BTW is the server clock wrong (by about 10 mins?)

Yes. It was all shunted over to a new server, but they brought the old clock for posterity. :lol2:
Drumroll... fanfare... slightly stained red carpet...

Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advice really. As some of you know, I'm new to this site and still proceeding with caution as I'm really nervous.
Had a guy add me to his msn contacts, I don't even know him, is this normal for people to do this without even getting to know you first? Really took me by suprise. Have now taken my msn details off so it don't happen again.
Sorry for sounding so wet, but actually posting and saying hello was a huge step for me and I'm just feeling really nervous again now.
Cheers, Donuts

It is customary to ask before adding someone, but there will always be those who ignore netiquette. When they do you have the option to either add them to your contact list or not add them and block them. If you block them, they will never see you online and won't be able to message you.

What blue said....
.....although the fact I am lucky and have a high metabolism and can never put on weight makes it easy to say!

Make the most of it while you can... I was like that and then one day my body said "Right you bastard, I've been very patient but you've abused me for 35 years... now you PAY!" :lol2:

Someone said this site is immoral.
Is it or do we just have different morals to the mundanes?

Taking the word mundane literally, I think you'll find most people here are very down to Earth.
As for morals, I think the great majority of SH members have a far stricter code governing their behaviour than outsiders would presume. We don't, for example, deliberately deceive and hurt each other, which many of those who judge from a position of ignorance would not be able to say of themselves.
People may express disapproval of some of our lifestyle choices while keeping quiet about their own, but the moral core on which those choices are built is something I'm far more confident of in this community than anywhere else.

If it does just place your foot on a chair, slide your dress up your leg slowly, expose the offending clips. then say "Could it be these turning your machine on" Watch their reactions and use it as foreplay!

Particularly effective if you're 6 foot 6 and your name is Eric. biggrin

Maybe the 30,000 member might be the first one to start paying to use the site! lol

Wouldn't it just tickle your arse to death if he worked for a ringtone company?

Or should we quit worrying about it and stick to the default font?

Put your big stick away dear, the search button is my friend and there are definitely no threads about font preferences. I feel it's important we all know where we stand on this issue. ;)

Surely it's not the size of the font that's important, but the way you use the words?
cool
So they say... and anyway, people with really small fonts can still do other things with their smilies :P
Or should we quit worrying about it and stick to the default font?

PS I'm going to try it out on Kitty next weekend.
innocent :whistling:

You gonna cook for her too?
I'm cooking lunch for my guests today... it was a bit of a struggle to finally arrive at something they both like but we got there. Trouble is, I've been in the garden and try as I might I just can't find any toads. I wonder if they'd like a frog-in-the-hole?
(Come to think of it, she probably would... such is the quality of the company I keep these days. lol )
Sod it, I'll do jacket potatoes with sombreros on and call it El Spudo-U-Like

Wheres the delete and rejoin button confused

So your new username will be "Fog on the Tyne" then. biggrin
OK it's not funny, but at silly o'clock after a long hard day it's the best I can do ;)
My crystal ball tells me it will be a single person who is 22 and has a penis attached. This person will expect immediately to hear the sound of knickers falling to the floor all over the country on the basis of this information alone.
Then he'll bugger off because despite his saint-like patience all the silly women turned out to be frigid having not shagged him on day one.

New member here from Warwickshire..... hello to all lol
Like many sites , am I going to end up finding that there are a handful of girls and 20 million guys ????
Answers on a post card...... or on here.... or even in a nice welcoming PM if you are one of the girls sifting through the 20 million wink

Among the active members the ratio is much more sensible. Most single guys sign up, look around and bugger off, some make asses of themselves then bugger off, some put a few uninformative meetup posts in LMU then bugger off, and a few take the time to stick around, get to know people, figure out what the comm is all about and join the family.
Anyway, if there is a plethora of excess single males, be grateful because it gives excellent chaps such as yourself an opportunity to stand out from the crowd. smile

And all the single males leave. And then......?

And then Angel never ever gets a shag again   :upset:
Quick then, shag before I'm banished to the underclass. ;)
Seriously though, and this is extremely important... an essential aspect of the basic philosophy on which this community was founded, is the determination that nobody will ever be discriminated against on grounds of race, gender, or sexual preference.
Take that away and you kill the very spirit of SH.

Martin & Elliot,
The mischevious part of me is thinking that if you want to make money from the site, why not charge the single guys to access the photo ads and give free premium membership to everyone else.
This is an unpopular thing to say, but it might help sort out some of the imbalances in who uses the photo ads part of the site. At the moment there are a LOT of single guys, compared to the number of couples/single females advertising for them.
Oh, do we get an invite to the Symbios Xmas party. wink

So the people advertising for single males are spoilt for choice and you want to penalise the single males for that? And all the single males leave. And then......?

I remember this place when it were just fields.....

February 2005?
Naaaaah. . by then we had a dry stone wall AND a tractor!
Humblest apologies folks, for various reasons, including copyright issues and a hiccup with our regular supplier of badge holders, I'm having to start from scratch with a new design. The familiar "Munch Bunch" badge is, at least for the time being, unusable.
You will all get your names and avatar pictures printed on your badges as promised, but I'm afraid I won't have time to do any of the usual special requests for Munch Virgins, Munch Whores, people with birthdays, anniversaries etc. Could I therefore ask you please not to PM me with any more "non-standard" requests?
I expect this to be a temporary setback and I hope normal service will be resumed by the time we get to Wigwam. smile
Thanks,
Ice

Calling shocked people "bad apples" and hinting at blanket bans isn't going to win you the support of too many people, and while you may not think we're that important in the grand scheme of things, we are a community.
Just think of yourself as a developer who suddenly arrives in a village and tells the inhabitants that he's about to change everything. You may think that your improvements are for the good of the village, but the villagers have lived there for a long time and they like things as they are. Most will kick up a fuss in the fist instance, but given time and good explanations, chances are they'll come round to the idea. If not, they'll probably move out of their own accord. Threatening evictions to those who complain is not really the way to get the rest of the village onside is it?

Angel hunny, I love you

Our primary business is the sale of ringtones.

Congratulations. And that qualifies you to run our website how exactly? rolleyes
I have just a few questions (to begin with), mainly about your suitability to declare yourself fit to breeze in out of nowhere and put yourself in charge:
1. What interest does the new owner have in the SH Community?
2. Does the new owner know anything about or care anything about the SH Community?
3. Does the new owner expect the volunteer mods, ops, and other people working for the Community voluntarily behind the scenes to carry on doing so while a commercial concern benefits from that work?
4. How does the transfer of ownership to a commercial entity affect the Page One promise that Swinging Heaven will "NEVER" be a paysite?
5. Will the new owners expect to be paid royalties for the use of SH logos on Munch badges and tie pins, or will they regard it as free advertising?
6. How will the new owner, being apparently unfamiliar with the Community, know which group gatherings to sanction as site meets and which to regard as private parties?
7. Will the new owner respond to site-related communications addressed to the previous Administrator, or do I have to write the whole flucking lot out again?
8. To what extent has the previous Administrator's departure been influenced by the aggressive behaviour of certain members of a copycat/breakaway site, and how does the new owner propose to prevent further disruption from that source?
9. Is the new owner aware that the people who work so hard to keep SH alive and free do so out of love for the Community and loyalty to the founder? How does the new owner propose to inherit that loyalty? Has the new owner broken bread with anyone here? Does the new owner even remotely know anyone here?
10. Who are you? What is the name of your company? Is it familiar to Watchdog viewers? Why the big secret?
Just a word of warning to those of you whose kids have their own mobile phones. My sister has just been raging on the phone:
Maybe this is common knowledge, I wouldn't know since I don't use these kinds of services, but it seems there are companies basically scamming kids with offers of free ringtones that are anything but free.
Their ads are deceptively worded so that kids order what they think is one free ringtone but in fact they are also agreeing to an indefinite subsequent daily supply of ringtones, for which they are charged each time one is sent. My nephew has run up a £150 bill without realising it, which of course his mother has to pay. She did some digging and it turns out that one of the companies also operates a "free" adult contact scam, whereby you pay premium rate to call a voicemail box and speak to an advertiser who doesn't exist. They get away with calling it free because you're only paying for the phone call, not the contact information. Apparently the scammers are turning to fake voice ads as an alternative source of income because people are getting wise to the ringtone rip-off.
