people used to be frightened of skinheads with its hooded just moved on.
it seems to me kids today are damned either way if they fail to achieve academically they're useless hoodie wasters,if on the other hand they work hard and pass their exams these results are worthless as exams today are soooooooooo 't it about time we gave the poor sods an even break.
There's been more than a few mentions of lack of respect, isn't this a two way street ? there seems to little respect for any young people coming from their accusers.
There's an old saying that goes "you reap what you sow",if the youth of today are wasters and hoodlums it's for one reason and one reason alone..WE made them that way....all of us not just the parents or the teachers,we as a society mould and shape our it's time some of us accepted responsibility and started to look for what we're doing wrong rather than just condemning a whole generation.

Stagger you are so right!
But people are happy to point blame at children without looking at the bigger picture, they can point their fingers then carry on thinking I have done right by mine so it isnt my problem.
We all have to realise this is a spiral of events over many years well before these children were born, society has made them this way.
There are a lot of factors as to how is has ended up this way, it isnt just black and white.
Also a lot seem to forget we were all children once upon a time, playing in the street, hanging about, annoying people just because we were kids.
I recall my child hood.
Roaming over large areas, vandalizing trees for conkers, making bows and arrows. Spending hours doing god knows what. Sailing on the river, snow ball fight, coming home frozen.
Did I turn out bad?
That depends who you ask!
Come to think of it, was I a bad kid? Depends who you ask.

Normal lol and if not then im not normal either! come to think of it i dont think i ever was normal wink
The way I see it is that neither side of this argument is truly right.
One thing that doesn't appear to have been brought to the discussion, that thing being "perception".
One side is saying that the kids have nothing to look forward to, whereas the other side is saying that they have more things to look forward to than ever before. Both are right, and both are wrong.
Based on the evidence of my own eyes with bringing up 2 girls and seeing their mates (male and female) the single biggest thing I see is that teenagers do not see things as adults see them. The fact that there is plenty out there for them is inconsequential if they can't see that. If they truly believe that there is nothing in the future for them then they will act accordingly. Most teenagers are the centre of their own universes and as such are in capable of seeing things from others' PoV. This is the child in them and in most cases the spoilt child.
This current generation of kids are the most spoilt in history. They are used to having everything given them, everything being done for them then all of a sudden they become a separate species. Neither child nor adult, but with the emotions and sensibilities of both.
There is no right answer because every kid is different so will require a different response, but ultimately if they believe there is nothing for them in the future then that is how they will behave regardless of what is or isn't the truth.

whilst I can do nothing but agree it seems to me the debate here is about perception OUR perception of modern youth and has therefore inevitably degenerated into sweeping generalizations.
P.S. I was a right bolshy little shit as a teenager .....plus ca change (or something like that )
we have 2 teenage boys aged 16 n 18 both of which have done jobs since they were 13 starting with paper rounds then kitchen work right upto coming to work with me in a hairdressing salon anythin to earn thier own dosh
both also go to cadets and have attended youth clubs and school clubs and achieved so far silver D of E all of thier own free will never been pushed by us to do anything just encouraged when they decided on any path they chose
oldest now holds down 2 jobs despite suffering long term illness and the youngest is doing A levels
maybe we are just lucky they fell in with the "right crowd" but i think it is just the pure fact they are generally good kids as are the majority of our countries teenagers and as for them not having a future wat a load of tosh, i remember bein told when i was a kid there was no future for me and the youth of my day and that was deffo a load of tosh
things never change kids r kids and adults r moany ole bastards that just love moanin  and lookin down on kids simple as
the other week i read a letter in our local rag moaning bout kids hanging round the local shop causing trouble being a menace to the local comunity making people worried about any trips to the shop they had to make, but what made this letter so interesting was the fact is was a copy of a letter originally sent to said local rag in the 1930's so like i said nothin changes kids r kids n adults r moany old bastards lol

But if all parents took the responsibility of being parents seriously and did do right by their children then we wouldn't be having this debate would we....
Its enough of a task looking after your own kids without having to worry about anyone elses....
