Seems like you managed to do what a lot of others who are members have yet to do plymgal......
Attend a munch.
How did none SH members get in to a munch?
I thought munches were by invite only via pm or similar, and in a 'closed' venue
May be someone can clarify the munch rules for me, on 'vanilla' attendance

Thank you

At the bottom of this thread you will find a brief but informative explanation hun..
i agree that a munch should be for Sh members only and I for one would not attend a munch where the event could be compromised by non-members.
maybe in that part of the country they have their own rules. After all they evolved from the celts. bolt

The site rules governing munches should still apply rolleyes
I take it that munches are completely "family friendly"?
Plymgal here mentions she brought her daughter & niece along, and in the London mini-munch discussion someone mentioned their daughter was there. Is this the norm (assuming I guess that said daughters & nieces weren't actually 16+ and part of the scene themselves!)?

Lets not get into mud slinging as not all are from that part of the country.

The age limit for any participation anywhere on this site is 18

I don't think the venue was closed to the general public, it wasn't at at the last Plymouth munch either. I didn't go to last night's so can't really say for sure.
Would have thought if Postie did make badges for them and obviously knew them and vouched for them they must be ok .. was surprised that Plymgal had only made one post though ... confused:

Thanks for that Steve.
(I was not at this munch)
So why was it this morning at approx as one of Mal's mentors I had a phone call from one of my newbiees who was at this munch, expressing their concern at how many 'vanilla' people were at this event.
Towards the end of this munch this person left as they were unable to tell SH munchers apart from the 'vanilla' people who got into the room, and this was one their first munches.
They are now very concerned about attending any more munches.
A 'very' odd situation.
Were people attending the munch made aware that it wasn't an exclusive event?? dunno

I was at the london mini-munch and there was no1 under 18 there and there were no mothers and daughters.
If a mention was made it was made in a joke sence. To behonest vanilla's should not come to munchs as it can compromise the event to media and unwelcome members.

Thats why munches are only open to SH members.......Thats the theory anyway..

A very odd situation indeed and one that it would be nice to nail down especially if members are actively encouraging it.
just to say devon 1 (the organiser one of the munch) said last night that any future devon munch will be at a booked venue.
and of course that is what you expect
remember this was only the second devon munch to be fair

If it wasnt in a private venue/room should it not have been termed as a social ?
This seemed to start off as a positive thread, but has now turned into something else
To start with, as was mentioned in all PM's, this meet was held in a pub venue, due to the difficulty in finding a suitable private room. A great night was had by all as far as I have been led to believe. It was a purely social event, and the response of Plymgal in a positive way, to me is a good thing, when others would gladly complain about this type of site.
I'm sure Dambuster, Jas, Tim, Vix, Marcuso etc, will pass on their points of view when they get home.
IcePie kindly provided the badges, he had some spare, so I believe someone passed them on to those interested, all in the spirit of fun biggrin
I didn't personally meet Plymgal, so cant comment on her, andno one was under 18, most people were in their 30's / 40's. This pub attracts more mature people, which is why it was chosen. Plymgal didn't bring her daughter and niece to the meet, as she was not invited, but was one of the vanilla's, and was out for a drink in the pub, along with other non site adults.
This was the second meet down here, and we don't have the member numbers of the larger Munches at these events, because of our location, but we still do our best to make them fun evenings.
This was a first munch for a few people, and as far as i am aware, they all had a good time.
I am sorry if anyone felt different, but as said this was held in a pub, and was a purely social event.
Non members of this site were not actively encouraged to join in the Meet, but a few asked what the Munch badges were for.
Nothing untoward happened last night, just people having a good time. As Jas and Tim are Moderators of this site, and were in attendance last night, I am sure they would not have allowed anything to happen that was not in accordance with the site rules.
To me, if we can put a positive face to those non members that have an interest, and then get a positive response, by someone wanting to join the site. Then surely that is a good thing.
I am not into slanging matches, or trying to score points, I'll leave that to others.
The next meet down here, will be in a private room, so those worried about vanilla's will not have a problem.

Steve I am going to stick my neck out now mate >>>
As you seem to be the only room op/mod on line are all the others in conflab/meeting about this.
It is unusual for so many mods to be silent over such a serious matter.
153 users on line and not a Mod showing.
Fred aka medic 1 (full title for this)
Its not always easy to keep none munch people out of munches anyway, when we went to the NW one the DJ had a couple of his m8s in the munch and later on in the night one was on the street inviting his m8 up to 'join the party'
But no harm was done and everyone had a good night, sometimes these things just happen smile

I have no idea Fred..
As a chatroom op I have no dealings whatsoever with forum matters...
My interest is purely as a member of SH and my Op status has no bearing or carries no weight as it were in the forum..

But they are totally avoidable! The previous venue were munches have been held are also accessible to non-members but security on the door has prevented this from happening!
It is totally avoidable,if you are letting vanilla's into a munch then you must think of the possible consequences. It doesn't matter how many people are booked to attend from 10 - 100 the organisers need to be responsible and protect the munchers!

I REALLY did not want to comment on this, but I feel like you were requesting our input.
We all should have known it was a public venue. It was in the PMs.
We were approached by the vanillas, not the other way round. I think they enjoyed themselves, because we were invited clubbing by two differrent people, and because of the lovely post, that opened this thread.

Steve your explanation is taken in good faith and with respect.
In no way did I think you may be involved. Sorry if I gave that impression.
But to a "long time" member I tend to read silence as well as between the lines. wink

Well it seems I have caused a stir here .. I have to hold my hand up and say it was me that phoned Sarah at this morning to tell her about the munch .. it was meant to be a friendly chat about how it went.
I did mention to her that I heard some of the regular SH members saying they were concerned at the number of 'Vanillas' (sorry but I think thats a terrible term) in the room as there did seem to be rather a lot at the end of the evening but I certainly didn't leave the Munch cause of them .. I left cause I had brought a friend with me who is a member of the group and she had fallen ill so I took her home .. thats the only reason I left.
I could see the potential for problems as a lot were local people coming to their regular pub and with it being Halloween I think more people were there than usual ... I think some of the regulars saw us as intrusive on their home patch but as Vix said we all tried to smooth things over and there certainly wasn't any trouble and as far as I can tell it was a good night.
I have spoken to Devon 1 and he says he has learnt lessons from this and any more Munches in Plymouth will be done differently. He is fine about it all and if you look you will see my name is on the Wigan list so I am not scared off by last nights experience.
I am sorry if I offend anyone with this post but I want to get the record straight before it all excelerates into a storm in a teacup.
