If they're gathering information, they'll have lots more now - site traffic must have increased tonight - what with some quieter members becoming vocal.
We have recently collected results from over 8000 members in a British Sex Survey.
This information will be available within 2-4 weeks.
If you would like to recieve the results of this survey, please register your details on the right. (with an address & details section and submit button)

We may be quieter but we're still here!

Ok but the idea is your meeting that person for sex ... they aren't being totally honest but that doesn;t mean you don't think about and ask the question yourself.
You protect yourself by asking the question ...
People were tempted by the offer of £250 and never once questioned why the questions were being asked!
If Symbios have acted improperly then fair enough they need to be called to account but the risk of information being collated is no greater now than previously!

It's not the risk of the information being used that bothers me.
Like you said it's anonymous.
I just can't see why it can't be said upfront what the information is used for dunno

In that I quite agree ... but at the end of the day you still have a responsibility to ask the question yourself!
What did you think the questionnaire was designed for if not to get statistical information? The questions were asked in such a way that is was pretty obvious (to me at least) that it wasn't about improving the site.
edit ..... if memory serves me right I think someone did ask and the question went unanswered .... possibly kiss??

We will never use any information you give us for anything other than for administration purposes, helping you to make the most of it.

That contradicts itself, therefore what worries me is if people are willing to change the TOS to suit themselves then what else will be passed on?
and surely the benefits to the owners must have been pretty decent, as £250 was offered, would the same amount of people who completed the survey have done so, if the prize was £100?
the owners wouldnt have offered money if there wasnt something in it for them?

TBH, I can't remember the questions, but at the time I assumed they were about the site, and therefore meant to improve the site for the customers - so I would have filled it in for nothing - afterall, there WOULD have been something in it for me, as in an improved site.

but people didn't think about that as potentially there was something in it for them ;)
I know I've been obstreperous here and I do very much agree that it appears Symbios have broken T&C, but people need to take responsibility for their own actions as well.
You cannot prevent information being collected on your habits, its the nature of the web, and when you open your lives on a forum you maybe do so inadvertently, but ultimately responsibility lies within.
At least one person questioned the survey, maybe more in pm or sat at the pc, but I bet that sweetner of £250 overode people's judgement dunno and yes I did fill the questionnaire in, and no I didn't question it but I wasn't naive enough to think that Symbios were interested in my information for anything other than business.
Until Symbios answer the call who knows ....

dont hold ya breath
I think this kind of targetting by marketing is all around us. We all get junk mail through the post. This has been generated by market research companies. I think nothing of it as I chuck it in the bin.
You can be categorised and marketed through your bank and card details. The details about your internet activities are always available to anyone with the ability or authority to investigate your web trawling. Its unavoidable unless you give up the modern world.
I think we all tend to fit into fairly recognisable and usually predictable categories to anyone who is doing that kind of work. So what! So do those people.
Also, I think your identity can be recognised in the way you write in the threads. You instinctively know that it has been composed by the writer and is not a cut and paste. This is also a recognition factor that you want people to interact with.

Post and be damned dunno

Ooooo Dammie! A couple of months ago I saw the Symbios site and took screen shots (in case the info suddenly changed confused) and I was annoyed, but I didn't post the thread in the end because I thought I would be the only one to feel this way.
I talked to another member about it and eventually came to the conclusion that I should just leave it alone, but now you've posted the thread I'm all annoyed again. lol
But I'm very glad you did post.

I've highlighted the bit in bold, as that's how I feel.
I don't want to sh*t-stir at all, I just want the ambiguous answers to stop as they breed suspicion. If 'you' don't know they answer to something just say!
I know I probably shouldnt be suprised at what has possibly happened but I do feel very dissapointed sad
Thanks for your comments and the normal conspiricy theory stuff  . Here are the facts relating to the survey information wink .
Firstly everything is confidential in terms of who ticked what etc :P .
1. The Magazine survey info was used to decide if we should launch a community magazine confused: .
2. It told us the type of information that people wanted covered along with what adverts that people wanted to see  .
3. The aim here was to ensure that the content was specifically targeted toward our members to ensure it was on topic :!: .
The other survey was conducted for the following reasons.
1. We were trying to establish a few basic trends for our community these included age, Sex, etc. Before this point we had very little at all to help us understand the needs of this community as it grows.
2. The data collected has genuinely been used to raise awareness of certain topics for our members including Sexual Health as well as give us an insight as to how Swinging Clubs and sites like this help the scene.
3. This DATA has never been used externally or sold in any way shape or form.
In the right circumstances we would make some of these results public domain. But that would only ever be for the good of the community if we are being mis represented or victimised etc. I am struggling to think of any major reason to do this but again "THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN USED".
I hope that clears things up a little :?:
'kin ell! Who let you out of your box?

Martin
Many thanks for coming in and posting kiss
I know that was very much the message given when the survey was introduced, But I'm now more confused than ever
The data's never been used externally, but there is a link on the heaven network for people to get the data.
Has it never been used because you don't intend for it to be used externally or
has it never been used externally because it's not ready yet dunno

Thanks for that
What has happened is when we asked one of the guys to build that site, he has not been factually correct when he wrote the text. This happens at times as I dont get a chance to see everything that is written. That site was built around the same time as doing the first of the surveys so he probably just mis understood the instructions.
Its only a text change, I will put it on the list lol

Thanks for that Martin.
I know that although this is a business I do understand that it's a learning curve for you folks too. I think that several issues had arisen at once which only muddied the waters.
I think I'll be sending somebody's wooden spoon back to them in the post! lol
biggrin Thanks for all your help, if you ever spot anything like that just post or PM the details so we can get it sorted.
Good news, a helpful bunny here has removed the page to avoid future confusion!!
Thnaks again
Much appreciated :D
thank fook for that
thanks martin
Earthy xx
I'd like to say thanks to Dambuster actually for highlighting this issue in the first place. Issue/ non-issue / whatever..it is very apparent to me that someone noticed that something wasnt quite right and stuck their neck out for the benefit of all of us.
Now, regardless of whether it was a 'factually incorrect human error with a text mistake', see how simple things are when people are just straight with one another? Questions get answered, reassurances given, and everything is ok again.
So, thankyou Dambuster, and Martin
I spoke to dambuster on the phone earlier and he asked me to post this on his behalf (as he won't be back on line until the weekend)
"Thanks to Martin for coming in to answer the thread and to action it so quickly"
