Ive been hearing all morning on radio and TV thats it's St George's Day today and why dont the English celebrate it like... such at St Patricks day?
It got me thinking that its not advertised enough so maybe the radio and TV stations should try promoting instead or just asking the question, maybe run phone in's as to what people are doing to celebrate which then may inspire others to celebrate it also.
Also you would think that as a country with a reputation of drinkers and party goers the pubs/clubs would try and promote it to get more people in.
I personally dont celebrate any saints days and very rarely drink so I wont be celebrating.
So is anyone out there celebrating and what are you doing to celebrate St Georges day?
happy st georges day

St Georges day is the day, traditionally, that you pick dandelion heads to make dandelion wine...
There was a St George's Day parade in Manchester city centre at the weekend, same as there is for St Patrick's day...
There will be St Georges day parades in several towns this weekend with marching bands and flags. I counted 12 "George" flags on my short journey to work this morning. We just seem to celebrate it quietly and not use it as an excuse for a piss up.
Removing my imported clothing after eating an English Bramly Apple for breakfast, before daubing myself in the cross of Saint G and having a patriotic stroll around the estate today did me no favours what so ever.
And it was chilly
I shan't be doing it again that's for sure.

they dont celebrate this day in the schools here locally. My daughter works in a nursery where they do celebrate it just thought though that they celebrate other nationalities days so why not our own
They problem is that the Cross of St. George has been hi-jacked by the NF/BNP and if anybody celebrates being 'English', they're lumped in with that lot of knuckle-draggers.
St Patrick's day is not so much a national day for the Irish, it's more about a day to celebrate the Guinness Marketing Dept. They have a St. Patricks day parade in Brum every year and it's full of people who've never been further west than Rhyl.
As for the West Bromwich St George's day parade mentioned earlier, the council tried to stop it last year, but the residents caused a rumpus and the council relented and let it go ahead. I used to live about 5 minutes away from it's starting point. I'm not sure about this year, as I moved areas.
