What is it & why do I want it?
I 'm lost as to the purpose of this function... dunno

I could understand this if it was import contacts from another swinging site - but mycatspace????......Someone's lost the plot!!

Odd. Why wouldn't I just email a few select people the web address and what my nick is? Much safer than risking importing Granny Jenkins and my son's school receptionist (for instance).

Can't say as I fully understand the ins and outs of it just yet Gufuncouple, but it would seem it works like this . . . .
If you had an email address that you ((( had hopefully only ever ))) used purely for swinging purposes, and if you had over a period of time built up a number of email addresses in your contacts book, through other websites, MSN, etc, and if they didn't already know that SH as a website exists, or that you're a member of it, and if you thought that they might like to be members of a website they had so far managed never to have heard of in all their swinging days, then you could choose to invite some of those contacts, at which point SH would send them a spam email in your name that looks a lot like this . . .

Serious comments now on :: Referrals
- where did this come from ?
- was it mentioned in the last SH Newsletter a few weeks ago ?
- why is there no FAQ section/document for it (under :: support) ?
- where's the customary announcement on our 'home' page ?
- if testers for the new Chat (see Chatroom Lounge forum) are needed, was there a similar 'plea' for :: Referrals testers ?
- we note "Select the checkbox next to the addresses you wish to to refer.", Will there be a confirmation page (usual are you sure Y/N), like they had to add on Shrep ?
- will existing members get a renewal discount, or 'x' number of months free membership based on new members introduced ?

Why should it be mentioned in the newsletter?
FAQ, I am sure it is coming, when ADMIN are ready.
Why should ADMIN put it on the home page?
I am sure it will be tweeked with as and if ADMIN deem it necessary.

Its hardly worth a comment confused

??: Think this will be one of SH's least used features EVER. Personally I would never use this and can only see very small opportunity's where people might use it.
Already tiny childish brains like mine are working on ways of getting SH to spam my entire company with invites from an annonymous email :giggle: Just so I can go into to work and talk about it knowing it was mwa :smug:

While Admin obviously has a perfect right to add anything to the site, paying members also have a perfect right to question and comment as Admin is providing a service, a very good service admittedly, in return for payment. While it is clear what's in it for Admin with a referral system, it is not clear what's in it for the members, if in fact there is anything in it for them.
Any other referral scheme I've seen has a benefit for both sides, this appears not to. In fact there appears only to be a danger of accidentally inviting someone to the site that you don't mean to. The tone of your reply quoted above gives the impression that you feel questioning or commenting on site features, or perhaps on Admins decisions on how to add them, is somehow wrong. I hope you will correct me if I am wrong to think that, as my belief is that questions, comments and constructive criticism can only improve the site for everyone, owners and members alike.

I can't actually think of a good reason to put a referral system such as this on a swingers site. confused

I don't know about everyone else but I'd imagine most of us spend a great deal of effort in maintaining our privacy when it comes to our extra hobbies. To put a referral system on the likes of Facebook is fine and dandy... no-one really expects any consequences of being found out that you have a Facebook profile but the implications of your family, vanilla friends, work colleagues finding out about your swinging life are probably huge.
To put a referral system on a swinging site to me seems like it's not been very well thought out. In my view, it all goes back to the non-swinging thing. I'm sure Admin are only trying to provide the best service they possibly can for the members but when you don't partake fully in something I'm not sure you can fully understand it or the implications. What do you do if your boss finds out you enjoy the odd group session or taking saucy photos of yourself and brings it up at the next board meeting? What if your contract restricts you from this sort of activity and it needs to be kept secret? Common sense would tell me that a service like this on a swinging site is pretty pointless.

I quite agree DG.
Jumping on the facebook bandwagon is easy and cheap and obvious and has few advantages.
Thinking about what your customers want and then delivering it is difficult, expensive and requires hard work and deep thought and delivers happy cutomers and bigger profits.
Too many networking sites see the facebook model and think that because it's successful it must be the way forward. In essence it isn't.
