I know that quite a few of the people that have posted in this thread have been staunch supporters and defenders of "newbies" and flamers of the "hang the newbie" brigade.
Darkfire in particular. And I thank her for that.
What I would say tho' is that a twat is a twat and an arse is an arse; but one man's twat is another man's arse.
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition a new member to read every thread or every page in a 30 page thread.
Personally, I think the search button is more of an arse than a friend.
But - I do agree with the pub table analogy. If a total stranger walked in and sat down at a table where I was sat with half a dozen people I knew well, I would expect them to show a little courtesy and respect for the "community" of the group.
And if the group had just spent two hours discussing the merits of circumcision, pubic shaving or the joys of anal sex, the new guy should understand their reluctance to do so again so quickly. Better to wait until he can ear-hole someone at the bar and ask again quietly and unobstrusively - A little like a PM maybe? Rather than fuelling a separate, heated debate about whether or not they have been made to feel welcome.
I think this thread is more about what we do want, rather than what we don't and I thank Darkfire for starting it and the others for their contributions :thumbup:

Now whilst I agree that we need new people to keep the forums alive and I try to be friendly to most newbies, I'm here to have fun at the end of the day and not here just to babysit people.

Thanks for all the views much appreciated. That last paragraph above sums it up well for me. I guess the other hobby site at which I post is a total different kettle of fish to this but we do baby sit the newbies because no matter how dumb thier first question is they have shown a general interest. Besides that some of the stuff they may need to know is technical and they need pointing to the right guide and then after maybe help understanding it.

I guess the other hobby site at which I post is a total different kettle of fish to this but we do baby sit the newbies because no matter how dumb thier first question is they have shown a general interest.

the big difference being - this isnt a 'hobby site' iits a lifetsyle site. There are those who think this is a sex site - and to some extent it is - but its those who understand, or truly want to understand it that you'll find are welcomed with open arms. Those who come for a nosey, to stare and gawp at what happens in other people's sex lives, or come here for a quick shag because they think that's what swinging is about, are not. I have no time for people who just have a 'general interest' unless they have a basic understanding or are at least here looking to gain one. Where that's the case, you'll find I'll / we'll bend over backwards to give someone support.

Besides that some of the stuff they may need to know is technical and they need pointing to the right guide and then after maybe help understanding it.

help is here in abundance, as is support & advice to those who show a genuine interest - as you yourselves found out with your social night. Sometimes, just sometimes people have to give a little in order to get back in return.
I remember talking to others here in a very similar tone as you're using now, when I was new to the site - I see the way some newbies 'ask' for help or post questions, as a way of breaking the ice, as a way of striking up conversation. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong - but please dont think the help and support isnt there just cos someone's a 'noob'.

To be honest I like a lot of comedy I like it dark sarcastic and ironic and it comes across in the way I post. I do apologise as this does not always come over very well in written format. If you review the posts I have written here (minus the early ones from Mrs Tweeky) you will see I am here for the forum and general fun of being here. I will admit that I can be a bit of a dog with a bone at times thats just me I cant change it but I have learnt to resist it better than I did in the past.
Anyway those of you who may meet me (am planning on going to the Wigan munch with Mrs Tweeky) will find I am very approachable, friendly and a good laugh. If I occasionaly do go off on one in the forum just :kick: me sometimes I need a poke

to bring me back into reality. I am enjoying my time here biggrin

I must just learn to focus on the posatives and remind myself that I cant change everything to the way I would like it in a perfect world. Maybe I am a bit of a control freak? scary.
