Mal
(which is text speak for horny bastard!)
Judy,
I'm sure I've seen in a bookshop somewhere a small dictionary of txt spk, next time I find one do you want me to buy it for you?
Judy, I quite agree. I hate reading adverts in text speak, & I find it very difficult to take seriously a post written in such a way.
Another thing that annoys me even more is use of capitals, which for most users of the Internet means SHOUTING. So for those who use capitals, PLEASE DON'T SHOUT!!!!!!!!!!!! mad :x :x
An advert witten in capitals may be crying out for someone exactly like me, with some gorgeous lady wanting to shag my brains out, but I certainly wouldn't read it. evil
And by the way, Little Gem, you can add smackbottom to all the other things I'd like to do to you if we ever meet :P :P :P .
Judy, I found this last week. It might be just what you need!

wots wiv all dis text talk den some peeps thinks its gr8 and some dont , but its part of life now as almost evry1 has a mob and its easier to type in text talk while texting .
but it seems to be part of everyday life now personally i dont think its to bad its de way of de world now im afraid things move on and this is one example of those tings moving along .
Maybe us fuddy-duddies like normal speech/type??

personally I don't even reply to text messages written like that, it's lazy and hard to read. not to mention the effect it's having on young people's ability to spell. And it has nothing to do with message length, because most texts are nowhere near the limit of message size. It's not for speed either, it takes longer to write m8 than it does mate on a phone, especially with predictive text, AND you don't have to sit there working out whick &*^$&^%$& letters to remove/replace!!!
in case you are still wondering, I HATE text speak (or txt spk for those still lagging behind)
and I will personally hunt down and SHOOT anyone who sends me a PM with this kind of language in it, apart of course from the load I'm going to recieve because of this post, I'm sure they'll all be very funny, thanks evil
Rant off, chocolate loaded and ready to eat...
*EDIT* just so we're clear, I don't own a gun, don't know where to get one, and wouldn't really hurt anyone....even people who txt spk
HI U PPL. HOW RU ALL NOW? :P

Ooooo all this talk of spanking sends me into a lovely little day dream! KCKat is so right when she says I will enjoy this punishment far too much! ;)
 Ooo, the thoughts, I might have to have a little lie down... at this point a little help may be required :P
I do find the shouting and the text talk soooo infuriating it is untrue. I can type full words much quicker than it takes me to work out how to abreviate the words correctly so they can be kind of half translated.
Translatation of above text talk =
"Mal  I'm sure I could take at least 10 lashes from him at blues next party! ;)"
Gem. x -outrageous flirt and supporter of the Judy campaign to keep text speak for mobiles only ;)
I have to say Little Gem is a ........ Gem? Three lines of txt spk and she's elicited a shag, a spanking and an offer ( I think) - Masterful or is that mistressful??
I agree with Judy - text speak is a curse of the modern age and should be kept firmly in its place.
I love how predictive text speak has now invaded my real life. I now tell people to Dual off or don't ebony about and stop being an aunt!

Love it!
I started off thinking predictive texting was really great until I accidentally turned on for absobluddylootely everything on my phone. It was coming up with names of people I didn't even know from me address book FFS. It is now firmly turned off never to ouut-guess me again. I got the bastard.
Predictive text is all very well but how often does it have a problem with simple words that you end up having to rekey 3 times before resorting to the old method

Now above is a typical example of what I am referring to. We spend absolutely thousands of pounds per head educating people to a certain standard in English. The English language was at one time respected all over the world. guy4fun you are entirely missing the point here, I also have a mobile phone, two in fact and I understand the usefulness of text talk. Although I don't use text talk personally I do text people however its rare as I would much prefer to pay the extra few pence and indulge in a proper conversation. I am really referring to situations other than mobiles / chat-rooms, read the original first post again and you will see this point. In text messaging there is a useful need for it, however on here there is not. As I have already said, in my opinion it tells me all sorts of things about the person using it, none of it positive other than in the chat room and on mobile phones. The other problem with this text talk is its harder to read in some cases.
Judy

It's a joke god lighten up , text talk as you put it only happens in typed communication and not in verbal converstaions and it is the "modern" way of communicating via mobile phones as you probably know .
And as for paying extra for texting with the correct grammar as you mentioned above thats rubbish as it is a standard charge for sending text messages with the correct grammar or in text talk .
as i mentioned earlier it is a way of the world now and everyone does this so get with the times .
i bet lots of previous posts include these text talks and chatroom talk as well so go and read all them too for mistakes if your bored .
Judy didn't say that to text with correct grammar was more expensive, she said she would rather 'speak' with someone , for the extra pennies it costs.
If you read back on the thread you will see that not only are there quite a few people who find it pointless to text talk in this forum, there are also some who genuinely find it difficult to understand. This is not the first thread to ask people to type in proper English, so people who use text talk may well find themselves in a minority on this forum and less likely to get responses to their posts.
Speaking for myself, I would rather read and type a post in the forum in correct English, than 'get with the times' and use text talk. I do, however, use the abbreviations such as OMG and LOL, PMSL sometimes - these are probably the ones that a lot of people know. I think others will agree with that.

Am I the only person in the world who actually bothers to spell long words out in full when texting?

Nope. I do that as well.

Actually, if you want a language that "everyone does", then that language is French. We're all supposed to be taught French at school so maybe we should start talking French on the forum. Je voudrais trois bananes and that's the limit of my French, I'm afraid. ne1 gt frch-nglsh dic?

i think everyone or the majority of the world "does spanish" and not "french" as you say is it a myth that the majority speak spanish or i could be wrong its probably french .
As for being taught french at school i was taught spainish and italian as well as the most popular foreing language that "everyone" does french .
I now have this vision of the whole of south america talking french . wink
Funny some people find these text abbrivations new, have being using most of them for years in my other hobby Ham radio, In fact some of the abbrivations are lifted directly from Morse code abbrivations, especially de
But I agree with judy, stick to Plain english here, it's far easier to understand
I am not used to txt, but I have used it for messaging, which is what its designed for. For simple functionality its fine.
Never had a problem with text speak for the simple reason that if I see it I ignore it....
I see it in the photo ads. and immediately click "back".....
I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but text speak to me is lazy, and if you really want to attract the attention of an intelligent and articulate Gent or Lady as it says in your ad., then text-speak is not going to recommend you to said person.
A lot of modern words & phrases also put me off:
Bling
Whatever
Biatch...
To the max
Fone
And a whole host of others which our less than articulate friends over the Pond have inflicted upon us....
Sorry for the rant!
Rick
