As the other thread was getting rather old and busy, i've started two new threads for chat issues.
This thread is not for disconnection or connection issues, or for general moaning about the chat.
For connection / disconnection issues please go here: http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/336864.html
Please be specific and precise about the issue you're having. Please include your browser type (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome) and version number when you report.
Thanks.

Hi
About 2 days ago it worked but now only getting the log in page - sign in and getting this message
Please wait while we connect you to the chat service...
the message above then turns into a blank black square/rectangle
Any ideas
Alan

Again can you provide the browser and operating system info...??
I am using Firefox on windows xp - xp is up to date with MS updates etc
Does that help
Alan
Hi Alan,
I've just tested your account and managed to log in ok, so now we need to concentrate on your computer / browser settings as its an obviously an issue there. I'll be dropping you a PM in a moment.
Hi All,
We've just rolled out a new update which we hope is going to stabilize and speed up the chat for everyone. I do believe there are a minority of users that still have problems gaining access at all. If this is you, please post here, and include a description of how far it gets, what you see, and what messages are displayed. We will investigate and help each person in turn.
Please do not use this thread for anything else other than connection issues.
Edit: I've just removed about 8 replies because they are off topic, please guys and girls keep this to connection issues only, there's another thread and a support centre to report other bugs.
Thanks,
Elliot
Apologies for the downtime that update took a little longer than expected. The chat is now back and fully working.
Thanks,
Elliot
There were speed issues in the chat last night, we're hoping to have this resolved today so tonight it should run perfectly.
Slow loading cameras are now also fixed, any user experiencing slow cameras after reading this please do drop me a PM.
The Desktop Chat is currently unavailable, it will be back once we've sorted most of the connection issues.
Thanks
Elliot
Hi Guys,
Little update, we hope we've fixed the majority of disconnection issues now but the side effect last night was that it went slow during peak times. We're working on this today so it should be much better for everyone tonight.
We've also just this minute fixed an issue which was causing slow camera connections for some users, so now the cameras should be nice and fast for everyone.
With regards to the Desktop Chat, this is currently unavailable, it will be back once we've sorted most of the connection issues.
Thanks
Elliot
Hey,
Yes indeed it was, so far so good i think so fingers crossed this has sorted out a lot of the issues.
Elliot
New update guys to hopefully help the disconnection issue, give it a go and let me know!
We've made a significant change to hopefully cut down / stop the disconnection issue. If you're still having frequent disconnections after you read this, please do let me know via PM.
Thanks,
Elliot
That's quite strange, could you try another browser for me, just to rule that out.

Here's one I couldn't see on the list of known bugs.
Typing in main chatroom when I had an unread whisper tab in yellow.
when i clicked on an emoticon, it did not appear on my text that was in the main room.
when i eventually clicked on the whisper tab, there were the 8 or 9 emoticons cos I kept hitting the same one wondering why it wasn't appearing.
So, if you have an unviewed whisper, you can't use emoticons.
Or at least I can't in this session.

Added to the bug tracker!

go to log in to new chat through google chrome and i keep getting this link
This is the default page that is distributed with nginx on EPEL. It is located in /usr/share/nginx/html.
You should now put your content in a location of your choice and edit the root configuration directive in the nginx configuration file /etc/nginx/
does anyone now what to do with it or get rid ?

Hi,
Can you clear chromes temporary files / cache and try again. If this doesn't work, put in a support ticket and we'll take a look at whats going on.
Elliot
Lost - no worries smile
Dex - At this point i'll hand it off to the moderators to deal the situation as they see fit. I am of course here to discuss all things related to chat, but i'm afraid i retain my ethical debates of forum activities for pub time over a cool pint of San Miguel :)
Lost,
Thanks for that, i understand exactly where you're coming from. We've tried to simplify the new layout further than the old one while also adding features. Its a difficult task with an application that has that much going on.
One of the new advantages of this chat is that we have the ability to 'skin' it quite easily, i'm already in the process of planning an 'accessibility' skin, for users with colour blindness, and probably a 'simplicity' skin, which will be the bare essentials, which will further resemble the old chat.
I'll log your comments down for discussion with my 'higher ups' with regards to the general look of the chat. One things for sure the 'eye' is coming back also, we've just not managed to implement it yet smile
Dex,
The 0870 is flat rate, not premium, its just a 'preferred' number.
With regards to the moving of posts, regardless of whether it contravened the T&C's or not, its our prerogative if we wish, or a moderator wishes to move the post. Regardless of whether you request it not to me moved or not.
With regards to the chatroom, if the old chatrooms are a 'barren wasteland', then the new chatroom must be doing something right, as people will be in that one instead. The disconnection issue is now 75% resolved we believe. Please do feel free to try it again and see how you get on, if not, report back to us and we can investigate further. We're in the process of putting together a way of reporting the disconnection issues automatically so we can investigate each one on a case by case basis in order to gain a better idea of the situation.
The issue is that with internet applications, there are many variables, the users computer, the software, the web browser, the security settings, the internet connection, the route to the servers, and their account on the site. We can profile, test and debug over and over offline, but we can never replicate real world scenarios exactly.
Finally, regardless of how you feel that it affects the members of SH on how your posts being moved, again its our prerogative to move threads and posts as we fit, and how we and the moderators feel its best to manage the moderators wish to run the forum. We are not trying to hide the fact there are issues with the chat, we're actively trying to work with people to resolve the issues in the quickest time possible.

When having the option to go between servers(or whatever they're called) 1,2&3 you could bring up the room list for that specific server. Now all rooms are in one place the list is f*cking endless. It was bad enough on server one with 4o0+ bi rooms now add all those to the main rooms and all the other rooms the list is mind bogglingly long. Once easy to digest bite sized pieces are now lumped together into a mound of indigestible Gristle.
This is SH's equivalent to Microsoft's Vista superceding XP...Nice idea but not so usable. still dont know why all this new technology could not of been rolled out under the previous, unchallenged by any other chat room style on the web, design. surely thats not rocket science. all of the good things that are new could of been placed into the same design layout.

Hi,
We've taken the comments on board about the room list, we do have plans for filters, search, and other bits for the room list to come.
With regards to the MS vista from XP analogy, it's actually quite the opposite. This chatroom has been built from the ground up on a different platform which is built for reliability, robustness, scalability and improvability. None of which we had on the old chat.
The backend/server side of the chat is actually the same technology that Facebook Chat, Google Chat, and other large scale chat deployments use, which serves millions of users daily.
The issue we have is teething problems, just because its unreliable at the minute, doesn't mean its going to stay that way. We're working to identify and resolve the issues constantly at the moment.
With regards to usability and layout, its general layout is based on, and almost identical to the current chat. I'm intrigued to see what people think has changed so much? A few people have mentioned the view profile button, but the difference for me is trivial:
Old method:
Click on user, click on 'View Profile' button at the bottom of the chat.
New Method:
Click on user, click the view profile button under their name.
Is it that different?
Thanks,
Elliot

Nothing has been deleted, they have been merged into one thread.
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/316764.html
and this is where this thread is going.

As a PAYING member I do not want my post merging into one thread.. this is just a way to stop what S.H. KNOW would be post after post after post of unhappy members. If I had wanted to place a post in a known thread I would have entered it there myself.
Sarah, is it you who has moved my post? I am writing in complaint about this matter, which I find more worrying than the chat room problem itself. It is not your right to decide where members can and cannot post their justified complaints. The fact that you are hiding these threads away inside one post is unethical, and is causing a wave of concern among some members.
I will be redoing my post and I formally request that it is NOT removed to a generic thread. I have a right as a paying member to post on these forums. I am not writing anything that would breach the T&C's so you cannot justly decide what I can or cannot post in MY OWN THREAD.
If it is moved again I will bite the bullet and telephone the company on their 0870 number to put a formal complaint in before I write my letter of complaint, and I will be naming you as the person carrying out these unethical practices.
If the post IS moved again I think it will be plain to all members that the company is doing it's utmost to stop it's members from INDIVIDUALLY posting their complaints IN THEIR OWN THREAD, to hide the scale of members unhappiness.
Peace
Dex
Hi Dex,
As per the AUP and the T&C's, it is entirely our choice and that of the moderators as to how we moderate the forum. Would you go into Tesco and demand the microwave meals be put on isle 6 instead of isle 3 and expect it to be done? And just to cement this, i'll quote from the T&C's
3.5 We may terminate or suspend your use of the Service at any time if you are found in breach of any of these terms. The Service is moderated by Moderators, chatroom operators. Moderators, operators and admin may modify, adapt or delete any postings made to any area of the Service.

If you would like to discuss the new chatroom please do, in this thread, or any of the other related threads that are already open.
Hi Dex,
There are several reasons we merge threads, the main one of which is to keep the useful information in one place and so we can reply in one place. I don't have the time to sit there replying to each individual thread, especially as my time should be fixing the chatroom.
Our company name, address and phone number are, and have been in the T&C's for years, we don't hide who we are, and don't attempt to make it difficult to contact us.
Any members who have a complaint can make it via the Help Centre, this then goes straight to the correct department, and will be dealt with accordingly.
I'm a little confused as to why you're so irate about the chatroom. As I've said many of times in the last 72 hours the old chatroom is still available, and has always been for those members who prefer it. We've taken nothing away from the usability of the site, and welcome all members to use whichever chatroom they prefer.
If you have any specific questions for me, I'm more than happy to answer them (providing i've not already covered them in my Q&A thread).
Edit: Further to this if you'd like to speak in person, you can get hold of me on the above number during office hours, if you want to go through the situation over the phone i'm more than happy to do so.
Elliot
Hi there,
You can view my Q&A thread along with updates here, which answers the majority of questions raised:
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/332254.html
I'll be keeping this updated as soon as we have announcements so its the best place to keep up to date.
This is also linked from the chatroom page itself, so all members are kept fully up to date with the progress of the new chat.
I'll also add onto this, that the old chat has been available 100% of the time to everyone in its entirety, so rather than losing service, you've actually gained an additional chatroom, which is compeltly your choice to use smile
I'll lock this thread now, as its best to keep the discussion in one place. There area already several threads on this topic, one already in full swing here: http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/334704.html
We believe we've fixed most of the disconnection issues, however it still may be affecting a number of users, which we're investigating further.
Meanwhile, we have place the old chat more visible on the chatroom page on the button to the left, so you can still gain easy access to the old chatrooms.
HI all,
There have been a couple of issues tonight, but we hope we've found a fix for most people. Please give it a go again, and see if its any better. Make sure you close the chat fully, then open it again to get the latest version.
Thanks,
Elliot

Hi
I've just tried to open the Desktop chat for the first time in about 3 days. It wanted downloaded a new version but this failed to install with the message:
There was an error downloading the update. Error# 16824
Windows 7 Prof, 64 bit.

Please uninstall the old (beta) version first from Add/Remove programs. It should then install ok
I've seen quite a few posts regarding the lack of testing on the chat, the reason we don't have 3 servers, and the old saying if its not broke don't fix it. Rather than reply to the countless posts and pm's i've had individually, i'll put this here so everyone can see.
Lack of testing:
The new chat has been one of the most rigorously tested features on the site. We've been testing it behind the scenes for the last 6 months, and its been available as a beta on the site for over a month. In the office we've spent many hours performing simulated load tests to test the stability, and we we're hoping that by putting it on the site as beta, a few more people would use it, sadly I don't think we ever saw it get over around 40 users while in beta, meaning a decent scale real world test just wasn't happening. Further more we've tested it on another site. We have had teething issues with this one in the last 24 hours which I openly admit too, however I would hope everyone has a little more patience to wait for one day while we fix any issues that arrise.
Put 3 servers in, it worked with 3!
The chat actually runs on around 6 servers behind the scenes now. The difference is the user list automatically combines these rooms into one list – just because you don't see 3 servers, doesn't mean they don't exist.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
A wise friend once told me, if everyone had that mentality, we'd still be sitting in caves with our sticks eating dinosaurs. The truth is the old chatroom was very 'broke', it was unmanageable, unmaintainable, and unimprovable. I've got no doubt we've delivered one of the best chat applications on the internet today, and we will continue to improve on it in the months and years to come.
Hi Guys and Gals,
Please see FAQ thread here:
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/332254.html
For latest updates as and when they happen.
Thanks.
Update,
The 'Invalid Call Back Request' / 'Blank Screen' bug has been fixed. Apologies to users who was seeing this. If you still are seeing this bug, please place a new support request in the Help Centre letting us know.
We've upgraded the servers behind the scenes which should hopefully stabilise the chat during peak times.
We're still investigation disconnection issues.
Thanks.
Hi,
The new chat and site messenger have been down since last night, we've identified the cause of this issue this morning and we're currently in the process of fixing the issue now, and preventing it from happening again.
Apologies for the downtime.
Thanks,
Elliot
Please read below, and more posts down the thread for updates as and when they happen.
We plan to have the new chatroom out of 'beta' and in full use within the next week. I thought it best we start an FAQ as I see the same questions coming up when unsuspecting users join the new chat without realising.
So, FAQ's below. If you have other questions regarding the chat, drop me a PM, and i'll add them to this list.
Q: Where are the 3 chat servers in the new chat?
A: The new chat transparently balances itself across many servers behind the scenes, as a user you don't need to worry about this. Therefore, the chat will be one big chatroom with everyone in it.
Q: What's happening to the old chatroom?
A: The old chatroom will remain until the end of the month, after which it will be removed.
Q: Why change it?
A: The current chatroom has many flaws, both in front and behind the scenes. The new chatroom brings many advantages over the old one, such as reliability, scalability and manageability. However the most important one is development speed - with the new chatroom we can quickly and easily fix bugs, add features, meaning the new chat is only going to get better and better. One of the most popular new features is the increased video camera quality.
Q: Where is the old chat?!?
A: It's where it has always been. Click the big 'Enter Chatroom' button, you might need to scroll down a bit if you can't see it.
Q: Are there any changes to the T&C's or AUP with this new Chatroom?
A: No, these remain exactly the same.
Q: I'm an Extra's Member, Why is there no 'Extras Lounge'?
A: The extras lounge can now be found inside the 'Room List' in the chatroom itself, not on the main chatroom page.
Q: Is there going to be an i-phone or android app for chat?
A: The new chat does already work on both iPhone and Android phones. You can even view cameras on the Android (as it supports Flash, which is required to view the video). We will be working on a specific phone layout for the chat, which will work much better on small touch screens and be easier to use. You should see this in a few months.
Q: I have an Apple Mac, will I be able to view cams in the new room?
A: The new chat will fully work across a variety of platforms, including Mac OSX.
Q: How do I find an Op with no Home of the Chatrrom Ops now?
A: OPs can usually be found in any of the busy lobby rooms. In future versions of the chat we will have a 'report abuse' and 'page an op' feature.
In preparation for the launch of the new chat, I've moved the join buttons around on the page in order to encourage some more use. We'd like people to slowly get used to it rather than having it forced on them in one go. At most there is probably a week left before we make the full switchover, so hopefully we can get some action in there this week.
The old chatroom will remain available just underneath for anyone who wishes to use it.
tradsweet - thanks for the bug report, this is a known issue and will be addressed shortly after launch.
Thanks,
Elliot
HI Guys and Gals,
Just a short update on the chat. Lee's been working hard here for the last couple of weeks finalising some bits on the chat (stuff you won't see but is needed). We're also working on a hardware upgrade for the whole of SH before this goes in (hence the downtime periods recently).
Once the above is completed, and we've done a little bit more load testing, the chat will come out of beta and come fully live. Timescale its going to be at least 1 week away, but more than likely closer to two weeks if we find no further issues. This however could extend further should further things need to be addressed, but I think this is quite unlikely as its had extensive testing already.
The beta chat is still available and usable for everyone to use, although no one seems to be - I don't know why because its much better! This thread will stay open for further discussion if needed.
Thanks to everyone who has tested, given us input, and helped so far. Hopefully we can all enjoy it in the very near future.
Elliot
The chat is now open to all premium members for testing.
