Swinging Attrition

lol Mr Powers, I know you weren't - but you shouldn't be so cheeky!
So now I can get all dreamy about bluexxx, Mr-Powers, Angel Chat, bloke2005........ and FreckledBird :smug:

I'm still here, and I've been here longer than most.
As for going mad tho..................hmmm....................no comment biggrin

All this talk about "oldies" and looking at some other peoples' joining dates in comparison to ours is starting to make us feel a bit ancient!!! We've been members of SH since 2003, but have only started joining in with the forum chat for a couple of years.
We started swinging because we love sex - with each other as well as with other people. We don't belong to any groups, clubs or "circles" - for us swinging is a fun (and cheap!) hobby which we like to participate in with new people. Does a philatelist only collect a few stamps??!!
Are we shallow or what??!!

Well said.... and seconded (my husband not yours)

I think forum posting sometimes is a habit, if you get into it you post lots and build up a feeling for the other regular posters. Most people though at one time or another get out of the habit, at least for a while, as there are other things in their lives that are more important or they no longer get the same enjoyment out of it that they did.
It is not always that easy to walk back in 6 months down the line and re-join the threads and the banter, the names have changed and it takes quite a bit of work to get back into the habit.
It doesn't necessarily mean people have stopped swinging, just that they use other places or other methods. Quite a few of the people who were around some time ago still drop in and keep an eye on things. cool

Quite right and I wouldn't disagree with most of the other reasons given either.
I wouldn't call it attrition but churn. The cadre of active posters changes constantly and as Roger says, if you leave it fer a bit you've lost ground to make up.
Stay away for 3 months and most (apart from the old farts) will think 'Who the fluck's this?'
.
OMG ...................... its westerross now ........................ I have died and gone to heaven!

Well, I still lurk and pop in once in a while to see what's going on in the forums but post once every sixth or seventh blue moon, same as ever.
And I still haven't quite sorted out how to word an ad and actually use this site for what most of it is designed for either, but I am actually thinking about it at (very) long last..

Look at an older thread, say eight months old and the number of names posting then, that are not posting much now, is surprising. Look at a thread from fourteen months ago and I barely recognise one name in twenty, from two and a half years ago and I hardly recognise anyone.

I just checked my first post in THE CAFE in June 2006. The thread ran to 3 pages. It was filled with comments and advice from all the usual suspects. biggrin
So thank you to those people whop made me so welcome and waited a few weeks before flaming me. :D

This is turning into an 'oldies' thread!

Ooooh can I just shimmy in here between all you oldies and let you show me the "ropes" ? :rose:

You forgot "new to this", "dipping our toes", and "what is a munch?" lol
Well, I've been popping in on an infrequent basis since December 2003. Odd thing: I'm not a swinger. But, I've met some grand folk here, read some of the funniest things ever written, gained some life-long friends...pretty much a Vanilla Sunrise at a time when most are contemplating sunsets. I even tried to close my account but , like my mortgage, it refuses to die. So, I disappeared into the old fogey's sunset, with my mate Alexandra, and have enrolled on a course which will enable me to appreciate the finer points of Ovaltine. Alex and I have rented a beach hut from which we watch things roll on like a Mobius Loop. There is nothing new under the sun and so I have settled for one of the oldest things: friendship. I have realised that the biggest buzz is often accompanied by the biggest sting, so, I've settled for comfort and companionship. Mind you, re-reading this I suspect I might have overdone it: anyone for a party?
    Atri!! wave
Gawd I have missed you kiss
Well, you can knock me down with a Noosha Fox single! Welcome back Arti, it's great to see you dropping in. There's nobody more missed among the "old" regulars than you are!
:bounce:
Just giving this a *bump* just in case it disappears onto page 2 before some of the "oldies" spot a message from a fondly-remembered ex-regular who popped his head round the door late last night.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
See above
Well Well, Artificer, we have never rubbed shoulders I’m afraid, you were around a bit before my time but I have read some of your old posts and much of the poetry thread has your stamp firmly on it.
Stick around and write some more, its as much about friendship in here as it always was.
biggrin

yup! that would be me roger! ;) i keep on typing posts up, but these days i end up hitting the back button more often than not. kind of out of the habit, don't have the same need to post anymore, and don't often have much to say that's actually worth reading anyways? confused oh well! ;)
stormwalker, i reckon it's lots of reasons.
there are those who join up thinking it's all rampant hardcore sex and mass orgies 24/7, and eventually wander off feeling cheated when they discover it's not really like that. there are those who dip their toes, decide swinging's fraught with complications that they didn't consider, and a whole lot harder in reality than it is in imagination, and leave it at that now they've satisfied their curiousity. there's those who still frequent the site regularly, but the excitement of belonging, and the need to post to establish themselves and be part of things has mellowed to the point where they're content to take a back seat, and just wander through now and then to keep up to date with things. then there are those who have a pretty damn active swinging lifestyle, that now exists independently of any particular website, and tend to use the site more for munches and social get-togethers than yer actual swinging, or on-line banter, and bollox.
i reckon there's a good few 'oldies' still lurking about here and there. it's kinda hard to give it up altogether, even if you try! ain't it arti? :P
neil x x x ;)
Oh I do miss Arti's splendidly entertaining and moving poetry. *sigh*
Generally sites like this, can be very fluid, people come and go, but that doesn't mean that they have stopped swinging...
We used to post in here a lot, but our circumstances have changed, and now I'm the only one that uses the computer, and like most people I have various interests... bottom line is I only post in the cafe, when I think I might have something to add, but I do drop by daily, and we also still post quite regularly in LMU when we are arranging meets.
