Although the message says site maintenance, it was not actually maintenance. That is just a default message that appears when the shit hits the fan

Just a quick update as to what happend earlier.
The company that houses our servers very kindly decided to take one of the database servers down without checking with us first - this left the site to run on a single database server, which it simply won't.
When the database servers are taken down, due to the size of the data (theres a lot of forum posts!) it takes around 2-3 hours per database server to sync them up again, we had to do two, so downtime was around the 5 hour mark.
Given the choice we would normally do any changes in the early hours of the morning, sadly our hand was forced today so we had no choice.
We are now looking at different solutions to the current setup to provide more stability and speed. We will get it right soon... promise

Just a quick one to let everyone know we are doing everything we can to get the site speed sorted asap.
We successfully bought the 3rd database server online Friday ahead of the weekend rush. The site was good speed over the Friday, until Database server 2 went down sometime over Saturday/Sunday. It is still offline at the moment, hence the speed of the site is somewhat slower than normal.
We have major hardware upgrades coming in over the next few days, we aim to get these done with no downtime to the site if we can help it. There will be a small maintenance window while we make some backend changes, but this will be quite brief (around 15 mins).
The hardware upgrades (for those who it makes sense to!) is a 4th database server added, all database servers double memory capacity, and the network upgrading to gigE (10 times its current capacity).
We hope this will resolve all of the speed issues we are currently having, and provide a much more stable platform.
Expect all of this done within the next few days, so please bear with the site speed for a couple more days, fingers crossed we will have it sorted soon.

For security reasons we disabled html in profiles - it was actualy never meant to be there in the first place, it was an error on our part for not stripping out html - its a big security risk

As some of you may or may not know, last week (after 3 attempts!) we put our new database server cluster live, this brings SH to a new level of performance, with plenty of headroom in database capacity, the site now will run like lightning. SH is now hosted across 9 of the latest, top of the range servers.
Sometime this week we will be introducing the second phase of Swinging Heaven. This new version has a large amount of additions and upgrades, its 4 months in the making, and will provide everyone with a better user experience of SH.
First up is the whole look and feel of the “My†pages. All of the pages have been re-arranged and tidied up to make them look and perform much better.
1) My Homepage – this page holds much more info about your account and things relevant to you. There are stats to tell you where people are on the site, the new mails you have, and who has been interested in you. Also on this page is the wink management, winks are quick and friendly messages you can send to a user you are interested in with the click of a button.
2) My Settings – Allowing you to control all aspects of your account, including your username, email address and privacy options.
3) My Profile – The new centre for managing your profile, includes a new profile text option – allowing you to write about yourself for people to read on your profile. With this comes the new profile page, much nicer looking, better layout.
4) My Adverts – Same as before, but much nicer and easier to use.
5) My Photos – Allowing you to upload a pic via your PC or your Mobile phone, new clear layout and easy to follow instructions.
6) My Videos – Now you can record videos from your webcam directly to the site! Simply hit the add video page, hit record and your away. Your video will then appear on your profile.
7) My Friends – Better looking and easier to add friends.
8) My Private Gallery – New design and much nicer layout makes managing your private gallery a lot easier.
9) My Mobile – Register your mobile on the site so you can txt pics from your mobile straight to your SH account – perfect for those who don’t have a digital camera. We still do, and will always a 100% no spam policy, you have to register your number with the site for security, so no one else can send their pics to your account! Your number will only be used for this, and this only.
10) My Search – back with a vengeance, much faster and much more accurate, My Search allows you to search members based on any aspect of their profiles!
All of the above is completely free to current members, and is a testament to our commitment to keep developing this site to make it the best it can be. That said, the amount of effort, man hours, and servers needed to keep the site running, maintained and constantly improved isn’t cheap.
