Perhaps rather than protesting and demanding cheaper fuel ,we should be demanding better, cheaper public transport.

unless we all strike as one like the french weve no chance in reducing any of the taxes this goverment imposes on us,the cost of fuel isnt that high but the tax the goverment add to it makes it that way

but the french know how to strike whereas we havent a fucking clue...
eg bus drivers here go on strike the buses dont run...in france they go to work deliver the service but refuse to take the money from the public, it hits the bus companies not the good folk of france.
so i say blockade gordon browns and all his cronies drives not the petrol stations ...

And how would you think they would get extra people on the public transport system? Have you tried them in rush hour?
If only 10% more people stopped using their cars and went on the public transport system, it would grind to a halt. Unless you stagger ( no pun intended ) peoples travelling times to work, the transport is just not good enough. Who wants to stand in the pissing rain waiting for a bus on a cold winters morning? Like most people I want to be able to get into my 2.3 litre car, turn the heater or air con on and drive away. lol I except there is a price to pay for that convenience but...do not expect to have the mick taken out of me, and all the other road users.
Have you any idea how much Governments take from the car and van and lorry user in money? It is a vast, massive, outragious ammounts of money. Its about time we all got something back for all the money put in.
I hope when the fuel protests start that it will be ten times worse than the last one, as this daylight robbery has to stop, sooner rather than later. The feelings are growing and people will eventually run out of any patience that they had before. That day cannot come soon enough for me. cool

The new VED/RFL/Road Tax bands apply to vehicles registered 2001 onwards so anything registered pre 2001 remains the same AFAIK :-)

Cheers me dears
Sorry to be all doom and gloom guys but you may want to check out

Just sooooooo glad to be living in France....
I dont see how they can do it as CO2 emmisions weren't measured on vehicles pre 2001 dunno
All vehicles were PLG then and as such a mini was classed the same as a yank V8....

we are sick of all this crap with the fuel prices, be it gas for the house or diesel for the car. we have 2 cars. a 4x4 which we need for my business and our lifestyle. it's always covered in muck coz it's a working car not a bloody chelsey tractor!
we also have a small run about to try and keep costs down. it used to cost about £40 to fill the 4x4. spurs went to fill it the other weekend and put £60 in and the tank wasn't even full!!
thanksfully he is a man very good at using his hands and he's putting an extra tank on it so that we can run it on oil. you think it's bad just coz you pay out on fuel. we have been hit from all sides. we need to use barley. we were paying £60 a ton last year. it's now between £190 and £250 a ton. our friends are being put out of business because they can't afford to loose £24 per pig they rear or up to £150 per beast. one of our friends went to the funeral of an associate who had killed himself because he could no longer run his farm due to foot and mouth regulations that have put so many out of business.
when british gas announced profits of 5 billion what the hell about that justifies the increase to us?
i notice that my wages haven't gone up by the same % and that those on minimum wage have to wait till 6 months in to the new tax year to get a measely 20p pay rise per hour.
this country is crap and only looks after those who should be living somewhere else and sponging off their own country in stead of ours.

total sympathy and not a word of this , including the suicide ...lost on us, we have had similar experience here..

As petrol is increasing it seems by the day, and now stands at over £5 a gallon, what do others think of that and how do we combat the weekly rises?
The Government blames it on crude oil prices which nearly hit $120 a barrel. But is it not a fact also that we pay some of the highest rates of fuel duty in the Western world? Am not too sure what that is but have heard 65p in every pound is taken by the Government?

yes and no.......
doing some back research..... 6 yrs ago, quick quiz.... the price of the same barrel that cost 120 dollars now then cost what????
19 dollars.....
the price of petrol hasn't quite gone up 6 fold in that same time.. so a lot of thing have been squeezed...
people are stupid.
When will people realise that all of this is a instrument used to raise taxes.
The world is not going to nor is the climate going to change that much that we are all living in tree houses.
Just like the millenium bug when planes were to fall from the sky and cash machine to start chucking out free money its one big lie and because people are weak they just except tax after tax and in return you get less for your money.
Its all a complete load of rubbish fronted by al gore and because they are famous you believe it.
If they gave a shit about the planet they wouldnt waste millions bombing the fuck out of people in a far away place for the black gold.
