Just wondering if anyone has had problems with the trojan horse virus on their pc? My friend and I have both been "infected" and the only thing we seem to have in common is that we both have regularly been on SH. It is probably just a coincidence but thought I'd ask.

Do you exchange e-mails? If so have you been forwarding others sent from a third party. This is one way into a computer. Also downloads of beautiful wooden horses can allows little Greek warriors past your fire wall.
...and no, no Greek in this PC, that I know of.
Go to , look up security stuff- they have a package that works really well of various security programes. I use windows firewall, AVG antivrus, Spybot, Lavasoft AdAware and firefox for browsing not IE - never had a virus or malware in years...
FWIW, its unlikely to be SH, you would need to download / click on a dodgy site/email/item....
this is a good site to visit regularly:-
Avast falls of the map after Bullguard, it let through to many viruses
Here is a few more antivirus programs to stay away from
Ashampoo Antivirus
BitDefender
F-Secure
F-Prot
Panda AntiVirus
PC Tool AntiVirus
Quick Heal AntiVirus
Sophos AntiVirus
Avira AntiVir
CA AntiVirus
PS: still waiting to hear about your program WooHoo
I've not had any problems with Avast, but then I'm not the best person to judge anti-virus capabilities seeing as I've only ever suffered from 2 viruses in my entire computing history! One of those was intentional (knew it would give me a virus).
I've tried AVG in the past but found it was lacking a feature that Avast has. Don't ask me what it was cause I can't remember.
I don't tend to download stuff from places that are likely to contain viruses, and my network is locked down quite tight.
IMHO it doesn't matter too much which anti-virus software you use, as long as you have a tight firewall and are sensible about your internet usage. You can have all the virus scanners in the world installed, but they'll let you down eventually if you spend your time opening unsolicited email attachments.
In edit... I have:
AVG (free)
Zonealarm (free)
Microsoft Defender (free)
Adaware (free)
Spybot Search & Destroy (free)
Hijack This (free)
I think you can see the pattern. ;-)
May cost a few bit off bucks but trust me you can't get better, for security why not?
Trust me i run a software company i know what i'm talking about.
PS. and no, we don't sell this software because we can't get a contract so no extra sales for us.
The easiest way to find a trojan on your system is to run a "FREE SYSTEM CHECK"
GUARANTEED to find most things.....funny how my other ckeckers never find them....but then, you have to purchase the ability to remove them....hmmmm
I run:
Avira (never any problems
ATF cleaner (never any...)
CCleaner {never...)
Hijackthis (never...)
But I also stopped using "free" sex sites......a sure-fire way to pick-up most annoying parasites.
I also do not open emails from anyone/thing I have not emailed in the past...even though aol has an email checker....
Oh, and i got an email from Lloydstsb this morning, saying my account was to be suspended if I did not provide them with some details..... Yeah, as if I was born yesterday....next thing I'll be replying to all those "we have 500, in a nigerian bank waiting for you dear friend" emails.....
NOD has one of the best heuristics engines available, that works real well without bombarding you with constant FPs...(False Positves)it seems even Kaspersky is starting to go down the FP road, in an effort to outdo the competition.
