I've just read the book about the Vagina Monologues and they are attempting to 'reclaim' the word Cunt but I'm not sure how well it will work really..

Well the gay community reclaimed the word "queer! so why not reclaim the word "cunt". To be honest - whenever I get called a Cunt I just say "thank you" . Well - it IS nice isn't it? dunno
CUNT.... i hate the word turns me right off when i am camming........allso GASH is anouther one!
No have to admit.........its between your legs that works for me mmmmmmmmmmm

Yes, I agree, Rainbows. I also found this excellent quote in Wikipedia:
"I'm a really big fan of cunt over words like pussy, and especially, vagina. The word has this great guttural sound that lets you get right into it. Pussy and vagina are really dirty words - you only ever hear really greasy men saying things like that. Cunt lets women be vulgar without being derogatory."
Calista Flockhart, at a staging of The Vagina Monologues

‘spoffle’

Well I didn't read all 4 pages of the thread, but I still don't know what it means, one that's passed me by. Elucidate svp.
Ok, wanna know what a spoffle is? Find out

So should we pronounce minger with a hard or a soft g?!
And apologies to all those who have to suffer me, I was raised by a lorry driver!

Definitly hard, always hard.

Oh I love the word 'cunt' it's so expressive and turns me on.... redface

In that case, cunt, cunt, cunt, cunt, cunt, spoffle, minge cunt.

Do the better travelled members here know of any culture where there is a socially acceptable term for the front-bottom?

Now I think that question deserves a thread all of its own, I've know people who have refered to there own as;
fairy
foof
tuppence
toot-toot (her family found the song "Don't mess with my toot toot" hillarious!)
cunt
hairy mary
man hole (sanitary pad being a man hole cover)
bits and bobs
and I'm sure there are some that I have forgotten.
It pains me when people refer to the 'front bottom' as a vagina, that is so anatomically incorrect!
Someone asked about the origin of the word minger, I thing it was MikeNorth, but I can't find it again to quote it now, here's something I found
There is a Thai phrase - "ming farang". It means foreign person smell. They think we smell funny. In fact an Irish guy I met said he had a Thai girlfriend briefly and one night she decided to wash his hair 7 times to see if it got rid of the smell. It didn't!

Maybe that's the ming part, then we get
Main Entry: minger
Function: noun
Definition: an unattractive person; a smelly or ugly person
Etymology: ming `human excrement' or `unpleasant smell' + -er
Usage: UK slang; minging, mingy adj

Oh, one more thing Vix, I haven't gotten it yet, I should get it tonight! lol

Wasn't me that asked about minger, Marmalaid, but never mind.
Don't the Scots claim "mingin'" as one of their own words? There was a lot of discussion about it the time when Graham Souness described a referee's performance as "mingin'".
Mike,
I am one of those people that swearing doesn't really suit. dunno Don't know why but I always feel a bit stupid throwing the swear words into general conversation unless I am absolutely furious about can always tell if I am mad about things when I swear. At which point I use all the expleatives I can think of, apart from cunt. I can't stand the word.
I find ads that say "Iwanna fuck your cunt til your sore" very distasteful due the language use and obvious amount of effort put in confused but the grammar and structure has taken little imagination.
"gash" "kebab" "cunt" - too crude
"front bum" - too childish
"vagina" - too clinical
"minge" - sounds like you don't wash
I would be very turned off if my partner said something along the lines of......... "can I lick your cunt?" If he replaced the word with "pussy" I'd have no problems, although if I had a cat and found him getting a little too close to it, I may be quite offended! lol
I am am bad and tend to use the word "CUNT" in an expression of my anger normally aimed either at a refree in football or someone at my place of work. But I agree with helen that cunt can be horny sometime.
I agree that vagina is to climical and I hate that word. YUCK.
I use the word minge when talking with the LADs.
womanhood is a great name for it ;)
Mike
How about 'ladygarden' biggrin

I must admit I'm one of those people who don't like the word 'cunt' and it's not something you willl hear me say EVER. Only said it once cos hubby wouldn't shag me unless I did lol
Just don't like the word that's all
Bev
xx

funny you should say this bev, i too cannot use the word, any other to describe the aformentioned, but not that one...i do really find it quite offensive. and i know quite a few other people who feel the same, but on the other hand, i know quite a few who use it constantly
I use the C word very frequently!! Yes i know i shouldnt but..
In my area it's considered not that bad a word almost everyone in my workplace uses it! Half the time i dont think they know that they are using it!
But it's not as offensive up here as it is down south.
I use cunt quite a lot - but I remember when I was first starting out having sex my girlfriend was a virgin as well and wanted to take it really slow - I was explaining something to her one night and called it "patience" because she was being so patient and thats what we call it now
Some words are used with a variety of meanings and intentions, depending on the circumstances, and can often be twisted around for humour, insult etc.
I had sex with a woman who said cunt because she didn't feel comfortable saying vagina. The thought of using a technical term just did not work for her.

It interests me why the word cunt is still so , there are some (many?) on here that are happy to use the full range of expressive verbs, but then shy away from one or two.

Are you then admitting here that you are the stupid f***cking c**t    wow Marmalaid - brave, accurate and persceptive come to mind. Good boy - thats so nice but then you are nice
Er, thanks, I think! It's always nice to know that one is nice... lovely!
I dont (often) use the word , dont know why,,it just isnt a nice word dunno Dino uses it when shouting at referee`s and Alex Furguson , or when someone scores against Man City , so he has to use it quite often rotflmao :rotflmao:
To me the word shouldnt be used, as it is a mark of disrespect.
However, i suppose its all to do with your perception of the word, and how it has been related to you ,throughout your life.
If in the past it has been percieved as a word by you, or your family, then i suppose it will continue to be .
Its probably THE worst swear word in many peoples minds, because it has been seen as a word over the years, and is generally considered extremely derogatory.
I cannot believe i'm contributing to a discussion about a swear word, i must be a bit of a cunt !!!

Apologies,
