Hi all, I thought I should try posting my first topic. I would like to try and make a top 20 list (or a bigger list if people have loads of suggestions) of good erotic films, or films that have turned you on, that are not porn. My nominees are: Secretary by Steven Shainberg Just because it is so incredibly beautifully made, with great characters. Tierra by Julo Medem Maybe more of a love story than an erotic film. Sex and Lucia by Julio Medem Pure beauty… Preaching to the Perverted by Stuart Urban I love this film for taking up some important isuses and for having loads of latex Sex, Lies, and Videotape by Steven Soderbergh I saw it around 13 years ago, but it is stuck to my brain… Urotsukidoji, Legend of the Overfiend by Hideki Takayama Highly disturbing, but I love it Hellraiser by Clive Barker You herd right, I don’t know why but most of these films have a certain effect, I think I have a thing for evil Demon Women. Please tell us your favourites?
Hi there Bsubverted - check out this link to a topic I posted some time ago - if it is erotic films without too much hard core and wonderful nipples, then......... http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/65317.html ENJOY....................................!!
Well done de sade that is exactly how I believed he perceived the post and by the way White Mischief- so good as to be remarkable.
Quote by de_sade So glad you asked about the top 20 erotic films rather than the top 20 sex films. Pornography and eroticism often get confused, but if I am right I think your question relates to films which have enabled you to reach a certain pinnacle of heightened sensual awareness because the powerful scenes, images, setting has altered your mood sufficiently. So not just sexual imagery but perhaps imagery that evokes a sensual or sexual response. If so, here are my suggestions... Equus Titus Andronicus Coppola's Dracula Cat people White Mischief Boxing Helena The Hunger Bound Altered States V for Vendetta To name but a few... Might come back to this thread... De_sade
I have a spanner and I'm going to throw it in the works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of the older "porn" now has reached "art/erotica/cult" status, such as the films with mary-millington, debbie does xxxxx, confessions of xxxxxx, et. al. At the time they were considered "porn" but are now not.... Even the Ben-dover films now hold status as being the groundbreaking "gonzo" movies even though "home/self shot" pornos had been on the market since VHS and cheap(ish) cams became publically available in the late 80's which opened up a huge cheap "swappers" market. "rubenesqe" paintings were the porn of the day..... so were a lot of other nude paintings, now they sell for thousands. The only difference between porn and art/erotica is that when its initially sold.... porn costs a few pounds, art/erotica costs more! (orginally I would have said... art costs £399+ a print, porn costs a mag, but that no longer holds true) Art/erotica/porn all have one underlying point...... to get someone turned on! I dont think its possible to classify what should go into each category anymore (unless you take a simple aproach, if its in BnW then its art if colour its porn) as the likes of Tony Ward and Helmut Newton basically have done "porn" and managed to pass it off as "art," Madonna (singer) sold "soft porn" of her self as art with her book "sex" in the 80's As far as I can see its "art/erotica" if its done by someone taught in the right schools... and porn if done by everyone else or they have already got a name in the mainstream.
Interesting... points piercedJon However I totally disagree, but before I start, this is an age old discussion of what is art and what is kitsch. Personally I think it is an elitist thing, art is normally made with the backing of theory and signs which the art critic can reed from the work or reed in to it. Kitsch is for the masses it is not initially made to stimulate any thought beyond pure visual pleasure. This sounds easy enough... but the problem is that people have varying opinions on what is kitsch, some people read more in to ‘visual work' some read less. And the same can be said about erotica and porn. Normally more effort has gone in to making erotica, it is not as intermediate and it plays more on the fantasy whilst porn is more a mater of getting the camera out and getting that shoot of the dick going in to the pusy. It might seam that I'm agreeing with your statement:

But there is one minute difference those people taught at the right schools are putting thought in to their work, whilst everyone else probably is not. This is not to say that an ‘uneducated person’ can not make art or erotica, it is just saying for him to succeed he most think further then his dick. Yes the older porn has changed in value and people look at it differently. But it's significantse has more to do with what role it had in history, then the artistic quality If this did not bore you, then have a look at If you are really interested in this topic then look up what has to say on ‘Erotica’, ‘Porn’ and ‘art’ Initially I did not want this to turn in to this discussion… al I wanted was to get a list of good erotic films… but I could not keep my mouth closed.

I used to like those b/w foreign films with subtitles . french, polish ? sureal yet somehow involving ordinary subjects with rather hot sex scenes ! and allways that "will they won't they" feeling and then gosh! I never expected it would be with her grandmother ! sort of thing !
Quote by H-x Like water for chocolate, no idea who it was by or who was in it. H.x
It's by Alfonso Arau and a great film! A few other suggestions : Belle de Jour Matador A Streetcar Named Desire Midnight Cowboy The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover The Grifters Bitter Moon The Piano In the Cut Queen Margot Maitresse The Night Porter I've got lots more but supposed to be working today!
The Piano is a great film but what I found most erotic was when Sam Neill was looking through a chink in the wall at his wife with Harvey Keitel he looks down to see the palm of his hand being licked by a dog. Much as I enjoy the sight of cocks slipping into orifices there is a lot to be said for allusion too.
