Ok I have had this constant hiss and high pitched ringing in my left ear for two months solid now. mad
I have seen a specialist and he said that it could well be perminent.... I am having trouble consentrating, sleeping, and I get frustrated when it is the first thing I hear in the morning.
I just want some quiet..... I never appreciated the quiet times before this it is horrid
Anyone else get this and how have they dealt with it.
It's a nasty thing to have and very underated as a serious and debilitating condition. I'm afraid I don't know much about this condition but I had a friend who suffered with it and he had terrible problems at night while he was in bed. I suggested he listened to some ambient music on his headphones and he did say it worked.
Sorry, it's not much but worth a try hunni. There are loads of ambient tracks you could download such as the stuff therapists use ( nature sounds etc )

I could administer a carefully aimed Jags slap - that would help??
Maybe not??

I know it's nasty and really hard to control so you have my sympathy - really. I've got a lamp which (amongst other things) plays white noise which cancels out extraneous noise and enables peaceful sleep. I'll PM you the details.
biggrin
lol I would give a Jags slap a try.....
I dreampt of peace and quiet while I was sleeping last night... I woke up to the loud hiss and bloody ringing again breaking the dream and it pissed me off all day!! mad
That and the garage has had my car now for four weeks!!! 7 weeks in total since I bouht it five months ago
Martin, hun your suposed to take the Bluetooth thing out your ear when you get out the car wink
Seriously, I know it can be very annoying and drive you totally mad, hope it gets better and Im sure the Jags slap would help lol
Hi
Thankfully I haven't suffered from this but I hope you find a way of dealing with it or curing it soon.
Take care x

Well if you will buy a Fiat :lol2: bolt
Seriously though I suffer with what I term as a mild form of it. I say mild as I have got used to the constant noise... I cant explain what the noise it but it's always there :lol2:
You need to borrow our kids for a while Martin, it helps to develop selective hearing and them you are able to ignore it wink :lol2: kiss
Martin_M, its due to not enough shagging! lol
Jeez, admin on a swingers site and you haven't managed to sort the problem out!! wink
Seriously, I hope you get better soon. I can only imagine how bloody annoying it must be confused

deep relaxation - through yoga or meditation generally can help you develop the ability to block it out - similar to what Shireen describes as selective hearing, and it will certainly help you sleep.
I *think* Ginko biloba is a herbal aid - but check that with your specialist/ GP first wink
No no Darkfire.... Martin needs to borrow the children to develop the ability to block out noise perfectly wink innocent

Tinnitus is a nasty thing :scared:
I remember getting a job on a tour once because the previously selected pianist suddenly developed tinnitus. Every musician's nightmare.
Try large quantities of brandy or good malt whisky. Doesn't actually cure it, I am afraid - but it doesn't half take your mind off it! lol
Will
I get it quite often but not that bad..
I don't think this would work for you Martin as yours would be hell of a lot worst than i get but all i do is hold my nose then blow hard until i feel my ears pop, works for me biggrin
Warning... Don't blow to hard or you could result in bursting your ear drums or maybe even making your head explode
Tony wink
Well tanks for all the ideas, I am going to try a combination of the above by shagging more often while listening to sounds of the jungle to try and block it out.
biggrin

sorry I couldn't resist :giggle:
I had the dreaded T after a tour as a drummer! Needless to say I invested in some bespoke ear plugs and have never subjected my ears to that level of noise again.
The time I most found difficult was when I was trying to get to sleep, what did help (apart from having too much to drink) was wearing in-ear headphones and listening to music at a very low volume, just enough to drown out the Tinnituss.
It has been suggested that distraction techniques are the best way forward, as you know what it's like, the more you pay attention to it the louder it seems to get and then the more you pay attention to it!
I hope you find some peace very soon.
:rose:
Tinnitus is sometimes a side effect of medicines you are taking - . Check the PILs (prescription information leaflets) carefully to see if tinnitus is listed as a side effect, then if you spot the one, ask your GP to alter the medication.
I suffer from it as well.....
Years of working in noisy workshops and damage was done before we got heavily into health and safety(not that its that prevolant in the motor trade anyway)..
Cant affer any suggestions really as I have learned to live with it and it rarely causes me to lose sleep....
as everyone else has put a silly thing first i'd say move away from the church next however i get it at times, can be bloody suicidal if you get it bad, listening to music with earphones helps if you wanna sleep but other than that i try to tell my mind to ignore it , bit like mind over matter. the mind is a powerful tool like some use it to have operations without anesthetic etc i use mine to ignore the whistling noises etc,

:giggle:
nope but slap, bluetooth, fiat, lack of shaggin etc is that not injecting humour into the thread?
Hi Martin/Steve
I work as a communicator for the Deaf so I come across a lot of people that suffer with Tinnitus in my every day working life.
I have been looking up some of the web sites that I use becasue I came across some equipment that can help suffers.
I hope this can help the both of you as I know how bloody annoying tinnitus can be.
If you want anymore information let me know and Ill see what I can find out for you guys
I remember a pal of mine a few years ago had suffered for years... same sort of thing, he had kind of got used to it then I took him on a deep dive in a wreck of the coast of Scotland... The point is that after the dive his hearing had sorted itself out, he kept asking us to repeat things as he thought it strange everything was so quiet... truth is he just lost the tinnitus and wasn't used to things being so silent..
remember every 10 metres down is the same as 1000 metres up.. big pressure difference. Maybe worth (a well organised) try?
Mike
I don't really know what to say but I can only imagine how hard it must be living with it, day by day banghead I hope one day they are able to do something to put you out of your misery smile
biggrin Thanks all, I hve got some really good ideas from here and it is aways nice to know that "we are not alone".
I had my MRI scan today to make sure it is not being caused by anything nasty, The MRI was so noisy that my Tinnitus got worse while I was trying to lye still in something the size of a small coffin. yuuuuk So noisy that they were both ringing rather than just the normal left one. mad
Suffered with tinitus for summint like 15 years or more now, trust me you get used to it, just occasinally it gets into your head like a bad tune and it drives you batty, but for the most part you just get used to it.
No experience of it here but I read somewhere that a good hypnotherapist can help you block it out.
Hope it turns out all right for you.
I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember. I was really surprised as a kid that everyone didn't have noises in their heads all the time. I'm in my 40's now, and seems to have got worse recently. I can't really understand people if there is other noise going on, so when i go to noisy pubs or clubs, I just sit and smile at people because I haven't got a clue what they are saying.
Most of the time it is just like high-pitched white noise, which varies in intensity, then there is the high note that joins in too sometimes.
I have learned to live with it, but it does get annoying occasionally.
This hasn't really helped has it, sorry.......
x
I remember seeing someithing in TV about tinnitus a couple of years ago. Badically it went like this. There are many causes of tinnitus, including partial deafness, damage and drugs. But one common cause is the brain starts to notice the noise that all of us are exposed to - the blood flowing, the heart beating and our breathing. For most people the brain filters it out.
One treatment they suggested was for a qualified person to play different sounds into your ears until you found one that was the same as you tinitius. Becasue it was from outside you gradually tune it out. As the tinnitus sounds the same that is tuned out at the same time.
This doesn't work if it is caused by damage though.
((((hugs))))
Yep.......I have it and have had for 4 years. It does get easier to live with as you get used to it - depending on the volume it is that day.
What I was told, and it does help, is to listen to something constantly, like having a radio on low in the background when going to bed, having the tv in the background when sitting about.
It is a real pain at times though and can drive you crazy.
