:color: "Panic Attacks" Anyone else have them? how do you deal with them? do they affect your life? Im having a massive one today, know ive to go out the house (need more ciggys)yet scared shitless about doing so. ( great way to give up smoking i guess) lol   Just wondered if anyone felt the same???? Merl. xxxxxxxxxxx
Wow...
Surprised me there..
You seem a confident person, just goes to show.
The thing is to rationalise your feelings.. Take stock and play into your own mind the reality of a situation.. think about what can really happen!! What ever is making you panick is mostly in your own mind.. calm down sit back and talk it over in your own head.. reason will win over..
Good luck...

Did you go to your doctor after your post on depression a few weeks ago? Panic attacks and acute anxiety are often linked with depression.
Best contact your doctor or phone NHS Direct, who can offer advice. Medication could help in the short-term, as could self-help groups, counselling, relaxation tapes, and other relaxation techniques which help to control the feelings of panic - different things work for different people.
Good luck.
Hi,
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) could help you overcome your panic attacks. Try and contact your GP or health centre and see if they can arrange some help for you. You can definitely beat this but you might need a little help. Good luck smile

Awesome, your last threads have been on similar lines and you don't mention having visited the doctors after your last bout of advice given.
I know close hand about panic attacks, but I'm not a professional and I don't want to start giving you advice when I don't know you or your circumstances. Please seek professional advice.

I would definitely reccommend going back to the doctors for a review of any medication you're on kiss
I suffered from anxiety after my kids were born, treated the same as depression.
Thankfully after a couple of years I was off the tablets, and haven't been on them for about 9 years now. That's not to say I don't suffer from anxiety anymore, every now and again I'll get pangs of it, usually if it happens, it's a morning after the night before thing. Although drinks a depressant, so kind of explains itself really confused
You're at least in the stages of treatment, and getting the dosage/prescription right - so just bear with it ok  If you don't feel right, then get back to the docs for another review, eventually it will all stabilise out and you'll get yourself on an even keel, and stop them bluddy no reason terror butterflies!! :?
Good luck, hope it all sorts out soon, it will, just stick with it until the docs get the medicaiton fine tuned
As Mike said, self help groups could work for you - you're then in contact with people similar to you, at the very least, you'll see you're not alone with it, and it can be sorted biggrin

What...a little bit of anxiety can sometimes be mistaken for a panic attack!

Overall this is probably the best advice. I have had panic attacks, acute anxiety, and depression, which was all linked to a nervous breakdown several years ago brought on by stress.
The only real option is to go to your GP.

hmmmmm you know what I'm referring to young fella-me-lad
To be fair, in a round about way you were quite correct in that I've witnessed someone having panic attacks and believe me they were in no way shape or form in any fit state to be typing a thread.

indeed it is.
i dont know if you sought medical advise re the depression, either way the panic attacks could be linked. although it might seem daft , some anto depresants can cause panic attacks. a actual attack tends to be a overwhelming thing, racing heart etc, maybe if youve had this feeling with you all day it could more be anxiety.
all worth explaining to your gp. if you dont want to go out to the dr's call nhs direct they are very good at getting a nurse to call you back and talk things through.
dont ignore it, if your leg was broken youd get it seen to, dont reglect mental illness either

Agree with some of the others. I've been around many panic attacks- and when you can't breathe, you can't type.
What you're experiencing is a heightened state of anxiety. Hope you get it sorted.

I will agree on that one!!!!
Mr p...i was thinking the same thing
hhhmmmmm . . . .
not sure i agree with the idea that a person having a panic attack is unfit to do a simple menial task, such as typing, therefore, someone who's typing cannot be having a panic attack? ((( i may have read the posts wrong? )))
in my experience, an effective method for dealing with a milder kind of panic attack, in it's early stages, is to divert your attention away from the panic attack, and it's causes. concentrate your attention on anything but your accelerating heart-rate, shortness of breath, mounting anxiety, trembling nausea, etc, cos panic attacks are self-perpetuating. the attack feeds itself, and spirals. posting words onto a screen may be as good a way as any other kind of diversionary tactic, especially when you can do it almost automatically? confused

I had Cognitive therapy for anxiety and they taught me breathing techniques but I was also on beta-blockers for palpitations. If u do get palpitations, then i would definately go see your doctor as my palpitations went straight away.
I still get anxious but not as bad and i still do the breathing techniques.
I've not read past this post but definately go see your doctor hun!
