Publish and be Damned?

Over the last six months or so, I have written a large number of long, carefully worded posts on various subjects. Crafted over hours, days sometimes, they usually concern subjects that have worried or annoyed me to the point that I simply have to vent my spleen. :taz:
Donâ€™t bother looking for them though, without exception they were deleted before posting. rolleyes

Why?, well for one, I am one of those people cursed with the ability to see things from both sides. Once the heat of my anger / annoyance had died, Iâ€™m able to be impartial and objective. Without a strong opinion, whatâ€™s the point of a post? dunno

For another, I find that once I have written the post, the subject becomes much clearer and the need to have my opinion heard has passed. :doh:
So I content myself with the odd bit of banter and silliness from time to time. :silly:
The reason for this post,? I have just spent a couple of hourâ€™s half-writing another epic on a subject that has been annoying me for a while, it sits now in a word doc on my computer, awaiting either the delete button, or the final few sentences before posting.
So, how about you, am I the only one who does this, are you like me?
Or, do you just publish and be damned!

hunny, I say publish and be damned.....
there are a couple of posts that I think that I should have waited to post. and then my silliness has been picked up on and I feel a tit (not in a good way).
on the whole what I have said is relevent and important (to me) at the time and I wanna get it out there.. and I like "hearing" what others have to say... and I like the discussion that happens.
I want to hear what you have to say... (esp if it is "splendid I think that you are one hell of a horny chick- please come and have magnificant sex with my wife and I will see you after I have been to the pub" )

I often write something, then delete it. Often because others have said what I have been thinking, but put it in a far better way, than i could.
Or because, i think I have just written some more rubbish confused

Now, I want to know what your thinking of posting, so post it lol

how else does the forum (in terms of threads & contributions) survive? dunno

me, I often sit here, typing a 2 page rant/ oppinion/ whatever - and yes, sometimes the moment has gone by the time it comes to hitting the submit button - sometimes I'll delete it, other times i'll edit it so its more relevant to the last reply posted, and sometimes I hit submit and think bollox, I have something to say and i'm saying it lol

Rightly or wrongly.
If you've spent time and effort (or steam) typing a post, it means you have a contribution to make! how else do threads run for pages and pages, or several days? how else do we get discussion, different oppinions, other's viewpoints and equally, to know what makes us individual, makes us tick, makes us laugh, ponder or seething mad?

I'm a hoarder of unpublished posts like you. Sometimes I read 'em again and wonder what was I so hot under the collar for.
It's a good little safety valve that avoids much trouble - there are times when I feel like letting rip but allow discretion to be the better part of valour. Sometimes it's good to shout into the abyss.

im a publish and be damned disciple
i have posted thoughts, and feelings that are personal, maybe done when i am tired, but nevertheless, once i have hit submit, thats it.
I could delete anything im not happy with, but my stubbornness wont let me delete, the only time i will delete, is if i have personally offended someone, and would do so out of damage limitation.
Even if its detrimental to myself, if i have posted it, it stays, i published, so i will be damned

until you post it and start getting a response, you don't know if your right or just blowing air out of your arse. once you've posted it you at least get the chance to work through it and, maybe hear some views you never thought of and possibly have your point of view changed. then again you could just be right, you don't know till you've posted it

Publish, dammit!
I would think there is nothing wrong with a post that invokes further response and opinion...
the views of others may differ from yours, though as you say yourself.. having a balanced view, you may already be expecting some of that.. and it may be interesting to discover where those views come from..
...not only that...
..... we'd all have some mor interesting topics/debates etc to share our own opinions on...
I regret every post I make... including this one...

if you could see the inside of "My Documents", and my Recycle Bin . . . well it don't bear thinking about! :P
when it comes to contentious threads, i type everything up in Notepad first, save it, and then i often sit on it for hours? if i still feel the same way an hour or so later, well i might well edit it, in the light of more recent posts? if i still feel the same way an hour later, well it's a cut-n-paste into the "Post Reply" box and a take that you lot? how d'you like them apples? hhhhmmmmm? rolleyes

course, when i'm really fired up, it's a "Hit Post reply Button and rant my fookin' 'ead off and i'll worry about it in the morning?" kinda thing, but these days, i'm actually very, very, restrained? not so you'd notice at times, but the stuff i delete far outweighs the stuff i post?

I have to say that I know that I dont/wont get involved in certain threads for a number of reasons....
I find some of the subject matter too near my work and when you spend all day, week in week out challenging others on particular views/ideas/comments etc (all part of my job and flipping stressful) its nice to come in here and stick to the lighthearted posts.
That said, I do look at the majority of them and enjoy reading/hearing others views/rants/experiences etc! At times I have replied to the odd thread that *hit me* enough to reply, but deleted as I just want to leave some things at work and chill. Maybe thats my get out clause? Dont know.... confused

When I was at Uni, I took community studies and I wrote some stuff on virtual communities and compared it to the real world.... interesting enough, this particualar community crosses over between them both for some peeps... makes it even more interesting to me!
So, I would say please post..... lets celebrate and encourage difference of opinion/views/ideas and debate them, we can all learn from others and maybe *some* may change viewpoints because of it. I know Ive learnt a lot from this commmunity...... including tolerance!

I also have to say, id rather see the be damned approach, in the short time i have been visiting here, i have learned more about others, and myself, had viewpoints challenged, and changed, because of things that others have put, as much as i feel there is a place for the darkfire threads (aka pink and fluffy) there has to be the ones that actually stop and make us think, that have us having to actually think about what we are typing, and the opinions and viewpoints we are trying to express
