts on this Riot, I agree. Hey and welcome to forum wave
well i have a few female muslim friends and i have always found all religions interesting and have talked at length with them about it i just wish i had friends of other religions that actually know something about thier chosen faiths so i could learn more about them i have a lot of respect for those that believe and follow thier chosen faith devoutly mainly because i never could i have no faith and no desire to have one i was brought up C of E went to sunday school was in the church chior although asked to mime as i sound like a screeching cat lol and attended bible classes as a young teen my father became an evangelical preacher in usa so i have a fair understanding of christianity and still i don't believe a word of it
my personal view is that any religion is just a set of rules and moral guidlines set out to keep peeps in line with a god thrown in for good measure as they need someone to have to answer to when these rules are broken and you have to hand it to whoever came up with the idea it works very well for many that feel the need to have something to believe in and i understand why as trying to comprehend this vast universe we live in is just mind boggling ie: why r we here?, how did we get here?, what is our purpose? its beyond me  just the difference for me is i just don't need a god to explain it for me in fact any explanation would most likely just confuse me further loon
so i say those that believe then good for you i have a healthy repsect for you just its not my bag i prefer to believe in things i can see, hear, touch, taste, smell and reason so generally chocolate :giggle:
Meanwhile whilst muslim women have had a fair shake of the stick, what about the muslim guys? Are they Taliban spouting mysoginist creeps? Strangely enough they are not.
They also dress head to foot in 'decent' apparel, and will put as much into their dress oriented outward display of Islamic faith as the women.
The point is, if you such peoples dressed in their 'sunday best', how do you feel? Respect, admiration and such?
I think Islamic women can be extraordinarily sexy. There's enough or lack of dressing there to make out some stunning figures. And they do a good 'heel' as well.
