I've been toying with the idea of a private small 'gathering' of swinging friends recently...but dont get excited cos the venue is just toooo close to home for me to do it rolleyes BUT.... the venue possibilities have raised some interesting questions in my head
Whether you're new to this, or been there and done it all lol what would be your ideal for spending one summer night with people from here?
You could suggest any of the stuff we already do (Munches, pub socials, with the optional 'back to the hotel afterward' bit thrown in..) or something different? speaking for you personally -or for yourselves if a couple - and for just one potential night (so you're not suggesting all 'events' should be like this) ..what would you do? house party? social BBQ? hot tub? some kind of social activity then back to the house? intimate dinner party? meal out? hire a function room? camping/hotel/simply come home to your own bed after?
would it be purely social just to spend time with people, or would you hope play would be involved? would you invite only people you know, or have a mix of everyone? would you advertise it (specifically in LMU) or private invite only?
to start you off, I'll give you £100 of monopoly money, a guestlist for 20 peole, guaranteed babysitters and a bottle of plonk
what would you do, given the opportunity? smile
Great question, DF.
it's not to everyones taste, I know, but Id set up my karaoke :karaoke: and give all a good go at anything they've always wanted to sing. With fancy dress, if poss - I love dressing up. lol
And afterwards - well, play it by ear wink
But with karaoke, u either love it or loathe it - i doubt Id get many takers!
what would you theme your fancy dress Cherry, if anything? where would you have it? at home? dunno
people's preferences for socialising fascinates me & we're all gonna have different ideas on this thread - interesting stuff wink
and ya never know, there might be someone else who comes along with a similar idea... who might be a possible invitee (is that a word? lol) if you were to do it for real ...
not that I'm trying to sow the seeds or owt  innocent
well my tiny house is too small - but Id hire a function room in a hotel.
the theme might be ... hmmm... something saucy...any ideas, anyone? lol
Surely Star Trek Cherrytree?
I'd like to have a BBQ in the summer.
I'd do it by private invite for the people we know well.
Starting off quite chilled out - nice food, fine wine & good conversation.
Then dancing around laughing and a giggling and onto who knows what.
I'd wouldn't label it as purely social or a play meet- just a gathering of good company and just let the evening progress naturally, whichever way that may be.
ooo good one HLB smile
would you cook? and what? dunno
cor, full of questions me lol

oh ok then, Masterchef, what would you cook up for your friends? lol
cooking for someone else/ others is quite intimate, isnt it ... or am I just quirky and see things different to others? dunno

Well I'd have to let him cook on the BarB rolleyes but I'd prepare t all.
I'd like something quite tasty:
Mussels Mariniere
Tiger Prawns with lime & coriander
Piri Piri Chicken
Rib Eye Steak
Vegetable Kebabs
Cheese stuffed jalepenos
Served with:
Herby green salad
Mushrooms
Asparagus
Roasted cherry tomatoes
Fresh Fruit Desert:
Strawberries
Raspberries
Kiwi
Mango
Melon
Passionfruit
with Greek Yoghurt and a drizzle of honey
If we're talking a smallish gathering then I'd do it by personal invite, either people we already know or people we'd like to get to know better. Definitely a houseparty/BBQ, I just wish I had a bigger yard or even a garden! Typical tight me would ask the guests to bring their favourite tipple butI'd buy in plenty of mixers and have a couple of bottles of wine and some beer in forgeneral cumsumption. Food is easy, send the tart to our local butchers for steaks, burgers chops kebabs etc and then do my usual summer bbq extras, potato salad, pesto couscous and a mixed salad.
When it gets late or too cold to be outside we'd head inside to music, general joviality and just see where the evening went from there. I wouldn't rule out any playing, but it wouldn't be expected at all.
I love summer parties
Food ,wine , and chatting lol
Oh and some get carpet burns later on in the evening!!

This would be our perfect scenario too.

Thats the kind of thing I would suggest as well...
we often do this during the summer with our caravan....
We eat and gather, possibly around a camp fire and drink, sing and tell bad jokes all night...
Its great fun with the right company..

Would you like karaoke with that? :giggle:
I think the way Celestria has said it would be best. If there is no expectation of play, then there is no disappointment or problems. If the evening goes well, and the general consensus is there then......who knows?

The friends we have our little get togethers with arent swingers so its purely social and works a treat biggrin
i think a smaller place like a pub with a small gathering of people off here i most want to meet and chat to in a comfy less noisey atmosphere
then again im a quiet sort so wouldnt say a lot but would enjoy listening all the same

That's a very good question, DF
If you're toying with the idea of a venue, would 20 be too small a number?
Perhaps that number of people sounds like a house party - OK it depends on the size of the house lol

We, too, would go with the personal invites, as above.
We couldn't do a barbeque - just no room at all for that.
But we could probably squeeze 20 in to our house

Ooooooh karaoke biggrin :karaoke: Now, unaccustomed as we are to karaoke, we'd give it a go
But, seriously, if everyone is aware that the party is just for socialising, drinking, eating, then if any playing does happen then that is a bonus.
It should never be expected that playing will happen.
Having a laugh, and a good company, always makes for a great evening
Karaoke?
The only aspect of Japanese culture I :scared: at sometimes
However, I have heard a few decent voices in the community biggrin

Yip sounds perfect - could have done with one last night as was in the mood for a nice st patricks day sing along, but woke up to late to organise sad
I'd hire a barge on the canal.........invite some good friends.........we'd all dress up as pirates, before going off along the canal and then mooring up for the night somewhere where we could have a BBQ and campfire.....and just sit out all night enjoying good company and the night time air. lol
Personally i still enjoy gatherings on the beach....friends, talking, music and fires in barrels....paradise

ooo god no, I just used that as a random number to start people off with this idea  ...up the numbers for a function room doo, lower them for a house party perhaps?
anyway, I love summer BBQ type parties too but my place just isnt fit to invite folk round so I'm looking at 'alternatives' wink
My worst nightmare type scenario though is to be invited to a 'social gathering' only to find its not quite as social as I thought (maybe mistakenly) so 'house parties' in any guise tend not to be my thing ...unless, as others have said, its private invite only and I know the people coming. That said, I've been caught off guard with that before so my method isnt foolproof! The other alternative is to hold a 'gathering' myself smile
