OK so Wunderhorse has a thing about race and a somewhat florid posting style. Lets not ignore the main issue; a register is being launched where a one-sided view about people's character is made available to employers. This can include personal details like NI number, addresses, telephone numbers and photographs, and those listed will not know they have been included.
As there is no public access to this register, the only way to find out if you are on it is to write to the 'data controller' with sufficient detail to ensure that you are identifiable as a person entitled to ask. If you are listed, the only way to know what data is held is to pay for it. To me and I hope to any fair-minded person, that is unjust.
But it is just ANOTHER database, not the only one. The only thing that sets it apart is that it is an employers database. In fact, just ANOTHER employers database. It goes along with all the data held on you by banks, building socs and everyone else you shop/bank/wank with. Your bank or credit card issuer knows where you shop and how much you spend. Your mobile phone provider knows where you are at just about any time (or your phone, except when you lose it in which case they know but won't tell you). This country is agog with people and organisations who know more about you and your habits than you know about yourself. Get used to it, it's only going to get worse. The gov may well lose your data, but they only lose it to other people they never lose it completely, they're just spreading it around a bit....like jam in fact.
As for racism...who cares...the racism card is played too much now in my opinion, and far too many people think that any racially-inclined comment is racism. In many cases it is just a lack of sensitivity and not racism. But hey, if you don't agree with the message you can always shoot the messenger.
